Only HoboKa voted.  AxLR wins by default, because reasons.  Lmao.  AxLR please PM me the source pick for round 116.

With 3 entries, this could've been a good round, unfortunately, Silverpool64 had to submit as a BONUS.  It's a shame only I voted.  Participant votes are awash in a 2 entry round.  But I'm fine with handing off the source pick to AxLR, because I think he's earned it.

It's not a problem at all, I mean the compo is still fair and balanced, with or without you competing so I don't see the problem with that.

As long as voters are mature and don't bias their vote because you're the organizer, and I sincerely do believe they won't, there's no point in putting you away from the fun

    hoboka,
I voted for the first option (Limit source picks to the pre-2007 era), simply because this is MnP so it's more about production. It's way harder to make better productions of more-recent VGM while staying true to the source.
I wouldn't mind if you limited picks to more popular franchises too. I don't really care on that one either way. You know the data on how much interest each type of source has gotten recently way better than I do.

Sorry i didn't get a chance to submit, but one i've been busy as hell, and two, the source looks a little too complicated for me, to MnP lol.
If voting's available, i can get some thoughts down yes?

WARNING THIS IS LONG. HOPE YOU DON'T MIND READING.
I don't feel we should be cherry picking the obvious and here's why.
    On OCR:
For Final Fantasy, there is about 56 albums dedicated to the franchise.
About 24 albums dedicated to the Legend of Zelda franchise.
About 39 albums dedicated to the Mario franchise.
174 albums dedicated to Mega Man. 174! That's an insane amount.
    22 albums dedicated to Sonic.
100 albums for Metal Gear. Think about it, 100 albums to this franchise.
All of these are the popular franchises, and showcases how much dedication people have for it.
Now on OCR, dedicated to the lesser known games there are:
For the contra series there is 1 album, and it's not even dedicated to Contra.
No albums dedicated to Streets of Rage, but sources from the franchise have appeared on other albums, but only as single sources, not an entire album dedicated.
No albums dedicated to the Bioshock franchise.
No albums for Jet Set Radio
And certainty no albums, dedicated to Ridge Racer, despite it being one of the top racing franchises.
I picked albums, because for me, these are the deciding factors to how much people care about the franchise, or remix it etc....
Each result might not be a straight cover of a games soundtrack, but a lot of songs, will make an appearance on an album, based on a game so...
    What does this mean?
Well Final Fantasy gets love for 2 reasons. First is nostalgia, and second is recognition. Because the games have circulated so much through the years, nobody can escape the wave of Final Fantasy mania.
Is that a bad thing? No it's not, but it does mean that a lot of unknown, or even well known franchises, are lost, because they don't follow the Final Fantasy or Mega Man style of popularity. People will probably know Ridge Racer if you mention it to them, but they probably won't have the energy to remix the score, or remember much of the score (Apart from the loud obnoxious announcer, which is really what folks remember the game for) This is because, the it doesn't follow the melodic approach, but rather the arrangement.
Final Fantasy, Mario, Mega Man, or even Chrono Trigger are remembered mostly for the melody. Ridge Racer (OST) for me, is remembered through the awesome usages of samples. I only discovered that the babbling in ...Dat Dan Day...A is a sped up popular 90's vocal snippet. It impressed me, because of how it was used. Only me, TheVideoGamer would know that. To others, they probably won't be as bothered (Even those, who love the soundtrack).
Now i mention this, in that Final Fantasy, Mega Man, all have there time devoted to the soundtracks (To where, it's inescapable). Now i love these soundtracks a lot, and i hold them dearly to my heart, however due to it's extreme surge in popularity, i've lost contact, because it overshadows the lesser known, and to some, more impressive scores. Mario is one hell of a nostalgic trip, but if the franchise had just been launched this year, or even today, would it be nostalgic, or have waves of fans praising it's score? Well in my mind, i assume not, but to others, maybe so. This reasoning alone is why i like picking obscure scores, to games, because they just need the love.
Because of competitions like PRC, i've pretty much introduced at least 4-5 people to Vatlva, a game nobody knows about, tagged to a composer, everyone loves (Not enough love as Nobuo Uematsu, but devoted fans nonetheless). Probably one person out of that group, will probably check the OST, and the rest will now appreciate the process into making the score, even if it's not your thing. That's the reason i like PRC and MnP.
If i stuck with Mario, yes it's awesome, yes it needs it's legacy, but because of how much has been put into remixing the franchise, it's the same old, same old. If you want to do it, go ahead. I'll still be there to remix away, BUT the beauty of competitions like this, is the freedom to pick unknown sources, that people can at least attempt, regardless of how much they know or like it.
Which is why,  i think we should allow people to both, go with franchises, they hold personally to them, and also pick franchises with soundtracks, that more people need to know about.
Thanks for coming to my *holy f*ck this is long* TED Talk.
Long story short, for those who can't be bothered reading my essay.
LESSER KNOWN SOUNDTRACKS NEED THE LOVE TOO, THIS IS WHY I SIGNED UP FOR THESE AMAZING COMPO'S.
(I feel like writing in caps, makes me sound like an asshole lol, but anyways....)

I'm asking for clarification, this means that you will no longer be accepting sources from console systems released after the above, such as the Xbox360 and Wii, correct?

I'm a little disappointed with this change, but I agree that some newer soundtracks can be intimidating and hard to work with in MnP. For what it's worth, I support your decision and I hope it brings more participants!
BTW I'm working on my bonus and I hope to have it done by the deadline.

    Pardon over 9000 edits...
Yes...I'm aware, that a lot of the core participants being gone, it probably doesn't matter which move I take, but I feel compelled to do something.
So when I did the homework, I realized that MnP has been suffering a similar drought as PRC since 2018.  And participation seemed to peak at an average of 2-3 a round, if lucky, minus a few rounds.
Bundeslang and I lost about 5-6 stalwart regulars and a bevy of part-time participants that don't show any more.  Life is, right?  Anyways...I wasn't rattled before (overmuch), but when Bundeslang was bandying the idea of putting his sword up and calling it quits by 2021, it sort of got the wheels turning in my head.  MnP has been dying too; it's getting harder to be so gung-ho about it.  So I decided to work on some 'solutions'...that will probably backfire, but DAMNIT, I'm gonna do them anyways!!  So here goes!!
Cut off Console Era Source Picks beyond the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube eras.  There hasn't been any real interest in IP's beyond that cutoff: with the exception of a Mass Effect 2, Dark Souls and a Nier round (to which Brandon Strader was a major factor for...god I miss that madman lol)  Furthermore, someone pointed out to me in a PM, that very modern soundtracks can be intimidating for those with mediocre libraries and the MnP model of "conservative approach" kind of...kneecaps whatever flexibility might have remained.  Something I should have considered on the onset. Ban 'Obscure' Franchises.  This could wind up hurting PRC, so I'd have to be play this one by ear and see how PRC participation is affected.

Cool!  Are you comfortable with me competing too?  I can make my entry a BONUS if you think it's weird.  Poll 2 is gonna address this question...finally.  Shouldn't have let it be a grey area for so long.

TheVideoGamer reacted to HoboKa in MnP Poll 1
Well.  I did call this Poll 1.  I might add that "leitmotif" bias in there for Poll 2.  (edit) I'm afraid of tacking on too many barriers and rules, as I've already taken some potentially restricting steps going forward.  But this is an idea worth mulling over.
Yep, I PM'd everyone's that has been active for at least the last 3 months or so - so I guess that's what I meant by "relevant" - didn't mean it in a gatekeeping sense lmao.  To those I may have let slip between the cracks, feel free to vote!  It's a public Poll

Having to chose more musical themes, and try to refrain from using rythm-based musics or themes without musical leitmotifs would be a great option, It opens opportunities for remixers that could be afraid from taking risks.

    It's just my opinion though.

EDIT : Wow... You think I'm relevant to the compo scene? I'm honored, thanks

    (Edit 4~)
Erm.  Good to clarify... I meant nothing above the generation right before the xbox360, PS3 and Wii...because I've had rotten luck getting anything off the ground since 2015 from that era and the next one after it.  Yeah, it's a shitty call to make, but no entry since what...2015 has been successful when a more modern piece is chosen.  And a good bud of mine pointed out that this competition in particular, is unforgiving when it comes to doing justice to a source tune, when you have to be conservative AND match up to the sound quality it boasts. So roughly between 1984 to 2006.
Also, for #2 (which you didn't ask for clarification, but I'm gonna elaborate upon anyways =p), I'm actually not gonna implement it.  Seems a little too hard of a correction, especially since #1 is already kind of disheartening.  Also, we've seen some pretty decent participation in lesser remixed games at OCR like Ducktales, Bubble Bobble, Toejam & Earl, Parasite Eve...so this is a risk I'm willing to keep bearing.  But, I'm open to cancelling Point #1 if you guy's prefer that I roll with Point #2, though it does mean a bit more sacrifice in source tunes pool.  Though I'd probably keep the 4 Games I linked above inside that pool, since they did well before.
On a semi un-tangential point of complaining...ever since 2018...things have changed.  (It might be due to a little melt down I had in the forums at OCR, but maybe I'm giving myself too much credit??)  The thing that doesn't track, however, is why people stopped going to PRC.  Bah... (sorry so many edits).  It just sucks that participation has dipped so low... Not saying I don't appreciate the people who've come back or continue to participate - I really appreciate it!  It just sucks.  I totally get why Bundeslang is feeling burnt out, and I guess I've been feeling the burnout too.  I was in a honeymoon stage of denial.  Lmao.
