Sorta simple and boring. Rather environmental. Boring only cause this is pretty much how the original sounds. Just a lot of 1/1 notes with basic chord changes. Way short. This could be mucho developed. NO

*NO* Super Castlevania 4 'Sawtooth Darkness'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Yep, thats a saw tooth. Its dying for some 3/8 delay. Anyway, this sounds pretty much the same as the original. 01.SPC on the zophar ost. NO -
Not very much original material? I can tell. Theres hardly anything going on in this song. This is like a pretty good accompany to a vocal song, but hardly much of anything as it is. Pretty cool, but it could have been far more developed. Still, I'm impressed. UGH borderline. NO DEVELOP!!!!!!!!!!

OCR01194 - *YES* Street Fighter 2 'Go Home and Be a Family Man'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
hahaha. Yea, that was a gay ending (in the game). Drums suck, but the rest of the song is rather cool. Lots of variation where it counts. Very nice playing. I'm pretty borderline. It could have been better, but that kick ass guitar playing pushes it over to a [19:29:44] *** Signoff: djp_depressive (Quit: ) [19:30:00] <Prot> awe [19:30:02] <Prot> poor djp [19:30:03] <Prot> [19:30:09] <Prot> I'm teary eyed [19:30:27] <adhesive_boy> :'( whoops, wrong paste. *NO* Final Fantasy 7 'Reunion Orchestrated'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Pretty bland, following the original pretty much exactly. Clipping, crappy samples, lack of arrangement. Keep at it! NO -

Very nice instrumentation. Great movement. Great variation. Great. YES -

*NO* Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 'Saria's Awakening'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Yep, this is pretty much exactly like the original with the addition of bland drums, low quality synth samples, repitition, and general lack of arrangement. Fun, but NOt oc-worthy. -
OCR01221 - *YES* Mega Man 3 'Intro Jazz'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Hey! Good to see some jazz elements in a 'jazz' song for once. Recording is not too great, mastering isn't either. Second half of this song is really getting annoying. That flute, piano, and percussion is all meshed together and annoying. Ugh, this song started out so good too... Sorry dude, I dont much care for anything going on after 1:00. Aside from being pretty much a messy version of the original, it offers little except excess floody repetition. NO -
*NO* Legend of Zelda 'Hardcore Sax with the Gorons'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Drumloop with poorly mastered, poorly played piano and sax dooms this song which would otherwise be considered too far from the original. NO -
NO Mastering in this song is indeed horrible. As for the notation, its off key.

*NO* Final Fantasy 6 'Little Painter Girl'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
One at a time, please Problem here is that this mix is somewhat amateur. Percussion does not match the momentum of the piano. It just loops drums regardless of what the piano is doing. Great variation and improve, but far far far too remote from the original song. NO -
*NO* Chrono Trigger 'Chrono Goes to 1985'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
So like, aside from the annoying percussion and octave bass, its the same as the original. Upon that, its so damned repetitive. Go for some variation, this is a remix/rearrangement site, you know. NO -
SPC rip with some minor modifications NO OVERRIDE Sorry dude, we don't accept songs that sound exactly the same as the originals with minor additions.

*NO* Super Mario Bros. 'Sizzlin Sojourn'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
NO This is pretty interesting stuff. No real chords or key attention, rather a bunch of chaotic notes that partially resemble mariobros looping for a few minutes. -
[18:45:19] <Gray> when something is so overmixed like this, something new is expected [18:45:24] <Gray> i don't know [18:45:29] <Prot> me either So yea, I agree here. Looking for something new with terra mixes. Nevertheless, this is not the only reasoning here. I don't really see much merit in this song. Its pretty much the original song with a lot of layered instruments playing virtually the same notes and chords again and again for 5 minutes. Yea, the samples sound great, no theres no real arrangement merit here. NO

*NO* Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker 'Protect Your Island' *FT*
Protricity replied to GrayLightning's topic in Judges Decisions
So like, as per what darkesword said, I think its a pretty significant problem that this song sounds exactly the same as the braveheart remix. Hell, the chords are the same, and the lead is slightly different. Even if that were not a problem here, this song ends up being straight forward techno boomtish with virtually no arrangement. However, I do like the intro. NO -
OCR01171 - Metroid "Kraid's Hideout"
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
DJP was nonetheless accurate in his hashing. When someone as great and infallible as I am eventually makes a semi-mistake (I suppose its bound to happen at least once after all these years), that it is truly an event. To clarify, my NO had nothing to do with sound quality or tuning. Rather, I did not like the arrangement at all. Song is barely more than a cover, and while it works as that, this website is not for covers or genre changes, but for rearrangements and remixes. If more attention was paid to the messy keys at 1:00, and more effort was put forth into rearrangement, this song would have been much improved. Regardless, it was worth mentioning that the lacking attention to tune and recording indeed cut the song down a bit. -
Indeed, it is very obvious to me now. I had no doubts before, but now the doubts I have now are beyond doubt. ...If thats possible...

*NO* Dance Dance Revolution 3rd Mix 'Gentler Stress'
Protricity replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
What lacks in this song is the percussive element. Its so minor and irrelevent. On top of that, a lot of repeating with the progression and piano. Only redeeming quality is the cool guitar and squarewave. But everything just loop and loop and loop, then it ends. NO -
I believe I already clarified my vote, thus clarifying dan's as well.

Thus we agree that certain sections are exactly the same as the midi. As for the rest, completely original. I have no beef with the completely original sections, thus I didn't even mention them. Nevertheless, this is not a remix nor a rearrangement. Its the same genre, style as the original. And thats my story *hang*

kinda just verifys what we already know.
