  1. I tried to insert that riff into a quick remake project, but unfortunately the tempo wasn't solid and I was too lazy to do something about it. In stead I started working on a bonus entry for this track (who said you can't turn it into DnB?). I only hope that there will be some entries; doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm so far.
  2. So... for PRC282 the source track was Illusion City, a 1991 Cyberpunk RPG for MSX, PC-98 and Sega Mega-CD. I've known this game for years and always wanted to cover the main title theme but somehow never got around to doing it. PRC282 was a good excuse to give it a go and also try to remake it into something epic and hybrid like todays movie score. Not sure if I succeeded in that, but I think it turned out pretty well! C&C appreciated. 3. It's not orchestral in the least (more prog rock) but I did this exact same song for PRC278. Feel free to check it out at https://soundcloud.com/jorito/megaman-4-bone-to-pick
  4. Sounds pretty good already for a WIP, source track works well in chillout too. Reminds me to do a chillout remix someday soon Apart from the things Timaeus points out, I'm somewhat missing a bassline. I listened first on my ipad speakers, and the low end you have going on is too low for that. So you might want to consider EQing the bass you have a bit for presence for those without a subwoofer. Also the splash cymbal at 2:57 could use a bit less volume IMHO. Liking the double time change at the end, if you add a synth solo to that it'd sound totally cool. Overall sounding great already, looking forward to the finished track!
  5. Sounds good to me! I could point out a few minor nitpicks but overall I like it a lot. Good job
  6. I also have zero formal music training, I'm 100% self taught (that's also what makes it fun I guess!). Still, back when I was young (*grin*) I was making a lot of music with trackers. And of course creating game music covers back then was also a cool thing to do, but unfortunately the only real way to do it was by ear, or by recording it to tape and then continuously play, pause and rewind. But I think I'm quite good at it now, so yeah, I think just doing it really is the way to learn it. I usually start with the melody, as that one is easiest to hear and to find. After that the chords and finally the bass. And of course nowadays I don't make 1:1 covers, so that gives more freedom and flexibility and in general makes transcribing easier. You can get away with a somewhat accurate lead line and a chord progression that's more or less on par.
  7. I know I'm quite good at it, but calling it magic is maybe pushing it a bit
  8. Mostly the first, by ear. Fortunately this song isn't that complex to me, the instruments clearly separated and no quick runs that make it hard to pick out the notes. Then again, I have been doing this by ears for years, so I had a lot of praxtice and back then there also were no good tools to use. Nowadays for quick passages or complex songs I might also grab an emulator and have it create wav files for every individual track. These tracks can then be loaded in an audio editor and if needed be slowed down to easily pick out the notes. But yeah, mostly by ear, it's just a matter of doing it and practicing.
  9. LOL, I like my internet connection a lot, thankyouverymuch. Also I need it to submit a new source Thanks for the congrats, was an entertaining track to do. Guess all that that piled up inspiration from the years I've known that song paid off! And congrats to Meits for his second place. And the good part... I am not allowed to participate next round so no interference from me!
  10. I already gave grauw some feedback on his track on the IRC channel where we hang out. This is mostly a reminder to self to place some feedback on all the other tracks too
  11. Voted! And this bit of text was added because the forum wants me to enter at least 10 characters...
  12. Just for kicks, here's an older version of my song with the MIDI guitar, basically just a raw, made up on the spot lead that I didn't spend any work on programming at all: http://www.jorito.net/files/Illusion%20City/ic_20141019b.mp3 Still, I think I could have gotten quite close if I'd spent a lot of time on programming the midi and articulations properly and played with the amps a bit. This is Shreddage 2 btw, luv it.
  13. Good to see a Batman entry in there too, Sir_Nuts can sleep well again Reading my own entry's text I'm shamed to admit I forgot something. Kudos to Frederic Petitpas (Metal Man here on the forums) for replacing my MIDI guitar with a real recording.
  14. Congrats to DusK for the first place, and to the rest of course! Too bad I didn't have time to really polish my entry, feels a bit rough to me. Still fun to do though Jazz voices were from Omnisphere btw.
  15. It comes to mind that saying 'yes, I heard your soundcloud version' is also a favorable response Care to share the link here too?
  16. Voted! And yeah, it was a great round again with a good amount of entries
  17. It's correct on ThaSauce, but in your 'vote now' post you mention saturday October 4. Guess a bit too much copy/paste from last round there?
  18. Nothing wrong with your source, mate! I listened to it and quite liked it. It's just that i'm still an MSX user and dug the Illusion City track for ages without ever remixing it. So you can consider my track as catching up on a missed opportunity in stead of criticism on your source
  19. Arf, that sucks big time. Hope you can restore it or find a backup
  20. LOL, reading my description at ThaSauce people must really expect a weird sounding track Of course I meant 'voices' in stead of 'hands', awell...
  21. Just chiming in to let evktalo know I'm willing to provide more detailed feedback on the mixes as well as soon as the new topic is up. I can be very nitpicky
  22. No worries, I submitted my track Not my best work ever but still enjoyable I think
  23. Track submitted! Might upload an updated version with some mix improvements later, but it feels good to have it available already
  24. Thanks for the reminder I have a WIP that I'm not entirely satisfied about, but I'll submit it before the deadline regardless.
