  1. Finally found some time to work on the song, added an ending, changed the calm part, added some variations and accents and did a bit of work on the mix. Finishing it still has to wait until the guitar parts are added tho. Here's the new version: http://www.jorito.net/files/Contra/Contra%20-%20Waterfall%2020140330.mp3 Again, feedback most welcome!
  2. Whoops, sorry. Just trying to be helpful (had a bit of search time finding it myself)...
  3. They do exist, I found them under general » community » projects » private project subforums, and then album: hometown heroes. Not sure if you can access it though.
  4. Okay, I'll bite. Groningen, the Netherlands here.
  5. Pity I missed this, sounds like fun and lots to learn (or teach, since the criteria for stardom are so relaxed it'd also apply to me). Awell, maybe next time.
  6. Thanks for your feedback! Actually the mix could use a bit of work, but since Hakstock was kind enough to offer to record some live rhythm and bass guitar for this track, I will wait for that before I work on the mix. Gives me time to work on an ending first
  7. I agree with Blindzoom, it's indeed too long, making it a bit repetitive at times. Considering the original (which is quite short and sober IIRC) it's quite a bit of work to make it into something worth listening. I feel it'd do better if it was around 4 minutes. Probably a matter of taste, but the kick drums in the beginning seem to have this kind of laser-y sound to them that I personally don't like a lot. Other than that I love the mix, and the production sounds very good to me too. Great job!
  8. Pretty interesting promise, and I'm a sucker for Chrono Trigger... Have some other obligations too, but will give it some thought
  9. So... while looking for some new material to remix, I found an old favorite of mine: Contra's stage 4 music, Waterfall. Because I was a bit bored with al the metal versions of the Contra soundtrack, I decided to go for an orchestral version with a strong rock groove. And because of my MSX gaming roots I picked the MSX version for inspiration of course Still needs an ending, but feedback is much appreciated! 10. Great to see this moving along. To quote the Duke: "finally some action" Not gonna record myself playing either the original Ys 3 or the Oath in Felghana and watch for emotions like Tuberz does. But definately gonna listen to some of those great Falcom stuff and do some thinking about the track first (seems to work better for me these days than just doing something and hoping something good comes out of it).
  11. Okay, sign me up for Ys 3 - Trading town of Redmont. Oldskool as I am with my MSX roots, I link to a very oldskool version: This should be interesting
  12. If I'm interested in submitting? Yes, I am! The WIP was my first track in that style, if you think the other stuff on my Soundcloud still warrants a contribution you can sign me up. Give me some time to choose a track though. I know it's gonna be one from Falcom but haven't decided on which one yet.
  13. Not sure how this works exactly (OCR n00b here), but I'd like to nominate Falcom's Legend of Heroes series. And then specifically the PSP game "Song of the Ocean". There's plenty of Ys remixes around already, otherwise Ys 3 Town of Redmond would have been great. So... Song of the Ocean. This sounds like a really nice addition to the album IMHO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxWqDkXve0M What kind of requirements and criteria are there in participating in the album with a track?
  14. Thanks! Not sure if I would call it soothing myself, but I like it Hopefully I'll have an updated version addressing the last few things I want to change in a few days.
  15. Nope, 100% Renoise (as you can see in http://www.jorito.net/files/bigtrack.png). And yeah, I know that a normal DAW really helps in arranging, but I've only been working in Logic for a few weeks now (Vampire Killer is my second Logic track!)...
  16. That makes sense. Problem is that this song was made in Renoise, and where Renoise is great at the note/detail level, it's not as good as when it comes to flexible arrangement and moving things without loosing track. Will give this some thought, think this is gonna be a longer term project
  17. Really appreciate you great feedback on my remixes, it's clear and spot on! Keep up the good work :)

  18. Basses are sidechained to a silent kick (a first for me), but you are right about the sustain. I was already looking into the releases of the bass and some of the synth stabs. Since I'm still learning to listen and mix, care to point out some specific problems or example? That'd be really helpful! About the lead guitar... I'm not sure if I can get it much better than this. Maybe it was a dumb idea anyway, I'm considering replacing it with a screaming synth. Would also fit the song and style better. The other option would be to get a real guitar recording, but that might take a while. Lastly, your remark about source usage has me kinda worried. The only real original parts are the speech part and the wobbly bass part, the other parts are either the original (2 loops of about 40 seconds) or beavily based on it (the intro and outro). Still, the song is 4 minutes, of which about 80 seconds clearly source material... Awell, maybe it should just be a nice song to listen to in stead of my first OCR submission if that's a reason for rejection
  19. That's some very useful feedback, thanks! The copy/paste thing and the production/mix are things I know of and that aren't too bad to fix. However, your first remark about medley cohesiveness kinda has me worried on how to proceed. I have to give that some thought and overhaul the arrangement to fix it, any suggestions?
  20. Thanks again for the very helpful feedback, guys. Spent a lot of time with the song again today, and I think it's as good as done. The only things that would probably need another look are the guitar part (sequencing lead guitar is quite tricky) and the mix (at which I'm no good). Anyway, another day, another version, hopefully one of the last: http://www.jorito.net/files/Vampire%20Killer/Vampire%20Killer%2020140224.mp3 So... is it indeed almost finished or did I make it worse? I'll check the rules for this. Like you said, it's a bit cheesy and the song doesn't really need it. I might try and add some nice vocoded speech in stead.
  21. I have to admit I blatantly ripped that out of the intro of the PC-Engine version of Dracula X. Not sure if there's an OCR policy that disallows that in remixes, I just added it because I thought it'd fit nicely.
  22. Worked a bit with the suggestions from Kanohi, and I think it worked out pretty sweet. Also made the drop a bit longer, added some (subtle) variations of the bass line and a sub bass and did some general polishing. In short... time for a new version! http://direct.jorito.net/files/Vampire%20Killer/Vampire%20Killer%2020140223.mp3 As I'm nearing the finished version of this song, feedback is highly appreciated. Especially about the mix, because I'm no good at mixing
  23. Thanks for the great feedback, very useful! I'm not much of an expert on complextro and was just experimenting a bit. This is also the part of the song I wasn't 100% about, so really appreciate the detailed feedback on this part! I'll play around with your suggestions and check some more reference material
  24. So... lately I have been working on a kind of dance track version of Castlevania's Vampire Killer song with some nice retro bleeps and (an attempt at) complextro basslines in it. The track needs some polishing but is near to being finished. I would really appreciate some feedback to make it the best track I can Without further ado: Remix: http://www.jorito.net/files/Vampire%20Killer/Vampire%20Killer%2020140220.mp3 Original: (PS: I still need a name for this track. Apparently all my creativity went into the music so I'm a bit dumb struck atm. Any suggestions? )
  25. Lately I have been working on a medley with music from Space Manbow, which is a classic game for the MSX by Konami in the Gradius series. The song is a rock/pop/symphonic mixture and contains 2 songs (the first level song and the intro song, in that order). I'm considering submitting it to ocremix after lurking around for ages, but some feedback would be highly appreciated before I do that!
