I always thought this reasoning was retarded. You've got something of a point on the multiplayer experience, but seriously. "I was into it before it was cool, now it's popular so it sucks" is utterly moronic. I've felt that while Halo 3 > Halo 2 > Halo 1 mechanically speaking (that is, the engine and the gameplay balance increased with each game in the series), from a storytelling perspective Halo 1 > Halo 2 > Halo 3. Halo 1 had an original and interesting story, Halo 2's was good but not spectacular (and was sort of killed by its non-ending), while Halo 3's was a rehash of 1 and 2 with a healthy dose of character derailment on top.

[Submitted] Kingdom Hearts - Dearly Beloved Trance Remix
Native Jovian replied to NeoS's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
At 1:55 in a 2:50 song. I know it's there, I'm just saying it needs to be more there. Plus the actual melody tends to get drowned out by the drums, which is also an issue. -
[Submitted] Kingdom Hearts - Dearly Beloved Trance Remix
Native Jovian replied to NeoS's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
It's a good enough song, except that I can't really hear the "Dearly Beloved" part in there. I've listened to it like three times now, sort of nodding my head to the beat, and then when it ended I was like "wait, wasn't that supposed to be a remix"? -

Mega Man 2-3 (Airman and Gemini Man)
Native Jovian replied to Lie Mf B's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The opening is abrupt and awkward. It's just a sense of "what the hell is going on?" until the main part begins at about 0:03. Which isn't a lot of time, I realize, but given that it's the very first thing you hear when you play the track, you want to make a better impression than that. You could probably do with upping the volume on the guitars, but it's not too bad. The drums seem to be a lot more clear when the guitars should really be what the listener is drawn to. The transition at 2:31 is too abrupt, especially as it doesn't really lead anywhere. From 2:30 to 2:40 really feels tacked on (though I did enjoy it, especially the rising progression on the guitar at around 2:35). You go from fairly mellow before 2:30, inject a lot of energy between 2:30 and 2:40, and then return to even more mellow than before after 2:40. It doesn't work. The latter half of the song is quite good. The guitar is clearly in the lead, but there's enough interesting stuff going on underneath it that it doesn't get dull. Despite what I'm certain SOMEONE will say, you do not require more cowbell. The ending is... nonexistant. The song doesn't end, it just STOPS. You should fix that. -
Giygas why you gotta be all up in my grill
Native Jovian replied to Jaybell's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
You need to tweak volumes. The drums (especially the cymbols) are drowning out everything else. Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of variation from the original song. Mix it up a little more and that would help a lot. Samples aren't great (I think that's what it is? I'm not exactly up on the technical aspects of remixing. It sounds "fake".) but I'm not sure what exactly you could do about that, so maybe someone else would have some better advice. -
Ditto on the "WTF no Harvest Moon remixes?!" This is from HM64, right? There are approximately 60,000 Harvest Moon games and many of them share themes like this -- I think I recognize the winter theme from HM64, but I'm not sure if that's what you're actually using or if it's just a similar track from a different HM game. (Ack I'm an idiot I just noticed that it said "Harvest Moon SNES" in the .mp3 info....) The beginning is very well done, interesting without being overstated, right up until 0:27 when the strings come in. I tend to agree that the strings are a bit much, at least when they first start. It may be because you've got the two string parts going at the same time? They tend to muddle each other up. I would suggest dropping the pitch of the background one (meaning the part that continues past 1:22), so it's less like two violins playing at the same time and more like a violin with bass accompaniment. They clear up at about 0:54 where they start doing two different parts so you can hear them both clearly, but until then it's more confused than anything else. I'm not sure if 0:54 to 1:22 would sound better with the violin/bass combo than how it is now, but I'd suggest giving it a shot and seeing how it turns out. You can always change it back if it doesn't work out. The fluteish part that starts at 1:22 is good, but I think would sound better if the string was lower (in pitch, not volume) as well. The flute itself could be a little louder; as it is it tends to get overwhelmed by the string. Things get muddled again around 1:52, but I'm less sure what it is in this section. Something in the background sounds a bit fuzzy; I'm not sure if it's the strings again or the same thing you were using in the beginning before 0:27, but something needs to be done with that. I'm not thrilled with the ending; I feel like it needs a little more warning than we get, but I'm not sure how to accomplish that. However, overall, it's a very promising mix! I like the way it captures the same sort of lonely/melancholy feeling that the original has, but expands on it.

How many people are playing this on 360 rather than PC? I'll probably pick it up sooner or later and I'm leaning toward the 360 version (easier voice chat + no stuttering hardware = win), but I'll be sad if anyone and everyone here is playing on the PC version instead.

I've seen some stuff around about a new version of Risk that's supposed to not take as long to finish. Anyone know what that's about?

I'm just using the "quick game" option.

Okay, I've been playing the hell out of this on Xbox Live, and I decided to try the Steam version just for yuks. But every time I try to join a game, it can't find any, so it makes me host of a new one, which no one ever joins. Clearly there's something wrong here. Someone please help the nice newb?

Damn if it hasn't been ages since I've been back here. If I could get my usernamed updated to "Native Jovian", that would be awesome.

Super Sonic = Super Saiyan?
Native Jovian replied to electric concerto's topic in General Discussion
The obvious psychoanalysis-type answer is the fact that basically everyone in Japan has black hair and brown eyes, so someone with light (eg blond) hair and bright (eg blue/green) eyes is obviously "special" -- and thus Super Sayians, Super Sonic, and Super Robots all turn Aryan when they enter a stage of ultimate asskicking power. Of course, I can't say if there's actualy anything to that or it's so much Freudian BS. But it's the first answer that comes to mind. -

It's not just Sonic that knocks off the Super Sayian thing. G Gundam does it too, with its Super Mode and Hyper Mode. G Gundam, for the record, originally aired from April '94 to March '95. -

I officially request a Brave Fencer Kirby (that's Brave Fencer Musashi + Kirby, for those of you who didn't get the reference). A Jedi Kirby would also be awesome.

He joins your crew? Did I miss something? After he killed Krelian and Miang, he just kinda disappeared, didn't he? I mean, I sure as hell haven't seen him... ...Say what? Did that make sense to anyone else?
