PRC89: How many barrel rolls have YOU done today? [Results]
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
The mixing stage is over. The voting stage is here! To vote, you send me a PM and in that PM you place the three mixes from first to third. Contestants don't need to place their own songs as they will automatically get a first place vote. The vote of the winner of PRC88 (me) counts twice. Your deadline is Tuesday, March 13th at 4:59AM EST. The winner gets to choose the source material for PRC90! Unfortunately, it is a MIDI rip so we can't allow it access into the competition. I do praise your string samples though. -

The People's Remix Competition 89 PRCv4-11 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! Heathens! PRC starts early! Actually, I'm going to be hanging around Manchester for this afternoon, and odds are I might not return until the early hours of the morning. Either way, let's get to business. PRC88 had a very quantitive turnout thanks to the use of some Lunar coverage. And in spite of the tight vote, you guys wanted me to pick another source tune. I've had so many thoughts in mind, yet in the end, it all came down to this. We need more kemonobitos flying spaceships, right? I didn't actually start actively playing Nintendo 64 videogames until last summer, when I went through a fair selection of titles and came to see how they shaped up. Yet it's this title that stuck out to me like a sore thumb - it may be simple to the point that much of the game is flying from point A to point B but the diversity in the way you get there thanks to the branching paths made it all worthwhile. I also really like the music score in spite of djpretzel openly criticising the sound chip (see his description for V to the X Power) - technology aside, I thoguht much of it was well written and emphasised well enough for the respective areas that we're in. It may have been a radical departure from the original title's rock/orchestra blends but I still thought it worked. I chose this song because it was shown to be one of the more easily identifiable tracks in the score as well as what can be seen to be a more frequent reoccurance than most themes emphasized in the series to date. It also has that kind of Spanish combat feel to it, which seems good enough for me. I'm sure there's plenty of room for interpretation, so I hope to see some good stuff come out of this Star Fox 64 - Star Wolf Battle Theme MIDI | MP3 | USF (library) I hope this goes down well, and I hope I come out of Manchester alive and well. But enough thoughts about the day ahead... GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. There is no limit on entry format or file size, but length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed. Entries must be posted in this thread by NEXT SATURDAY, March 10th at 4:59am Eastern US Time. Alternatively, you can also email your submissions over to submission@doulifee.com, though it would also help if you put forward a reminder in the thread. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted. The winner of the previous contest may not enter an eligible mix, but his/her vote will count double. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. Doulifée's PRC Archives! If you need help with hosting your mix, contact myself or Doulifée, and we'll help you out.

Just out of question Andy, why did you remove your criticisms in your previous post? Music is about making us grow, right?
-
And there was me thinking that the Forbidden Donut would be next I know how tight it was, and peoples' thoughts seem to differ a heck of a lot. Nonetheless, I thought really well of many of these entries, more notably yours and Andy's squabbling hard personally.

Mmmmmm... popcorn. </Homer Simpson> ahem. TIME UP!! And now it's time to present the scores. Are you with me? Total number of voters - 11 Total number of mixes - 8 Highest Possible Score - 88 Chickenwarlord has once again achieved the last place wooden spoon with 24 points. Chavous wasn't far behind in seventh place with 33 points. TheoConfidor made his return to PRC through sixth place with 38 points. Pocketman made a bold entry to fifth place with 51 points. Andy Jayne chipped through to fourth place with 59 points. Villainelle made her way into third place this time with 65 points. OneUp only just squeezed past her as well as only just settling for second place with 66 points. And the winner of PRC88 is Rexy with 67 points! See? I wasn't kidding when the votes were THAT TIGHT. AGAIN. >.> But nonetheless, another PRC, another opportunity to find a source tune. I hope to get something ready for you by friday. Well done on the turnout, all. I think we can come to the conclusion that Sir Nuts knows his source tunes pretty well. Nonetheless, I'll see you in a few days time with the thread for PRC89.

The votes are really, REALLY tight with 15 minutes left to go. And just like last time, the leader keeps changing with almost every vote sent through. If you want to make a difference, keep voting
-
If you thought the turnout for this is huge, wait til you start competing in the Dwelling of Duels every month. THAT'S what we gotta fear more Over 11 hours left, and tick and tock...

It's reminder time. You have 11 hours left to get your mixes in ready for the voting stage. Hop to it

Just so you guys know, I will have an update over the weekend, but I've been too swamped by my IT studies lately to get time to make the render on what I've done earlier in the week. Nonetheless, I should have it here by Sunday night at the latest.

In GMT, your time is 10AM on Saturday morning. I hope this is of some clarification. Also, Bladiator's PRC81 entry just passed the judges panel and is now facing the long and tedious waiting process before it becomes available on the site. Attaboy Karl, you know we love you

You try telling that to Vig; according to the lyrics to Funky Monkey Love, he sees taking things "nice and slow" as a way to seduce the ladies. Weren't you two separated at birth anyways?
-
Welcome back, ORC. Interesting 51 contest jump though, but I personally won't blame you. Now, let's see what kind of entries we can get out of this one. I wonder what kind of people would make it sound more/less pop-song-ish than it already is (yay random thoughts on a sunday morning)

Isn't S.S.H. just one guy? He was born Saitama Saisyu Heiki for a reason, Kyle.

It never did get a release in North America. All that came on the English side was a translation from Gideon Zhi and a bunch of translators.

PRC87's Spyro related competition had one of the most heated votes I've seen in weeks, yet through all the odds, Sir Nuts came through as the winner via turning to the funk genre for creating his entry. So once again, we have a source tune from the king of palm trees, decided from what seemed like an entire Wednesday night of browsing through various source materials. We're still with disc systems, but this time we're going further back with what can arguably be seen as one of the best games on the Sega CD. That's unless you think RPGs are for geeks... >.> Lunar: Eternal Blue - Field of Reaching for Tomorrow MIDI | MP3 It's experiencing music like what I saw through there that actually makes me want to check out what else the Sega CD is capable of. That's on my list of "stuff to do before ghost-discing my computer". But yeah, I'll ramble about that later. GOOD LUCK! Thank you, very much appreciated So, what is there to do now than announce who took the gold? Let's all hold all hands and paws and see who defeated Gnasty Gnorc and reclaimed the hidden treasures... I mean, won the PRC. Total number of songs: 4 Total number of mixes: 14 (woohoo!) Highest possible score: 56 avaris ended up in last place with 22 points. V_gasm had a close battle and settled for third place with 37 points. The Orichalcon cleared his return via a route to second place with 41 points. And the winner of PRC87 is Sir Nuts with 42 points! Holy crap! Not only did we see an influx of votes, but we also saw a very tight battle for first place here. Either way, you've got the gold Nuts. (that didn't come out right...) You know the deal - send me a source tune by Friday and I'll have the competition geared up promptly. So, what can I say? Well done for another successful PRC. Hopefully I should see you all again on Friday, same OCR-place, same OCR-channel.

I think we need the response more than ever. We currently have a TIE at the moment, and I really hope that someone would chip in in the next 20 minutes to break it up. Please?
-
I still can't edit. I've had to rely on Doulifee to do that, though goodness knows how long it would last. I do see that you like a moderate turnout of 4 or 5, though for me I seem to be missing the days when various PRCs can tow in at least 6 on a more consistent basis than the norm. I do feel though that as long as quality is further emphasised than quantity for quantity's sake, that should be what matters. Anyway, you have eight hours left. Get cracking and don't let any stupid cupids knock you down on the way out
-
Wut? It's only four main entries. The only way we CAN get uptight about that situation is if there's about 7 or more entries involved. Thanks for the votes so far though.
-
Don't worry about it. It still shows that you took your time to contribute nonetheless. It's too late to add you to the voting, but I still hope that you are able to contribute again for the next contest. And man, votes are coming in here like hotcakes. Nice work so far
-
I played that game, and Pogo's chapter was the first chapter I got to play. Surprisingly enough, this track was among what I feel is the easiest to make interpretations of. I'm not saying that I might though, but I think it's a fun source that practically anyone can tustle with. If I have time before my Uni studies are over for good I might do that.
-
I don't think that's a good idea. Odds are that someone could cheat if they see the source tune before the next contest. And there could be bias for certain games as well, so I don't see it to work well in practice.
