The mixing stage is over, and now, the voting stage has begun! To vote, send me a PM with your preference of artists from first to fourth. Contestants don't need to place themselves as they get a first place vote. The vote of the winner of PRC84 (Hetcenus) counts for double. You have until Wednesday, January 3rd 2007 at 4:59PM to cast your vote. The winner will get to choose the source material for PRC85! Happy voting, and Happy New Year aluminum - Yield avaris - Bombay Sapphire GSlicer - Bonaparte's Balls Sir Nuts - Goa Zone Xela - Scrambled Thoughts of a Magical Screwdriver The People's Remix Competition 84 PRCv4-6 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! PRC83 had a festive song being provided for us to see, in the form of some wintry Sonic coverage. And coming out from beneath the ashes... um... snow rather, Hetcenus came through with a piano rhapsody that managed to take the win. For PRC84, we're still with the same series apparently. Whether it would be a good or bad thing is your judgment, not mine. Either way, here's your source. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Master System) - Scrambled Egg Zone MIDI | MP3 | VGZ Man, a Master System would have been so cool to actually own. The closest I ever came was fiddling around with one owned by one of my elder cousins for half an hour, on The Lucky Dime Caper (some Donald Duck game). I did own a Game Gear but that's a different story. Enough mental flashbacks for now... GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. There is no limit on entry format or file size, but length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed. Entries must be posted in this thread by NEXT SATURDAY, December 30th at 4:59am Eastern US Time. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted. The winner of the previous contest may not enter an eligible mix, but his/her vote will count double. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score. Doulifée's PRC Archives! If you need help with hosting your mix, contact myself or Doulifée, and we'll help you out.

We used to have a remix of that game, but it got taken down in the recent lockdown. Then again it covered the Skerries music, which in essence is actually a re-arranged version of the Donkey Kong Land boss theme. We're game to see more arrangements of this game. I'd thank anyone for taking it up

There was an entire PRC dedicated to that source tune. The PRC storage is at Doulifee's webspace - look it up under PRC73.

OCR01464 - Castlevania: Circle of the Moon "Time's Anxiety"
Rexy replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
You're currently lucky because the original VGMix edit was hosted here among other entries in the third round of RPGamer.com's "Splendid Performance" competition from last year. Gray did the sound render on that version too (I couldn't do anything production-wise with a cheap general midi interface at the time) so don't assume that it's a "collab gone wrong" as falsely accoused (sorry to say that). I thought I was more proud of this version to be honest, especially with the additional production embellishments and the abandomnent of an odd choice of using a low flute instead of a timpani roll in a few sections. In an essence, the arrangement in both versions is still at least 85% all me, yet in both versions Gray was there to help out in making the track come to life, no matter how long it took. While the comparisons are being made (or lack thereof?), can someone tow Liontamer in here? I remember he played this on one of his VG Frequency "best of" shows, so he might know a little more of what's being talked about. -
Ashane covered the battle theme if you want that. It was in the Dwelling of Duels May/June 2004 Free Month.
-
How many joke songs are we going to have in here anyways? Kanjika, thanks very much for your thoughts on this. I did state that right after I'm done with most of the arrangement on the song I will get a real guitarist to come in (though some people claimed that I should take this in a Protricity style direction). I'm assuming you aren't too hot with the "pluck" sound though - that was doubling up a dulcimer with a lute (was it even woodwind, or a string synth? damn, I can't remember X.x). What kind of sound are you looking for there? I'm assuming by your commentary you'd be needing something a little more mellow, or at least something that doesn't have that harsh an attack? Still I love you guys very much. Bear in mind that if there's a next WIP date before the middle of January I might not make it due to Christmas break (all my work's done here at college), but I'm still destined to put forth the rest of the ideas in the coming months.
-
I understand this is a nice little competition, but in the making of your song, is it okay to publically ask others for feedback as it progressively gets along, like putting it in the WIP forums or anything like that? Either way, I'm game for this, if only to figure out why no one wants to serenade Barret or anything O.o

As awesome as that was, you just wait til Summoning of Spirits comes out. KFC might say the same thing. -

Haha, point taken I call dibs on Sonicstyle! So far I put up a link in one of my Deviantart journals (not many people read it and the one person who did comment didn't understand what the hell was going on o_O) and went on some Sonic boards and clarifying some things for some listeners wondering whether the teaser site or the actual PHP page is the actual project. Word seems to be steadily coming out at least. -
I understand the unreliability of the project staff (and I see your reasons for it), but this is still simply penalising the popularity for both the project *and* the podcast. Besides, Hadyn didn't get a chance to see his mail until today so please don't see him as ignorant. But I can see what's happened. I just hope it hasn't robbed the project of any kind of "special" mention per se, but I hope the break will still give you time to clear things out after what came to happen. I'm sorry if I caused a fuss over nothing. (and I suppose my voicemail from last week will be deleted too; it'll be too out of date to keep by the next actual VGDJ episode... oh well.)
-
I'd feel really sorry for you right now, but that's how things go. I know that you wanted to add another one of your crazy spins on the podcast, and I know I love to see you do such things like that. But as a member of the project itself, I still think that it's not a good idea to blame people for doing things that went completely wrong or was mistimed or whatever. On top of that, Hadyn (the guy who didn't respond) mentioned in the project topic itself that he lives in Australia, so he couldn't come anyway. Still I do feel really upset because this was a podcast I was waiting with anticipation for for a really long time. I don't want to act like a pushover, but I felt heartbroken to see this, not only to assume that KFC and SnappleMan have sort of caused this decision, but also a reaction like this. I guess there's no point getting fussy over spilt milk, so I might as well leave you two to do your thing, whichever it is.

KFC, Snappleman, Rexxy, and myself. I might not be a mathematical genius, but isn't that four? It's still three - what are the odds of me flying from the UK to hang out with Pixie and Zircon? o_O I would assume by that reason that I didn't receive anything (though they could have at least been able to let me say a message through the answering machine or something). I think with the way this is going, the project looks like it's about to lose some popularity here. I just hope that's not the case. -

While we're on the subject of bad energy... Man, this blows. I was really looking forward to this week's podcast, the project being one of the reasons and my venture to Video Games Live in London being another. I don't know which of the project personnel caused the podcast to take a break, but you've just crushed whatever spirit I had when I woke up this morning. Thank you. -

Heh, wouldn't have expected that. Me neither. We don't have CarboHydroM or mv or anyone like that on the project, so what gives? Either way, many of these tracks have made their way to my iPod for great listening. After many intense listens I've grown to love much of the material. Prime picks from Disk 1 have included Walk on Water, Knuckleduster and Three Ring Nightfall (holy cow Hadyn, this is a jump up from you in terms of quality O.O), and from Disk 2 I'd say Live at the Sandopolis, Breathtaking Vision and Scrambled Eggman are great to absorb. Disc 3, of course, had bonus material to cover but was worthwhile for Red Sphere, Blue Sphere and Ivory Gadget (this track, of course, being Hetcenus's audition into the Dragon Warrior project if you want to know - great to hear it was finally revealed to the public). Man, I love you guys -
I haven't been aware of an arrangement of FF9 Terra on the site at all, but I do remember Destiny making a sweet rendition of it back at VGMix2.

Haha, I'm trying to wonder how you can make something evil out of Tetris Nice changes!

OCR01528 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Scrambled Eggman"
Rexy replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
wtf Doug, your mother likes metal? O.O Either way, I might as well share some love for this as well. Of all the metal mixes that ended up on the projects, this ended up being one of my favorites, up there with "Live at the Sandopolis" and "Malicious Fingers". I'm often a fan of BrainCells's tendancy to make things heavier than they actually are and SnappleMan's melodic rock approach to his remixes, and the fusion together put together one heck of a head-banging result. If I was physically standing next to either/both of you, I'd hug and kiss you all over again because of what you did in this arrangement. Nice work -

Years of delays and restarts... ? A bit over the top imo.. It took over a year, maybe 1 and a half, but not years of restarts.... or did i miss something ?? I say blame it on Walan - he did the news post. -

"My Name is Nineko", anyone? But all jokes aside, thanks for the lyrics Dan. I haven't heard too much stuff from Milli Vanilli to be sure, but still, I'm glad you're having fun with all this game-based lyric writing stuff. -

Am I one of few that thought the lyrics made the song? On top of that, this is among one of my favorites on the project - hard to say considering there were many great songs on there, but this helps in putting in all the stops in making it stand out from the crowd. The voice itself is almost completely different to what I've come to expect from Dan B - more of a rock voice than the mellow tone I've come to expect from stuff like Invertebrate Retreat - and it's easily gone to show that with stuff like this, Dan B is heading in the direction of being a jack of all trades, whether it be musically or vocally. Thank you again for a great addition to the site and the project. Now, please provide the lyrics so we can sing along -

I agree. I can admit to be someone who does fanart (though more regular than the usual) and fanfiction (haven't written any since march last year tho). And when I do, I sometimes like to mess around with the original concepts, yet go for something as artistic as done on the project. From what I've witnessed on various fanart/fanfiction web pages, people seem to mainly praise even the most off-character fanfics (mostly yaoi fics... ouch) and have crushes on certain videogame characters expressed in artwork, yet thinking that videogame music should be left alone is a confusing thing to put through. I don't want to be the person to say that in front of anyone, but someone should. It should be a point worth taking into consideration. -

I'm aware of the thought of their "childhood" being ass-wiped, for lack of better terminology at this time of day. That's why I said if they want to hear the original soundtrack, they can grab the original soundtrack. I do bear the thought that they might have wanted covers though. While there's usually nothing wrong with that (read: xoc), I seem to find the appeal a little limiting and sound better with the original sound chip they originated from. On top of that, I wouldn't go as far as calling that method complete poppycock without reasons to back it up, so people doing that to OCR seems to make things feel uncomfortable. But there's possibly no point in arguing as it's other peoples' opinions at the end of the day. Scott, I much appreciate your "essay" on this (LoL~!!). Though I wonder what other people have to say about that, I'd just finish up with a simple "thankyou very much" -

Larry (and everyone else who replied after him), those posts are from August. They must be merely based on the teaser site. Though yeah, I don't get why they hated OCR so much. If they want the original soundtrack they can just listen to the original soundtrack. What we have here is 35 different interpretations of some classic Sonic music, and there's no way we'll change that to be as really conservative and unpassable as they want them to be, right? -

Don't worry about it, Hadyn. If he wants to state his opinion via mentioning its strengths as well as its weaknesses, that's fine. At least he's not directly flaming Het's and Joker's capabilities. -

Whoa, thanks - I thought I'd get shot down for that O.O If it helps, I'm getting the real thing for Christmas, so the acoustic is becoming a bit of a passion at the mo. I still think that my drums sound like they were processed in a washing machine, but nevermind. All's well that ends well
