  1. in an email or private message, i forget which, DJP said that this would probably be faster. But then that Morrowwind track was submitted and posted in less than three days, because I was hosting the file for him.
  2. CotMM here with a new collaboration between myself, Beatdrop and K.Pras After harrassing my CPU with Lame for around 40 minutes I've managed to get the MP3 under the 6 meg limit. Being that the song is just over six minutes long I was concerned that the quality would be lowered nastily, however by toying around with Absolute Bitrate and other such things I think it turned out as good as it can. This is Brinstar Red Soil Swamp Area from Super Metroid in an ambient and industrial style, served with a nice glaze. hope you enjoy (and yeah, i know most of you judges have already heard this at some point, but listen to it anyway ) (There is a HQ version there also if you want it)
  3. Mmm.. soft soft sines. Mellow and warm without an overpowering richness. Yeah, i'm digging this. Even from a standpoint of doing a track with just sines it's a nice feel. Ah yeah, the main drum loop just kicked in. I'm digging the airy minimal feel. Airy feels wrong since it's warm like melted chocolate, but you get my point. I can dig it. YES
  4. A minute fifty. No one just does epic tracks anymore, do they? I push 5 or 6 minutes in a track and it feels like it's too short. Oh well.. Nice punk/rock type cover here. Nothing too technically thrilling, and the drumline is lackluster, but it gets the job done. The addition of some sounding NES stabs in the bassline is nice. Blends in well with the fuzzies. It's short, it's sweet. I think we need some nice little rock diddles like this. YES
  5. Anno? This sounds a lot like the Library theme from SotN. Must just be the choice of instruments. Those instruments do sound pretty damn nice though (Except for that crash cymbol roll right in the first few seconds, it's icky because of the way it's retriggered). Overall there's alot of richness in the instruments but I'm feeling like it's just too short for the format. It does feel pretty complete by the time it's over, but I really think it should be longer. Those are more of personal taste issues than technical assertations, so YES
  6. Oh dear. I hear disco style toms and orchestra hits. At least they are all nice and clear and bouncy and stuff. I hope my dislike of the genre won't get in the way of my judging this. Ok, this first segment is just plain annoying sounding. Granted it's a wonderfully clean and detailed sound with some nice layers, but... my Lord, I want to punch someone in the face after listening to this. *sigh* ok.. So this is basically a hella goofy arrangement. The syncopation in the last minute or so of some of the supporting stabs comes off as feeling out of beat because of the constant speaker bouncing. I really do not like this track, however it's pretty well done and sonically is pretty good and peppy. YES
  7. Mario 2 had more than two songs in it? I keep forgetting. heh. Alright, lets see what we've got here. Ok, I see what you're trying to do here, but I really don't feel like the dissonance in the first minute in the marimba like line versus the staps works. It almost sounds like they are out of tune because of a ring mod or because of a shift in a sample or soundfont. You might want to check into that. The FM guitar line that starts hitting really isn't bringing any focus or drive into the track. So far everything has felt really jumbled. Once you finally bring in that bass line things are getting some momentum, but that guitar line just feels awkward versus it. By this point you've probably lost most listeners because they don't want to be patient with the repetition of the intro. The break in the last minute is a nice change, the richness and warmth of the simple samples is a nice change versus the harsh overtones of that stabby line. If you drop the first minute or two and expand on this end section you might have a nice minimalistic track. I could hear this turning into a minimal trance type deal with some smooth reverbed sawwave leads doing a drawn out arppegio line over your foundation. Because of the simplicity of the track you might want to think about reworking this with the idea of "Radio Edit" in mind. You've got a simple theme to present, so you have to grab the listeners attention right off the bat. Maybe we'll see this a little more developed one day in the future, but for now: NO (Yeah, so this is more of a writeup in the style of a WIP post, but since these are released on the other board we might as well try and be more helpful in our feedback and thoughts, right?)
  8. Nice to see some non technosh1ts on the judges board for a change. The quality of the string patches used here really takes away from the effectiveness of the mix, also with the choir. It really bothers me to say NO to a nice arrangement that someone has obviously spent time doing and done technically rather well, but just doesn't have the experience or equipment to have the instruments sound good. I'm going to say YES to this one because I think it's a nice, if not repeditive arrangement. The instruments are definatly a big con, but given how forgiving the general audience of OCR tends to be, and the lack of this style of music on the site I belive it is acceptable.
  9. Gah. I'm just finishing up a Brinstar mix with Beatdrop and K.Pras I'm glad it's not this version of brinstar though, it's brinstar (red swamp) from Super Metroid which hasn't been touched yet. I'm anal about getting to be the first to do an obscure track Oh well. I happen to like this theme anyway, so that's cool too. I'm really enjoying the almost highschool band sound of it. Not a huge orchestra or anything but just like a small concert band. I miss being in a concert band. I have a few gripes about the attacks of some of the instruments, but it's pretty damn hard to get them to sound good in a digital form anyway, so I wont be too terribly critical of them. Personally I think this rather straight arrangement of the track works quite well. Again, not the most technically amazing thing I ever heard, but it's certainly a fun listen. Up in the last 45 seconds I question some of the chord choices, but nothing that's gonna make my rip my headphones off in disgust. Nice. YES
  10. waiiiii four on teh floor Ok, lets see whats down with this. Um, ok it's been 1:19 and nothing has really happened yet. This is very quickly loosing my intrest. Ok 1:44 and theres something. This is weird though. Ok 3:00 now. I dunno I just felt like this one was kinda boring. I suppose it's a good dancish arrangement and all. Maybe I just expected too much after dan voting yes. YES, but i feel dirty for it.
  11. Disco hit up the big technical problems with this one. I think with some work this could really be awesome. Does this sound like it was recorded in a big open room to ya'll? WHOA WTF WAS THAT AT 3:00?! omg. D: That was unexpected. But yeah, that first 2:59 had some neat stuff going for it. But as it is now, NO
  12. I'm really digging the arrangement. Very solid sounding. But yeah, there are some very not cool instruments being used in here that just kill it. If this was done in 99 like they said I'm sure they've got something they can touch this up with now. Maybe as far as better hardware or whatever. And yeah, those crickets are making me nervous. Man i'm torn. I really do like it. It's just such a solid sounding mix, despite those nasty patches every now and then. yeah, sure, what the hell. YES
  13. Enjoyable sounds and textures, but just too short. I think others have summed this one up already. NO
  14. AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH WTF WTF *RIPS HEADPHONES OFF* OMG gah. Holy fucking shit that was loud. gah.. i canthear.. ... ok wtf. *sigh* Yeah this is basically a straight arrangement of the spc with higher quality instruments. I dont so much have a problem with that since it sounds pretty good its just that ITS SO LOUD. Are we all listening to the same remix? Cause this sounds like it's just clipping all over the place. I dont want to vote on this until it's re-encoded at a reasonable volume.
  15. Well I think this is pretty damn cool. But again that EQ is just funky. I wanna hear this resubmitted with some serious remastering, cause it'd just flat out rock then. NO, but please master this up and fix that ending
  16. Yeah, there is no reason for this to be on the judges forum. No ID3, no information on the song, and it's just like standard Creative GM patch set? Recorded poorly no less? It's a great little arrangement, but this just sounds horrible. Get some soundfonts and submit it properly and we'll talk. NO
  17. I can dig it. Yeah the recording is pretty lame, but a good piano arrangement is a good arrangement. YES
  18. Ok, so the drums are neat. The bass isn't bad either, but that lead instrument and the plucked and whatnot just arn't doing it for me. Seriously grating me the wrong way. They just feel wrong over the bassline. This could be very cool if, and I hate to phrase it this way, but "corrected". Not that they are "wrong", but I just dont think it sounds good :\ NO
  19. Sounds good to me. I can live with the single drumloopbeatingmyheadin sample since the rest of it is nice and breezy. YES
  20. holy shit. Dan said yes? Man, i wish I had some headphones with me here in the CompLab so I could listen to this thing. D: I'll see about voting on this and all 400 other mixes up for voting either tonight or this weekend once i'm finally free and home.
  21. Keep in mind that this was one of the older remixes on the site: Notice the OCRID# of 203. Back when this site was new it was a big thing to get ANY new content, so there are some real stinkbombs back in the archives of the site (Alas, i weep for Bad Tuna).
  22. Wheeee guitar samples. Sounds just like an oldschool S3M. I hope that was the intention I love the arrangement though. This is really fun high energy stuff. But the fact that that guitar sample is so lame really makes me sad. And then the end. Omg. I think i'm gonna cry Why do people make the monkey machine cry so much? This could be so cool if it just had better guitar bits and .. uh.. . an ending.. NO
  23. Yeah, the transitions are a little weak, but as sort of an ambient electronica track I think it's not bad. There are definatly things I like about this track, it's got a nice feel to it; reminds me of my own recent metroid track and my upcoming (gasp!) metroid track, but it still has a bit of an unpolished feel to it. The drawn out title theme in the intro and ending are nice, but the vocal clips (despite being clever in the reversal of peace and captivity) really just feel out of place. Smooth out those transitions and maybe kill the vocal clips and this is definatly OCR material. But as it stands now I think it would not do Provoker justice to post it. NO
  24. Yeah, i keep forgetting there is a metal band called Shai Hulud also. I probably wouldn't have said that if it had crossed my mind
