  1. Shadow of the Beast 'Dub' Beautiful. Trippy. Magic. Cutoff tweaking, reverb wetting, grainy floating synths and drum lines wander around inside your skull. Probably one of my all time favorite mutagene tracks.
  2. Metroid 'Samus Strut' Could I possibly love this remix more? Omg. The bassline is pure magic. It destroys innocent subwoofers and makes them it's bitch. Play dead. AmIEvil juxtaposes a laid back drum track with the wandering melody on a sinewave/flute sounding deal. If only this track was longer.
  3. Altered Beast 'Resurrection by Breakbeat' Rise from your grave! Hopefully death will have killed your ability to hear high pitched noises so you can hear this track like DJP does. (: Seriously though.. this track is very DJP. it's a great arrangement, it also lights up the spectrum analysis all over winamp, top and low. If there ever was a reason for 320kbit mp3s to exist, it would be so that DJP can abuse them. It's a fun techno arrangment with some slidy complex sounding synths, lots of res tweaking. You'll hear this lead synth in a few other DJP classics like Sailor Moon Rave Body.
  4. Final Fantasy 'Prelude (Refractive Mix)' Soft wind, and a nice echoing piano. This one starts out very promisingly. We've all heard the Prelude several hundred times. The 'amazing arpeggio of doom' sneaks in under a cold stabby synth and tries not to be too terribly obvious at first.. but it is, after all, our melody. A rock beat comes in to provide some support, shortly followed by a deep bass line. The drums give us a little break beat work and then the piano from the intro makes a reapperances with a bit of chuggy guitar stabs to give some depth. Pretty cool. Very nice use of a simple theme, without becoming annoying. *cough* pac-man *cough*
  5. Pac-Man 'Rave in the Mirror Maze' I really don't like the Pac-Man theme. It just makes me want to punch someone in the face.. This arrangement is kinda weird.. but it's rave music, so I suppose as long as it's got a steady tempo that's alright. I dunno. Go plur, or something.
  6. Turok 2 'Port of Adia Drummix' I've got seriously mixed feelings about this track. It's really hard to be too critical of it, because it's just such a fun theme.. Exciting and driving. The pizzicato strings just push forward so much, and simple rock beat drums give it a great action movie feel. Really gets me pumped up. But then it hits you.. The strings really dont sound that good, and the piano line is a bit tinny sounding. But it sounds so nice. The drums sound pretty good. Very solid. Give it a listen.
  7. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 'Dark World Jazz' Oh yes. This is great. The trumpet lead is a little too mechanical sounding, but the brushed snares and loose piano give so much underlying atmosphere that I'll forgive it. Gux covers the Dark World theme quite well, throwing a spin on it I wouldn't have expected. The improvish piano solo is a great interjection into this nice little track. Very cool.
  8. Tetris (GB) 'McVaffe Quasi Ultimix' Deceptivly starting with a slightly augmented original sample sounding lead line of this classic theme, this remix very quickly reminds you that McVaffe doesn't pull any punches. Swirly stabby synths lead up a filling middle that pauses for a moment to build up to piano interlude. Finishing in again in the original NES sounding lead this mix is fun, but a little quirky.
  9. Final Fantasy IX 'Melodies of Life (Arranged)' I'm a sucker for a piano track. What a wonderfully expressive instrument. Then take into account the excellent arrangement and soft string accompaniment and you've got nothing but smooth bliss. Very relaxing.
  10. Street Fighter II 'Blanka Braziliamix' I really dig this mix. The Brazilian flavor just makes me wanna howl and make electricity go through my skin for some reason. The instruments are wonderful, nice and crisp. Excellent work here. I really enjoyed it.
  11. I've been stuck on the final boss of Windows 95 for like two years now.. I've gotten all the secret items in IE, and unlocked all the Registry features. I even did the side mission where you rename the folders to get the easter egg, hoping to get an upgrade or something, but the Kernal keeps kicking my ass. Hell, I can't even get close to it yet. Does anyone have a save state or like cheat codes or something? I'd like to finally see the ending after wasting so many hours on it, because I admit defeat.
  12. Wow, that was nice. I enjoyed that quite a bit. Very smooth and soothing. Nice work. btw, i liked the coin song.
  13. Xenogears 'Bonds of Sea and Fire' A nice arrangement of light soothing sounds mixed with a slightly heavier drum line. Solid arrangement and nice instrumentation. Pretty cool.
  14. Final Fantasy VI 'Celces (Dance)' Straight up dance, with odd vocals bouncing around. The lead sounds kinda funny.. like a rapid fire steel drum or something, but it's a dance track so it works just fine.
  15. Frogger 'Frog Jam Stomp Box' This one kinda feels like it drags on for a long time.. Most of it consists of just a piano covering the melody, accompanied by a repetitive drum loop. In the last minute or so some bizarre sound effects mix in to give a bit of variety.
  16. Soul Blade 'Jazzer Soul' Excellent. Love the percussion line and the piano. Everything just melts together in a big puddle of You know i own you.
  17. Metroid 'Metro Trans Funk' Funky. Solid 4 on the Floor beats and sweeping cold pads and leads run back and forth against the thud. I'm not too familiar with the original theme, but the synth lines are very neat.
  18. Xenogears 'Broken Mirror Reflection' Wow. This one just blew me away. It's beautiful. The gapped vocals and sweeping cold pads mix with the throbbing bass line perfectly. The piano support under her voice just makes this a solid solid mix that I will sing along with (very poorly) any day. Excellent work on this one.
  19. Ork 'Portal' Mmmmm. trippy. Driving bass line and drums with a happy little chippy lead line dart all over this Amiga game remix. mutagene is my hero.
  20. Gun.Smoke 'Spaghetti Cowboy' Not really my cup of tea, but definitely well done. Nice brass sounds and a jaw harp make for a great little toe tapper. nice work.
  21. Super Mario RPG 'Bukki's Tango' You know, McVaffe has done a hell of a lot of remixes, but they are all so great how can you complain? McV tears it up again with this fun arrangement from Mario RPG mixing swirling woodwinds with a hard hitting drum line.
  22. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 'Jazz of Zelda' I remember it taking them quite some time to finally get this track to DJP. Something about the file host going down and not telling anyone. Glad it finally got through, cause it's such a nice arrangement of the Zelda theme. The drum line is a little static sounding in light of how loose the rest of the song is played, but regardless it comes out sounding pretty nice.
  23. Maniac Mansion '[go w*ld]' Zeratul gives us a short but dynamic version of the bizarre Maniac Mansion track with a throbbing, abused, filtered, cut, modulated bass line. interesting.
  24. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island 'Indian Ragga' Yoshi's Island was a pretty bizarre game... The sitar lead in this track sounds wonderful and a great blend with the other instruments filling in the rest of the sonic spectrum. Reminds me of something from Spyro the Dragon for some reason. That game had some excellent music.
  25. Final Fantasy VI 'Forever Rachel' Jaxx's very first track. I wish my first track stood the test of time as well. It's a little quirky, but still a fun little electronic arrangement.
