I think the overall contrast and saturation on the display itself is altered when you enter the high altitude snowy areas.

Yes.

Throw in the Portal 2 space sphere voice for good measure

Game is awesome, but the interface is awful, awful, awful. Especially the way the perk tree works, and how clunky/unresponsive the clicking is in general. Managed to pick a perk from a nearby different tree by mistake.

It was some security loophole that was already addressed a while ago, but Google has yet to unlist the site.

This is easily replicated in Synth1 by making a filter LFO and picking the random waveform, then have it retrigger on every key. Alternatively if you need more control you just tie the filter to velocity.

That's just a bandpass filter with cutoff and resonance changes.

Dubstep is the new Disco. Usually these types of things coming out of Britain don't get that much mainstream exposure internationally, like Drum n Bass and that short-lived 2-step fad in the early 00's. Dubstep on the other hand has eclipsed the world, to the point where even South Park felt compelled to parody it. It's being run into the ground and the bubble is bound to burst at some point. Case in point: Justin Bieber is doing Dubstep. The only thing that surprised me here is that he beat Madonna to it.

Each new GTA has gotten successively less tongue-in-cheek since the third ones. This one will probably end up feeling dull and taking itself too seriously. I think Saint's Row captures the spirit of the original games better these days.

Love the concept of this thing. I also love the sound of old wavetable synths. I think I will probably end up using this in a lot of things.

Good example of the ugly side of "indie" (which it technically isn't, since it's being published by Interplay):
-
I'm bothered by the whole thing being rebranded under some type of marketable buzzword (just like DLC). Nowadays it feels like a lot of these "indie" devs try to make their games seem artsy or strange just for the sake of it. Small, independant games have existed for about as long as home computers have. And I've played them for as long as I've had a PC. Some of my favorites from the 90's were and Dink Smallwood. The PC Gamer CDs were usually stuffed with great small games in the shareware folder.

Where's the second part of that Sonicstate video? Navigating the website is a mess.

Game addiction is a complex subject as said in the first episode, and I think it'd definitely take more than 2 (3?) videos to cover it more deeply. In the case of typical MMO addiction my view is that it is almost exclusively the social element (ie, other people) that gets people hooked. You can have the same game elements in a single player game but it won't make many people spend such an absurd amount of time with it. I've played World of Warcraft since 2005, but I've never joined a "real" hardcore raiding guild. After looking at the general atmosphere, attitudes and expectations within those guilds it seemed like a totally unappealing way to play the game for me. And these things made me think about the actual reasons for people getting so hooked on the game. For starters, if you want to join one of those guilds you need to send in a written application which is taken just as seriously as a job application. Within the community you'll find the same things found in real life situations. A social hierarchy, peer pressure, etc. You want to feel respected by your fellow guildies, contribute, make sacrifices for the group, and so on. At this point it becomes less about the game itself and more about living up to the expectations of your peers, something people generally tend to care about very much. This stuff is also why you can see so much drama within those guilds. Over the years Blizzard has changed the game several times to be less time consuming and allow you to progress and build your character at a decent rate without having to play so much. But these kinds of hardcore players will simply compensate for that and find other ways to spend the same amount of time they always have. There's really not much a developer can do besides draconian measures like they have in China. The problem in my eyes is much moreso the player-nurtured culture, rather than some evil conspiracy by the developers. -
Richard Joseph (Cannon Fodder, Barbarian etc) died a couple of years ago from cancer.

Check out any official game/developer forum and it's basicly the same.

I've tried Sylenth1 a bit, didn't see anything that made it stand out from all the other regular synthesizers out there. Vanguard has a lot more character to it.

I don't think the type of audience I'm talking about really cares as much about those things. -

I think there's been a significant change in the overall handheld electronics market since the rise of Apple, smartphones etc. A big portion of Nintendo's handheld demographic has been children. But now the parents of these children have become pretty savy on these things, so why buy a 3DS for their kid when they could buy them a more serious and practical device that also plays Angry Birds? Makes you wonder what this means for Sony. Nintendo has always made very cost effective hardware, and they are more than capable of taking a financial hit like this. But Sony is obviously investing a lot into the Vita by both making it very powerful and selling it at a low price.
