... Oh yeah, that's right. *slaps forehead* .

Stupid Windows! I had my response typed then IE crashed and I lost it! Condensed version: I like it, but no. Prot's right, it's over the limit (even if it is only .03). Lower your bitrate and I'll say yes. No, I don't care that I'm being an anal asshole (redundancy unintended). This is an edit. This vote has been changed to "Yes".

OCR00810 - *YES* Ultima 6 'Gates of Creation'
Antonio Pizza replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
You know what? I can't decide. I'm leaning towards no for the reasons given by Protricity. It'd REALLY help if I could hear how the original goes. The "minimalistic" styling of this song implies that it doesn't stray to far from the original. I need to compare and contrast... Pretzel, if you could give me this nice gentleman's email addy or pass along the message yourself, I'd greatly appreciate it. Especially since this song is close to passing. -
*NO* Chrono Trigger 'Brink of Insanity'
Antonio Pizza replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Sorry Starky. The guys are right. There's no real change from the original other than the breakbeat laid on top. You gotta mix it up a little more. You know...remix? No. -
*NO* Super Mario RPG 'Booster Seat' *RESUB*
Antonio Pizza replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
I yoinked it and it still sounds like a MIDI GM soundbank. The notes are still off key in places and it cuts off at 2:01. Not ends...CUTS OFF. NO!!! I don't know what software/hardware you used BitMaP, but I believe you need to invest in some new tools. Seriously, man. Your heart's in the right place, but your ears are in outer space somewhere. -
OCR00800 - *YES* Chrono Trigger 'The Trial in Concert' *FT*
Antonio Pizza replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
Why are we even reviewing this? Yes. It's insanely cool. -
Holy crap that was amazing! I've always loved both Booster's Tower themes and this is a great rendition of the one yet to be posted on OCR. "Submitted with pride," he says. And you should be! Minus the parts that are a bit off key, this is one of the best MIDI interpretations of Booster's Tower that I've ever hea.... wha? What's that? This isn't a MIDI file? It's an Mp3 Oh, no.

Why are we even voting on this? No.

*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'Endless Mine Endless Party'
Antonio Pizza replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
On the contrary. I wouldn't find him guilty of sticking too close to the MIDI because the MIDI is a damn near exact interpretation of the original. So he's actually quite faithful to the original tune. Does it prove repetitious in the remix? Possibly, but the adlibs DarkeSword throws in around 1:10 help to break it up a little. That part is in neither the MIDI nor the .gym. Besides, how repetitious can the song be? It's only a 2¼ loop! The title of the song sets you up for the mood of the song. I'll concede that it does sound similar to the MIDI in terms of those bongos that play in the background, but to listen to all three (.gym, MIDI, ReMix), you can feel the mood evolve from a kind of lighthearted spooky, to a bouncy interpretation of such, to a disco dancing song. Yet and still, my vote stands but it matters not since I am now in the minority. *Locking thread* http://www.zophar.net/gym/s3andk.rar (track 47-EndlesMine.gym) -
*NO* Sonic the Hedgehog 3 'Endless Mine Endless Party'
Antonio Pizza replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
I didn't see what was so bad with the song. I've always loved the Endless Mine theme and was thrilled when I saw it had been ReMixed. Yes. Incidentally orky, this song was orginally posted in the old reviews forum before it was converted into the WIP forum. That's why it probably sounds/seems familiar. -
OCR00787 - *YES* Mega Man 4 'Shades of Blue' *FT*

OCR00787 - *YES* Mega Man 4 'Shades of Blue' *FT*
Antonio Pizza replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
Hmmmmm....I needed to go back and grab the .nsf for this one, specifically to see what Prot was talking about when he mentioned "rockin fast paced" vs. "soft groove". I really didn't see that as a problem. I think that tempo/style changes can add a lot more to a song if pulled off properly. I kept picturing 2100 A.D. from Chrono Trigger everytime I listened to this. I must be the bassline. The samples sound like they were obtained from an .SPC soundfont though, don't they? But that's not enough to refuse the mix. .SPC based songs have been posted before (i.e. Engineer Cid (Factory Mix) which I gave 9 slices to), so I can't use that as an excuse. It's just, damn...I can't help feeling like this song belongs in a SNES remake of MM4 or something. *listens again* It's so short...but that keeps it from getting repetitious... Well... screw it. Yes. It's good enough. -
Damn. I really wish he hadn't lost the original file. I'm afraid he'll have to start over on this one. Granted, it's really good but it's too incomplete. Like the others said, it seems more like a WIP than a finished song. A bassline wouldn't hurt, but it ain't required. Painful as it may be, I'm gonna have to say no to this one. (I bet I'll listen to this again 6 months from now and question why I ever turned this one away)

*NO* Pac-Man 'Pac-Man Eats Up All the Dots'
Antonio Pizza replied to orkybash's topic in Judges Decisions
No, and here's why. First off, I couldn't pick out Pacman in that song anywhere. Shael's MoMG was clearly a Zelda cover plus it was accepted waaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day (but that's a whole other argument by itself). Mario has no place in this song, but that's not the problem. The problem is that he shows up too freakin' much. That "OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY! OKAY!" makes me go . Yeah it's a catch tune, but so is "It's a Small World After All." If I started singing "OC ReMix Really Sucks" in place of the words in the Pacman song, you'd probably be singing that for the rest of the day too. Catchy isn't always good. Just ask the folks with a bad case of chlamydia. No, I'm not comparing this song to chlamydia, but both are something I could rather do without. Sorry NF9, better luck next time. -
Personally, I'd have been disappointed if at least one of you guys hadn't complained about the drums . I was expecting it. Here's what you probably didn't expect. Yes. *shrugs* I thought it sounded okay.

*NO* Final Fantasy 7 'Aeris Rearranged'
Antonio Pizza replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I'm kinda surprised at everyone's votes. Not what, but they voted, but why. I thought everything sounded great...except for the static. I figure that's a result of the encoded bitrate. I say bump the bitrate up to 128 or maybe even 160 (the song is short enough whereas you could get away with it). The only ONLY ONLY thing holding this back for me is the sound quality overall. I gotta say no for the moment, but if you can get that bitrate up, rest assured that this song has my vote (even if it is more "FF crap" ) -
No. Contraversial decision? Maybe, but the song isn't all that bad...other than a beatdrop strong enough to punch a hole through the moon. Tone that down considerably and you've got yourself a winner. Incidentally, I don't mind the fade out.

Malcos man, your comments had me rollin' . I can just picture you doubled over the keyboard crackin' up. And you know what? I was the poor fool listening to this with headphones! . And rob1, that was funnier than shit. "can't vote cause I'm dead" HA! Okay here goes: No. Specifics? If I have to lower my winamp volume 85% after 27 seconds into the song, that's a huge problem. I'm agree with Malcos. This has to be a joke or something. You don't do ID3 tags because you don't have software to do so? You have remixing software, but you don't have software (read: Winamp) to fix your ID3 tags? Let's not forget the submissions violations. Lazy or not, you're still supposed to fill in the ID3's AND give your mix a name. Don't leave it up to me, because I'll name it something you can't say in church. Not to mention that he TELLS us that there's an annoying instrument in there. If it's so annoying, why'd you put it in there? And lastly there's the quality. 96kbps? C'mon. Doesn't this seem suspect to you?

*NO* Top Gear 3000 'Freeway Freestyle'
Antonio Pizza replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I listened to the song a couple of times on Sunday, then came back to it today (Tuesday). Upon listening to it, I thought "Wow, this ain't too bad for a NES mix." Then I read that it's SNES mix... hmmmmmm. *listening again* I think I'd better get the original for comparision... *heads to Zophar's* Damn, no dice. They've got TG, but not TG 3000. I d/l'd it anyway, but the song in question isn't in there. *sigh* Oh well. I wanna say yes, because it's really not that bad, but I'd like to reserve judgement until I can get my ears on a copy of the original .spc. I have a funny feeling it really doesn't deviate from the original that much. Can any of you fellas help me out? -
*NO* A Boy and His Blob 'Empty Parking Lot'
Antonio Pizza replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I found myself having to go back and listen to Shael's other stuff to try and pinpoint his "style." All I have for reference are his Zelda and FFI mixes. Well obviously "Music of My Groin" is bit of an exception, so after listening to "Matoya's Hot With Destiny" I've got a good clue as to what Shael is capable of... Sadly, it's more than this . I know he said he was going for simplicity, but that's what kills it. The beat, the hihat, the synths, the song itself...everything is too simple. Shael's an accomplished remixer, so I figure he already knows what to do. This was an experiment, was it not Shael? -
The timing of the drums makes it sound like they were performed live or something. Does that make any sense to someone other than myself? It's like they're .0000000000000000001 of a second off. This song is...okay. It's kind of bland and empty though. It needs some reverb or something. I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help on this one. Sorry . If you've got some friends who can play instruments, I'd love to hear this live though. Gonna have to say no on this one. Send it back to us with some fix ups. The tune is kinda catchy and I'd like to post it.

First off, I'd like to say that I'm embarrassed. I've been flip flopping a bunch and haven't really kept my eye on the prize. I'd like to apologize to Legion303 for casting doubt on this song. I was perfectly content to stand by my vote until I read what rob1 wrote: That's who I've forgotten about. The people I'm supposed to be serving. I feel like a politician who outlaws hot dogs because he doesn't like them. There are still millions who do. I found fault with one little nitpicky part and cast off the song because of it. Believe it or not, I'm actually ashamed of my "no" vote. Yeah, it's repetitive, but I don't think that's enough to hold this song back. I'll let the reviewers complain about that. This song is still done in good quality, therefore I'm switching my vote to yes. So as of now the votes are: Matt: Yes. Tim: Yes. Daniel: No. Stephen: No. Rob1: Yes. Rob4 (me): Yes. 4 yes/ 2 no. Indeed. Sorry 'bout that Pretz, Steve, fans. *drops a 1,908 paper roll on his leg*
