Best thing about FFX HD will be High Def Lulu cleavage.
-
It's a good point that I think we established earlier with fewer words. Yes, Square Enix is taking the easier route by choosing FFX to port in HD. I think Crowbar Man is right on the money. Given how quickly it will be played (december) coupled with the fact that we had heard absolutely no inkling as to its existence before TGS AND that no screens have been shown makes me near certain it will be an HD port, a la the HD PS2 rereleases we've seen lately announced for PS3 (which the FFX rerelease will hit as well). Note, I'm not saying it's a bad thing this is a slightly improved port; I just wouldn't get my hopes up for a full overhaul.

3DS: Friend Codes on First Page, OMG THE THIRD DIMENSION

What the heck?! That's a heck of a price difference. The Wii version of MHTri didn't even cost that much. As for the peripheral, one thing to consider is that it transmits the control signals via IR port. A AAA battery should be able to last you a while. I also think these media outlets are being unfair in calling it ugly and judging it before getting a hands-on opportunity. I doubt many of the people blasting it for looking unwieldy have even seen it in person. I've seen some photos of it that show the back triggers and it not only looks comfortable, but somewhat sleek. -
I think it's worth noting here that these types of re-releases are likely NOT on equal ground when it comes to how much effort go into them. I'm not sure it should be a worry that Square is wasting energy slapping pretty textures onto a PS2 game, as opposed to if they were going back to the drawing board and redoing the engine from scratch. Granted, I do feel your pain about it not being a completely new game. I wouldn't be nearly as excited about the new 3DS Fire Emblem if it were just another remake of an NES FE.

Yeah I'm kind of irked by the terminology for what I'm thinking will be a game in the vein of the ICO/SotC, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill "HD Collection"-type 'enhanced port' category. I tend to think that an exemplary game worthy of the term "remake" is Resident Evil for the GameCube or Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, where it's an old game rebuilt from the ground up. Metroid Zero Mission is another example of a definite "remake". I'm comfortable calling Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver remakes because they don't use the same engine as their original releases. The recent Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D is in 'enhanced port' territory. The game, being one of the first of Nintendo's 3D endeavors benefits greatly from the upgrade, but pretty much all they've done is retextured the game. And please don't get me wrong, I'm very very pleased with OoT 3D. We'll see what this FFX thing turns out to be. My money is on 'enhanced port'. After all, didn't Square say it would take like a million (30-40) years to remake FFVII (granted, that was a PSX game but work with me here).

Yeah, but this one is more like... Cowboy Bebop. *flame shield on!* Now it's reminding me more of Final Fantasy Tactics (A/A2,) so I think it's growing on me. :3 -

Looking at that Fire Emblem promo reel, I'm not digging the anime style for the character portraits. Reminds me of when Castlevania used anime-ish portraits in Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Run; it bothers me but the games ended up far outweighing that distaste with fun and awesome. I'm sure the new FE will be a similar case. I would've LOVED if they had used the art style from the GBA and GCN/Wii games. And about Monster Hunter, I think having two big MH games on 3DS will help things. Not sure how well received MH Tri on Wii was here in the US, but at least the 3DS is getting high profile games in MH3G and MH4 (hopefully both will reach North America). More games can't hurt. People complaining that these new MH games aren't for the original PSP (I know you love it, Japan but the system is almost 7 year old) are morons. Bitches gonna bitch. -

NEW FIRE EMBLEM COMING TO 3DS! Truly my favorite part of the 3DS Conference that just transpired. And it's looking more and more like there will be no partners in Paper Mario. I didn't see any indication, anyway. Also, MEGATON! You can sit on tree stumps in Animal Crossing. -

Man, I wish the 3DS "enhanced port" of Tale of Two Towns was the same price as the DS version... and came out on the same day. It's 10 bucks more. DS one comes out this month (9/20) while the 3DS one comes out next month (10/11) but it is presented in higher resolution to fit the 3DS screen and has 3D effects implemented, as well as StreetPass features. I really want the 3DS one though. Also, if you're into the Rune Factory games (I recently got really into RF3 on the DS,) Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny hits the PS3 and Wii on 9/27. -

I'm pretty sure the 3D effect isn't as extreme as things looking like they're coming out of the system. I pretty much am in the same boat you're in; it just seems to add a little depth to the images. At first, my eyes were weirded out by the dual images, but now I have no problem playing in 3D for fairly good stretches. -
PSP, GBA, DS game recommendations for long trip

Can't go wrong with Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. And I'd easily recommend the GBA Zelda (Minish Cap) over the DS ones. Other than that, looks pretty good. Have a safe trip. -

Perhaps not precisely 3DS news, the Nintendo Channel on Wii updated with a downloadable demo of the DS game, Kirby Mass Attack. Seems like a pretty fun little game from what I got out of the short demo. I thought I'd be turned off by the touchscreen-exclusive control, but it feels pretty good. Check it out! The actual game comes out on the 19th. -

To clarify: Excitebike was released under the '3D Classics" brand which, so far, includes 3 games: Xevious, Excitebike and Urban Champion. These are classic NES games upgraded with a 3D effect. These are separate from the NES Ambassador Program games recently released, which were only given away FREE to those who had used their 3DS to access the eShop before a certain time on August 12th. In addition to these 10 free NES games, Nintendo will give away 10 GBA titles before years end. None of the Ambassador Program games feature 3D at this time. -

Get out. But seriously, no, they're not in 3D. Another thing, I'm totally enjoying Zelda II (even though I keep dying.) I'm on the Island temple and I'm -THIS- close to beating the Jousting Knight. Zelda II truly is the best of the NES lot. -

I'm merely ranking Mario vs DK to be the least desirable game of the 5 known Ambassador Program GBA titles. I own the game and, while I did play and beat it, I didn't get into it to the point where I'm happy it's taking up a slot in the free offerings. I'm saying: If Mario vs DK is the worst we get, we're fine. -

Well, the weakest gba Ambassador title I can recall is Mario vs DK, and I ended up buying that one. I'm hoping for WarioLand 4 and maybe Fire Emblem? = ] -

The last five NES games for the Ambassador Program are Metroid, Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link, Wrecking Crew, Yoshi, and NES Open Tournament Golf. To refresh your memory, the first 5 NES AP games were: Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Jr., Balloon Fight, Ice Climber and The Legend of Zelda. -
Not to stir the pot again but, if people would leave project management to the project directors (as the mods have asked people to do, repeatedly), we'd have a little less drama around here.

Happy birthday to the man who introduced me Homestar Runner (you know, when there were like 8 SB emails and before it got all popular) and awesome Mega Man remices!

Well that's certainly a bummer, if true. Not just because I already own a 3DS but because low early adoption has apparently caused them to shift the platform in a different direction. Dettachable analog stick? Um, how's that gonna work. If this is just a false rumor then it's doing damage to potential 3DS sales (even after the price drop and upcoming game releases) since some people will be holding off on buying a 3DS til the new iteration comes out. We'll see. -
I like the name. :3
