OCR01129 - Sonic the Hedgehog 2 "Dream Pipe"
Navi replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice new mix from Darkesword, who has graced OCR's front page many times in the last couple of months. This mix lives up to his standard with some very nice beats and synths and a flowing vibe that comes across well to the ears. The piano is excellent, with just the right effect. The drum beats are energetic and up lifting; the mix is very optimistic overall. Personally, i didn't like the original very much, but this mix is very well done, and very well recieved. My personal favorite section begins at 2:00. I love the drums. As for Mr. Ansari's recent ascent to the status of Judge, congratulations (again)! If anyone in recent months has done anything to deserve that, it's you. -
OCR01130 - Final Fantasy VI "Squaresoft Variation"

Very nice orchestral work. The Epic feel works well with this theme. I really dont have much to say about this peice. Apparently I am the only person on these boards who hasnt played a Jeremy Soule composed game, so i have no previous knowledge of the name. This mix is beautiful, well arranged and well produced. I really dont see any problems, and in all true honesty (given the nature of the mixer) i dont expect any simple issues like clipping to be apparent (unlike certain people's mixes ). I don't see where any arguement can be made against the quality of this mix. Nice, nice work, sir. -

OCR01125 - Astérix (NES) "Niggaz 4 Life"
Navi replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Yay, this mix finally gets its due. I have had it on my computer for the longest time, and i was hoping that it would get on OC, but the language on it made me wonder if it would pass under the eye of the Pretz. This song can be defined in one word: slick. Every rhyme that Zyko spits is like a jem; every second of the track that Ubik created is a jewel. This song is everything and the kitchen sink. From the kick ass raps to the pitch changing vocals, to the hilariously ironic chorus to the shout out at the end, this mix kicks ass. There is no way i can deny the excellence of this song. I have figured out about half the lyrics just from listening to it constantly (it has not left my playlist since october) and they just make me laugh like a maniac. As a rap fan, i can attest that the rapping is smooth and flowing, like fine water. Weed, you are a lyrical poet. Ubik, i look forward to more of your mad genius. To take a track like that and make it into this! I can say no more. Excellent work. -
Nice stuff! Another FL user that proves his mettle. This mix is a beautiful string orchestral mix that never loses its audience and reminds me of the BG music to the wonderful show Pirates of Dark Water (ergh, or any other pirate show). This mix is cinematic and grandoise, filled with all the pomp and frill that any good orchestral mix should have. The precussion fits in well; the orchestral kit makes good sounds (although that cymbal crash started bugging me slightly towards the end of the mix). Still, this is well produced, well arranged and well met! It never loses the audience, and it keeps the sense of excitement and adventure alive throughout the whole mix. Nice work!

As it stands, i think i can do it by myself at this point. It might take a few days (70something pages) but i will do my best. I am debating, should i give the answers credited? ie: Beatdrop says....., Starla says.... or do a plain Q: A: Anyways, i will try and do it first, then go back and catagorize them after i am done. -

Or record all the important Q+A's already given, delete all the posts, edit the first post and post the list of Q's and A's so people can see what has already been answered before they post something new. Could that work? -
OCR01118 - Final Fantasy X "Guardian's Sending"
Navi replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This piece manages to bring about the emotion of the game without having to listen to all the annoying nasal monologes of the main character. The one thing i really loved about FFX, and it is not my favorite FF by far, was how well the music and the imagery brought out the emotions of the game, a task that the horrible voice acting failed to do. To Zanarkand is probably the reason i was most interested in the game when it first came out. This mix combines the themes well, to create a suble, emotional piece that makes good use of some nice guitar (the opening reminds me of the softer music from Trigun and Cowboy Bebop) and a nice string sample at :30. Another highlight for me was the entrance of the strings at 1:20. Nice and full. Joins in well. The biggest problem i had was that the mix stopped and started again when switching themes. It sounded nice, but it didn't flow. Still, its not even a big problem for me. Just pointing it out. This sounds wonderful. It has that epic cinematic feel and a beautiful sound. 95/100. -
By the way, Gecko. I love that stab & hit pack. Very useful.

OCR01114 - Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix "4F73R M3"
Navi replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
There is something wonderful about hanging out with your friends at a bad pizza joint in suburban maryland and crowding around the DDR machine, watching two friends duke it out for almost an hour. I might suck at DDR but the energy of the game is dispersed around to the spectators as well, which is why it is so fun and so popular. The music of DDR is filled with energy and fun. That much said, I love SGX's mixes. As for MC's piano at the beginning of this mix, it is cold as ice, beautiful and fills the time in perfectly leading up to the song, which i have to say, is pretty damn cool. SGX's lyrics fit the hard beat perfectly. The song itself is a perfect DDR mix. I cant say much against this. My personal favorite part being :20, when the main song comes in. Great work. This will be on my playlist for some time. -
Ok, this will be a shot in the dark, but oh well.. I'm looking for any sort of soundfont that would be used in rap music. Perhaps even any suggestions for what i could use to make the sounds. I am looking for something like the screaming nasal sound in that House of Pain song. The one that plays through the entire song. Or even some cool bass to use, or some nice sound effects. Anything. i know this is a very vague request, but I need better sounds for my rap songs, and any bit of help would be appreciated.

The arpeggiator? Turn it off. Go to the instrument's info screen, and go to functions...i think...and then go to the arpeggiator info and switch it to off. or if you mean you want it to stop after a certain point, cut its time down. make it a half note instead of a whole note or something similar to that. Other than that, i cant think what you mean. If i am reading your question wrong, sorry. -
Damn it! is it a wind chime? Wow.... I have about five hundred of them at my work...

I need a..."sparkle" sound. I dont know how to do it, or what you use to make it, but it is used in some adult contemporary music, and it is used in the opening of songs or measures. Does anyone know what i am talking about? IE: Kaijin's timeless heart on Vg ( http://www.vgmix.com/song_view.php?song_id=312 ) has it at about 9 seconds. The sparkle sound. How can i do it, or are there Sound fonts for it....

This from the site..... 35 more dollars??? And what does it mean when it says will only work UNDER FL Studio. Does that mean it will work on all versions under it (i run 3.56) or only on FL Studio, cause that sucks. I dont want to have to upgrade and then buy it...thats much more money spent. -

Thanks, Xel. That makes me mad. I paid a nice chunk of my meager paycheck to actually purchase the program, and it's like buying Windows but then having to pay to use the Start menu (bad analogy). Do i buy it from the FL site? My fruityloops is installed on my non internet PC. Do i have to Download something to get it to work? How much does this cost? (Barrage of Questions. Sorry) -

This might have been asked before. sorry. Well i bought FL a while back and it irks me that i still can't save with Soundfonts. It is very annoying to have to replace all the soundfonts with "sample" just to save, and then have to put all the soundfonts BACK when i reopen it. Is this normal? Is there a way around this? -
http://soundfonts.darkesword.com/ I love you ten times more now. You have squidfont.

Sorry for this one, but where can i get Squidfonts?
