I just got back from seeing it. I thought that this one, unlike the other four, was very well done. Unlike # 4, which seemed to be made from cliffnotes of the book, this one left out all the right stuff, kept in all the right stuff, and made all the right changes to make it work on screen. Umbridge was brilliant. Luna was brilliant. The entire movie was very well done, and is in my opinion the best movie in the series by far.

Absolutely mind-blowing, both in composition and execution. -
Civ 4: Baba Yetu (Taucer's vocal debut!)
Geoffrey Taucer replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
No pan flute, but two irish whistles; a high one and a low one. The vocals were inspired a bit by the Lion King OST. EDIT: though actually, I have a pan flute that I may end up working into this. -

Remixing - How is it done?
Geoffrey Taucer replied to Legion Kreinak's topic in Music Composition & Production
Are you asking where the ideas come from or how we go about actually executing them? Answer to the first question: Ask ten different remixers this, and I bet five will give you completely different answers, and the other five (inlcuding me) will say "I have no idea." Answer to the second question: there are many ways to do it, and it varies a lot from person to person. How much money are you willing to spend? If you want to do it for free, there are free programs (modplug, noteworthy composer, synthfont, audacity, and others) and free samples (www.hammersound.net) that will help. If you want to do it for cheap (relatively speaking), FLStudio seems to be a good place to start. I've never used it, but it's popular and I've heard some top-notch remixes done with it. In the higher range are programs like Sonar, Cubase, Reason, etc. As for hardware, it really depends a lot on how you're going to go about remixing, and it varies a ton from person to person. Some (but not all) find it easier to use a midi controller. Some (though not many) use full-blown keyboard workstations. Some do it entirely by mouse. And then if you want to record live, that adds another set of expenses (mics, mixers, etc). Whatever your methods, it would probably be a good idea to invest in a decent soundcard. I've used an E-mu 1212M and a Creamware Scope Home card, both of which sound excellent but are a bit complicated and will probably scare the crap out of you if you're just starting. There are probably other people who could do a better job of giving reccomendations here. It would also be a good idea to get a decent set of headphones. Eventually, if you can afford them, good monitors would also be a worthy investment; however, good monitors are quite expensive, and generally require other gear (mixer and/or poweramp) as well. -
Latest version: http://h.xerol.org/f.php?f=500 ---------------------------------- http://h.xerol.org/f.php?f=434 Baba Yetu from Civilization 4. Still pretty rough. Funny story about this one: I met Christopher Tin in person at VGL and told him I was working on this (in fact, I hadn't started on it, I just had the idea for it), and he said to e-mail it to him when I'm done. So I figured I should probably actually get started on it and get it past the idea stage. This was originally planned to be a collab with Polar, though he seems to have dissappeared off the face of the earth yet again. Hopefully he'll show up before too terribly long, and I'll still be able to work with him on it.

Need help with video encoding/compressing
Geoffrey Taucer replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in General Discussion
I'd prefer something free. I'm using Nero Vision right now. I have LAME installed, but it isn't giving me the option to use it in encoding. -
Got a new video camera for my birthday, took some videos with it I want to upload to youtube. The videos are too big, though; I'm looking for a program that can encode these videos into a smaller format. It would be nice if it also gave me options for audio encoding; since the sound isn't really necessary, I'd like to take it out entirely, but that doesn't seem to be an option on the program I'm using now.

Seconded on Guitar Suite. That's what I used for the electric guitars in all my mixes that are currently on the site. If you have the money to spare, Guitar Combos and Amplitube 2 are both absolutely worth getting.

Haha, thanks guys! I shall have videos uploaded (hopefully tomorrow) of what I spent my birthday doing

Holy shit. I met Christopher Tin. In the flesh. I even told him I was working on a mix of Baba Yetu, and he asked me to e-mail it to him when I'm done. Holy shit. Christopher Tin. -

Planet Puzzle League: The Ultimate Puzzle Game
Geoffrey Taucer replied to Bahamut's topic in General Discussion
There really are no pointers to give. There's nothing to it but to practice, and gradually your fingers and your pattern recognition will get faster and more accurate. -
Despite the fact that the game has an asshipping list of composers behind it, I'm really not impressed with any of the music I've heard so far. (except for the theme that was playing during the nintendo world trailer)

I love the new look. I wonder if this will be immediately followed up by a shiek profile tomorrow?
