  1. So I was finally able to sit down and watch the last episode and yes, I agree that the lesbian scene was over the top. Until that it seemed like they were staying acceptable close to the book though as far as the sex was concerned.
  2. In my opinion yes. I think you will enjoy the suspense that is created in the book much more and you'll appreciate what HBO is actually trying to adapt a lot more if you read the book first.
  3. Not that it justifies the sex and nudity, I understand that if it's offensive to people it's offensive; but again I think people should realize that the innuendo has actually been watered down from what takes place in the books. In just the first 2 episode if you compare them to the books: There is a brief sex scene between Eddard and Catelyn that is absent. The scene where Bran stumbles upon Jamie and Cersei is much more graphic. She is completely naked for one thing and he watches them shag a lot longer. The scene where Daenery's consummates her marriage with Drogo is way more tame than the books. She's 13 and she's crying. But as already mentioned previously in the thread, that kinda of shit just doesn't fly. Not even for HBO, so that was to be expected. I've seen comments on IMDB and some other places where people are mad because HBO is being unscrupulous by adding a bunch of dirty sex and nudity just for ratings. I guess my point is that, if they're trying to follow closely to the books, (which of course they are) they really aren't adding a bunch of smut to the story. If anything they're taking some out.
  4. Not that I'm aware of. Eventually they sold the rights for a content diluted version of the Sapranos though, so anything could happen. There is a lot of it but HBO actually isn't adding a bunch extra to the series like people might think. The books have quite a bit of sex in them and tons of references to nudity.
  5. This week's episode is really good. My only question is: Why aren't we seeing Jon Snow for two episodes in a row?
  6. I haven't read the this thread but I want everyone to know that Crisis Core almost made me cry. Almost.
  7. Jon should be getting Longclaw pretty soon and I like the way they are showing the friendship between Tyrion and Bronn developing. Very accurate to the books.
  8. Indeed. Things were a little faster paced in episode 5. I was glad to see them go back to the Hands tournament and show the joust between the Knight of Flowers and The Mountain. After the quick glimpse of the tournament we saw in the previous episode I figured they had cut it out. Sword fight between Jamie and Eddard was awesome.
  9. Gotta chime in and say that I'm also surprised that this turned out the way it did. I thought we would be hard pressed to meet the original goal. Really wish I could have helped more but it seems everything turned out ok.
  10. All is well. Just having a good time.

Yes, that post about elven hotties was suppose to have a huge undercurrent of sarcasm.

  11. Yeah, it's true. In truth it really has been an excellent adaption. Probably my biggest qualm so far is the way Theon Greyjoy is being portrayed in the series versus the books. On HBO he's being portrayed as sort of an insolent, creepy, discontented person. In the books he is portrayed as this ruggedly handsome but somewhat crude ladies man, that is actually shockingly loyal to Eddard Stark, considering he is his captive. He really doesn't have any problems with Robb, either. They enjoy one another it always seemed like to me. I won't say more because I don't want to throw out spoilers but... That would have been an easy thing to not mess up.
  12. Yeah Samwell's story is basically the tale of a craven but it does get interesting.
  13. My wish was granted, Ghost has been spotted.
  14. Jon is represented really well by Kit Harrington and for the most part his story is accurate and well scripted. The only thing that is lacking is Ghost and it's possible we will be seeing him in future episodes. Emilia Clark does a fantastic job playing Dany. The reason I say it is watered down is because in the book she is portrayed so much younger and she is forced into a barbaric marriage. Also, Viserys comes across a lot more cruel in the book.
  15. If anything Dany's story has been watered down, not intensified, for the series.
  16. Not really. They did a pretty good job with Lady's execution and with Summer protecting Bran and Catelyn from the assassin at Winterfell. Summer's scene was actually pretty awesome. He really is. Ghost, for a lot of the story is the mainstay of Jon's confidence when he's feeling forlorn in the Night's Watch. I don't expect Ghost to play the central role he does in the books or anything but for pity sake we haven't even really seen him at all.
  17. 3 episodes in and it they are still doing a great job keeping the story intact. They have somehow managed, though; to completely write Ghost out of the story and that bothers me.
  18. Started a week late and we have 2 days to spare. All hail the munificent lurkers!
  19. Welcome to OffTopic. Feel free to enjoy our little cesspool any way you like.
  20. It was just an ordinary evening. There was nothing peculiar or special about it. I was hanging out drinking beer in OffTopic like I always do and I supposed it would be the usual uneventful evening it always is as far as trolling some shit was concerned. I put my feet up on a nearby ottoman, raised the beer to my lips and swallowed deep. What happened to you OffTopic? You used to be so cool. I thought. I should start a thread. As I pondered troll worthy topics nothing came to mind. I glanced up on the web page and gave the PPR sub-forum a side long glance. "Oh fuck no!" I whispered to myself. There's no way in hell I have the mental energy for that tonight. Another beer could only help the situation. First I lose my job due to the economy slouching so hard and quickly. Then my best friend gets married, which cuts drastically into our hangout time. Soon I'll be out of beer again. And now even OffTopic and PPR are practically at a stand still. The world is on fire. I gently shook my head to myself. The room was dark save the middling glow emanating from my Dell notebook. As I began to get up I heard the faintest of noises coming from my open window on the far side of the room. "Is someone there?" I called out. No, there is no way. I know I'm home alone. At first I was sure my mind was playing games on me but as I stressed my eyes a little harder, I saw it! Eyes! A tall dark figure stepped out from next to the curtain and into the faint glow coming from my laptop. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" I plead. He was wearing a ski mask and in his right hand he held what appeared to be a truncheon. Then I heard him speak. It wasn't the harshest of voices but it was intense and confident, "DJ sees you." "I'm sorry, I don't understa.." My voice trembled as his thick left hand found my gaunt throat. "We all see you. Understand?" I looked into his his forceful eyes but couldn't speak for fear. "It's fucking April! Understand!" He shook me fiercely and with Batman like speed placed the club against my cheek while his grip tightened lividly around my neck even more. "Yes, yes. I understand!" My words were rushed. "Good!" He pushed me back with a quick shove. I tried to continue, "But I don't have any mone..." He turned to the nearby coffee table and with a quick side swing of his cudgel he sent my tawdry vase flying against the wall in a million pieces all of them flying across the room and falling to the floor like so many pieces of glass and sand. He turned back to face me and pointed the blunt weapon at me, "April is almost over my friend. I give you four days." As he walked back to the window I reluctantly found the strength to speak again, "Who...who are you?" "My friends call me Jimmy. You will call me BGC." He stuck one leg out the window and turned to me one last time, "Four days Flare." and then he asserted with his club, "The Pretzel sees you." And he was gone. I finally remembered to breath. After gasping for air a few times I caught my breath. I returned to my computer and quickly checked on my Paypal account. "I hope this is enough." I said worriedly to myself. Please! Let this be enough. I sent it all. Srsly though, love this place. Glad to help what little I can.
  21. I suppose I could have had Game of Thrones somehow in the thread title.
  22. Well I will confess that I prefer to see the other parts of the story more than Dany's. I just felt quite a bit more sorrow for her character in the book than I am with the series.
