  1. Wow! This is great. Wish it was a bit longer. But man, I think I am pretty useless in terms of giving feedback at this point, you obviously know what you are doing. This is great, so just finish it up and submit.
  2. Great source. Really bad samples. I would say that the rearrangement factor is not really strong enough for OCR. You could compensate for it with good atmosphere and quality synths, but I don't think there is a single instrument you used in your mix that I liked. Definitely some good ideas, but you need to get MUCH better synths and sample. Sorry if I sound too negative. Great choice of source though.
  3. Palpabale, thanks for offering your perspective. I definitely agree with you that many ideas tend to run concurrently and independently. I will probably end up chalking it up to that. But I will definitely watch it and see if there are any specifics that match up. Thing is, it is possible that some will, but it will be only because of the eventualities that would emerge logically because of the set up.
  4. Great job! I like how this sounds and progresses like an actual dance tune. Nothing too crazy, but definitely a very fun track. Keep it up!
  5. A few months back I first heard about Shyamalan's new project - Devil. And now it has finally hit the movie theaters. From what I can tell, it is not really generating much buzz, but to me it is the most anticipated movie of the year. Let's go back to 2002. I am in college. Two of my friends and I, while hanging out, decide to come with some ideas for a more or less unique script. One of my friends actually did some acting in small local projects and knew people involved in the business. Now, we are talking really small time, no one too big or famous. So, we are trying to come up with an idea that would be unique, clever, yet easy to shoot on an extremely low budget. After some time we finally come up with a story. Several perfect strangers find themselves trapped in an office building elevator, and while waiting to be rescued discover that they are all connected in some way and most of them have done really bad things in their lives. However, one of the passengers in not what he seems to be. He is the angel of death. Judging people as they interact with each other. In the end, all but one are dead, some realize the error of their ways, some don't, and the one who survives is given another chance. We wrote the script, revised it a few times, and then started sending it around to see if anyone would be interested in financing the project. We had a little bit of a hard time finding someone who was interested, at least in the project in its original form. One local TV producer thought that it could sell if we remade it into a TV series that would be something like a more edgy Touched by an Angel kind of thing. None of us really liked that idea. So after a while our personal priorities started shifting a bit, and we gave up on it. Fast forward to 2010. I read about Shyamalan's Devil. I have this very confused feeling of joy and anger. I get in touch with my college friends, who are now scattered across the US. And we all agree that the concept of Devil sounds very similar to our project. Now that the movie is out, and I have read up on the plot and the spoilers, I have to say that while the details are not necessarily the same, the basic plot, some of the characters, and the development of the story are quite similar. As much of a skeptic as I am, it just seems that similarities go beyond mere coincidence. Why am I posting this here? Not sure. Probably want to hear what people here think. Am I crazy? Or does this whole thing seem a little suspect?
  6. "How about your focus? What happened to banding together and saving the world?" LOVE IT! Been listening to it a lot!
  7. Sorry if for some reason you won't like the analogy, but this reminds me of Samurai Champloo soundtrack. It's great, awesome, love it. Great production and atmosphere. Can't comment on the arrangement but everything else is great. This is going on my playlist!
  8. First of all, let me say that this great. I would say that if you were not looking for this track to make it to OCR, I wouldn't really have any comments. This sounds like an oldschool trance tune. However, if your intention is to submit, there is quite a bit of work to be done. Your synths are almost there. The leads just need to be made a little fuller and perhaps you need to add a little bit of movement to make the lead more interesting. Your bass sound is too lo-fi, so that will need to be fixed. Kick drum needs to have a lot more presence. Clap needs some layering and extra processing. In general, drums need some additional percussive elements to spice them up a bit - 4/4 with only basic elements gets boring after a while and is frowned up by the judges here. To be fair, most modern trance producers to take the extra effort to have more than just kick, a pair of hihats, and a clap in their tracks when it comes to percussion. And personally, I would like to hear a bit more compression. Can't comment on arrangement as I am not familiar with the source.
  9. It's really more glitch/experimental electronica than acid house. Not a bad start. The idea is definitely good, but this mix needs quite a bit of work. I am going to echo Rozovian's comments and say that synth design is very simple and lo-fi. Drum/percs sequencing seems cool, but these are also way too much on the lo-fi side. I don't think you can get away with that, since your remix is not really a densely arranged nostalgia-invoking chiptune. You definitely need to beef up your arrangement as well, it is pretty sparse as it stands. Even if you improve your synths and overall sound quality, there is not much going on in the mix for a while to make it interesting. But the glitching here and there, the darkish tone, and the vocal sample make this WIP stand out as having potential. Keep at it!
  10. Well, you are kind of right. There are some allusions to the theme, as well as the intro, but the main melody has not yet been introduced. I made the main melody into a trance arp but haven't really arranged all the other parts around it, so decided against including it in the WIP at this point. But since you insist, here is the arp: EDIT: Also, I would prefer if you would "critique", rather than "criticize". Let's be constructive!
  11. I guess you have to be a cat person to truly appreciate it. Otherwise, a total waste of valuable time.
  12. What the others said. But wow, that source is awesome. Love it. It is actually pretty repetitive on its own, but damn its catchy. Might actually remix it myself! EDIT: Hmmm. There isn't really much beef to this track to remix it. There is really not that much in terms of melody. Move on and pick something else.
  13. OK, so here is another remix that I might revive and work on. This is more or less just the intro, but trust me, there is a pretty kick ass arp that will be incorporated in there once I decide to finish it. I think I actually wrote the arp first. Anyhow, share your thoughts! EDIT: Now v2:
  14. Only familiar with the source because I really liked Siamey's version. Glad I checked this remix out - arrangement is not very dense for the most part, but I really like the feel of this remix. The bass is awesome, love it. Awesome work!
  15. I don't usually do this, but here is what is going to be my next submission to OCR. Just looking at the queue of remixes (some have been there since Jan), I might as well post it over here for now. I might still change the name.
  16. I am so NOT excited about this.
  17. Possible spoiler below. Adamantium dude - thanks for agreeing with me. I also enjoyed the movie, but was just really disappointed with how the dreams turned out. Event the promo posters suggest that this is what was going to happen. Alas... LAOS - you don't need go all out Paprika or Dr. Parnassus to make it feel dreamlike - just add lots of little details. Just make normal things seem off, just a little bit, where it becomes weird. I am sorry, but all we get a closed loop and slightly altered physics? Whoopie! Oh, and the movie concept is not new by any means. Have you guys not seen The Cell with J-Lo? At least that movie got trippy visuals right, even if the acting and the plot were lacking. This movie had a budget of like $200m? I am sure Aronofsky could have done it for twenty... EDIT: Sorry for bringing Aronofsky into this...
  18. Just saw it. Definitely a good movie. I was on the edge of my seat for a good part of it. I also like how you really had to pay attention to details to really follow what was going on. Stop reading at this point if you don't want spoilers, I will try to keep it spoiler free but just in case. However, I think I am going to be in the minority but - for a movie that is about one's dreamworld, I can only describe its imagery as sterile. Boring highrises, beach,.. erm... wait. That is it! Those are the only settings you pretty much get to see. None of the settings are particularly dreamlike. Even the trippy clever effect introduced at the beginning of the movie never really come to the forefront or get used in a way that has any kind of impact. And for being in a dream, the characters are still very much bound by normal laws of physics, with very few exceptions. Even 'projections' act like normal people. Unlike some other movies that ask you to suspend disbelief, this one asks you to suspend imagination. Now, some might think this is not fair, but to me, this movie was more Vanilla Sky than the Matrix. It was good. Just not great. And by far not groundbreaking in any way. So lets not blow it out of proportion, shall we? EDIT: Nolan is great at grounding a fantasy world in reality, as he has done in Batman and Prestige. I just don't think he has the feel and imagination for creating fantasy settings.
  19. I'm not familiar with the source, but this sounds good to me so far. Still, I am not crazy about that brassy lead.
  20. Very very familiar with the source. What can I say, the last ten seconds are VERY interpretive, but the stuff before that, not so much. Just keep going in the direction of more interpretation and you will be on the right track. Because if the overall mood of the track is very similar to the original, as well as the arrangement, it is not going to go trough the judges panel.
  21. Should this really titled Sviridov's "Snow Storm" remix? Anyhow, sounds great so far. Great start you have here. Nice mastering. Very close in style to the actual game soundtrack, which may work for or against the mix if you intend to submit it, depending if the panel finds it endearing or not interpretive enough. I like it. But you gotta finish it!
