  1. Chrono Cross - to this date cannot listen to the ending theme, gets me emotional every time. Most recently MGS 4 - amazing game and story (even if it is cheesy and overly complex for its own good sometimes). As Strike911 said: "I think it was the emotional experience of witnessing all the drama from the characters".
  2. Loved the trailer. Great concept. Really hope this gets made.
  3. Very chill and pleasant mix that covers a rather catchy source tune. Good work!
  4. Just wanted to bump your thread, basically calling for others to provide more feedback on your wip.
  5. Sounds good to me. I like the interpretation, definitely good job on that. Not sure if you are going to submit or not. But if you are, I think that rearrangement is definitely there. One thing I am not sure about are the orchestral samples, not sure how the judges are gonna take them. Sometimes they can be really picky about that. All in all, good work!
  6. Not bad. I like the synths. The arrangement is not overly complex, but has potential. One specific bit advice - the intro section (the same section that repeats a couple of times through the remix) should probably be spiced up a bit, to make it more interesting and different from the original. Weak point - drums/beats. Everything else sounds nice and dancey trancey, but drums are lacking punch, mastering, pump, and pretty much everything else that makes drums good. Looks like you have a nice set of synth patches and good ideas, and that is a good start. This definitely won't pass as it is right now, but with some work could become a great remix.
  7. This is a good start. But there is not much substance to this mix arrangement-wise yet. I would much rather hear more of that, before making any additional comments.
  8. So glad that zircon finally decided to do something electro housey. It is a little less musically complex than most of zircon's mixes, and more focused on getting the contemporary sound - which is exactly what I was hoping zircon would do one of these days. Although, I would have been a bit happier if he did in the end sell out and go full on for a "boring" electro house remix. Electro or electronica, call it whatever you like, but this track is the closest thing to electro house that is on this site at the moment. While bLiNd did a good job on "Golbez N' Goblins", the source just doesn't translate well into electro. Probably my favorite new mix on OCR in recent memory. zircon, please make more mixes like this one!!!
  9. Good stuff. Just not very crazy about the vocal samples in there. Everything else is well done. Some people might complain that it's sparse at times, but to me it works just fine.
  10. Wow, this track is awesome! Definitely a standout remix of this theme. Love the guitar work, absolutely amazing, and the interpretation of the theme is great. Still, got some reservations. It wanders around too much for my taste. Rather than developing it kinda jumps around in different directions. They do flow, but as soon as I start enjoying the riffs and percs it jumps to something different. But it is a matter of taste. Maybe I just listen to too much progressive house/trance, which are all about repetition and slow buildup. Awesome job! Keep it up!
  11. Interesting start, but nothing really discernible from the source there yet, so it's hard to make any comments. You are more likely to get more responses in general if you have a more developed wip.
  12. Ok, so, this is kind of my cup of tea, even though I see this as a favorites thread in disguise. In any case, here are my recommendations: - Audition - Returner (not bad) - Brother (with Beat Takeshi) - A Trip to Karabakh - Oldboy (as mentioned by Skypo) - Ichi the Killer (not really obscure) There are many others, but none are coming to mind. I will add more when I remember. Also, looks like Man from Earth might be good (as recommended by Stan Burdman).
  13. Love the soundtrack to SOR and SOR2. This is a great source tune. I think the remix is going to have a hard time passing the panel. The decisions will definitely say that drum sequencing is simple and repetitive, drum samples are not great, piano samples sound fake, sequencing is a little robotic, beatbox samples might also come under fire. What makes this mix interesting is the addition of the acoustic guitar. However, all in all, this source was remixed in a similar style by mv (Sensual Ippon). And his mix was a little bit more polished. This is an enjoyable mix, something I would listen to, but not something that will end up on OCR.
  14. boyinaband.com has a good dubstep tutorial (their electrohouse tutorial has an example of a nice bass sound too). It is all done in Reason, though, so I am not sure how useful it is going to be for you. But you might wanna check it out anyways. If you looked at it already, ignore me. All in all, I like your track. I actually like the chiptune synths. When chip-tune elements are presented against solid beats and a phat bass, they can provide the kind of contrast that can work. So definitely pimp your drums and phatten up the bass. I also agree with the comment about dropping the bass at some point. Good stuff!
  15. Pretty cool. Though you could make your bass sound more "commercial". What software do you use?
  16. No Christmas theme layout? Lazy...
  17. This saddens me greatly. Definitely too young to die. There is so much more she could have done in her career. Really, really sad.
  18. Is this really arranged? Sounds to me like the original + intro pads and upgraded samples. Pretty much keeps the same mood and style as the original. As is, it is more a cover than a ReMix. As for production, halc already covered those issues, so I am not going to repeat what was said above. This is enjoyable, but will get No'ed. Definitely try to work on the arrangement. EDIT: For a second I thought I was crazy by not considering this piece to be arranged. But I guess after all the definition for arrangement I had in my mind was correct. Per wikipedia: "In music, an arrangement is either a rewriting of a piece of existing music with additional new material or a fleshing-out of a compositional sketch, such as a lead sheet. If a musical adaptation does not include new material, it is more accurately termed a transcription or orchestration." Before people hate on wikipedia, per Britannica arrangement entails musical liberty in elaboration.
  19. Big fan of your craft Skrypo! Awesome job, loved pretty much every track.
  20. Lucky for me, mods are slacking. Awesome work GY!
  21. Awesome comparison, definitely a stretch, but entertaining nonetheless. I was a huge fan of the movie and the book. The book is a little grittier and has a different ending, for those who want to look into it. Still, as much of a fan as I used to be, I think Fight Club lost some relevance in recent years - it was released in a time of relative prosperity, when one could be bored with a decent job and a fully furnished condo. Now, when a lot of people are struggling to find a job, this kind of frustration rings hollow. Still, Fight Club was a great film, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has not seen it yet.
