  1. My problem w/ Cartoon Network is that it's been trying to retain the same audience for the last 15 years. People grow up, they stop watching cartoons, so they introduce wacky/zany/fart humor live action shit to keep them hooked... But what I think happened is that people like me who were CN fans as teenagers or kids don't want CN to progress w/ us past a certain point (like adult swim was the beginning of the end, even though it was good for a while)... SO yeah... To me, current CN is kinda trashy... But who cares if I go back to watch it? If I do, I want them to try to appeal to the 15 year-old me (bright eyed, bushy tailed), not to the (cynical) me-in-college who eventually found better things to do than to watch non-cartoons on a cartoon network. There's a point where you gotta say... "Hey... we are the Cartoon Network... Not Comedy Central meets Nickelodeon" (in a bad way).

You're definitely right on about the weird live action shit that is on Adult Swim.

I think there's another problem with Cartoon Network, and it is something that isn't endemic solely to that channel. It's a problem with nearly all American animation since the early to mid 2000s: it's now almost solely focused on kids.

Example: Dexter's Lab, Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, etc were all shows that greatly appealed to kids. But I still enjoy watching them now, and I'm pushing 30. They have a lot of adult humor injected into every episode that goes over most kids' heads.

Better example: Batman:TAS, Batman Beyond, Samurai Jack, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Sym-Bionic Titan. All amazing shows, and kids could definitely enjoy them, but the themes were much better appreciated by adults. Not to mention some very adult jokes.

The new Thundercats show is pretty good, but it seems like the exception, not the rule (but it'd still be awesome if they ran an "uncut" version on Adult Swim in which Panthro swears as often as I imagine he would if it weren't airing on Saturday mornings).

Anyhow, I still have some hope for the return of Toonami. (EDIT: Obviously not hope that it will return, but that it will actually have some semblance of its former quality)

  2. Alright so it's may and some of the Second Wave titles are out. I haven't read Dial H for hero but I picked up Earth 2 and World's Finest and I have to say that these are some seriously good books. Earth 2 in particular is absolutely incredible. There's a great twist that sets up the premise of the world and the motivations for many of the characters, and Nicola Scott's art is like just brilliant.

World's Finest is a fun set up for a buddy-book, with Huntress's and Powergirl's contrasting personalities. Really excited about this one.

Yeah, I haven't touched Dial H for Hero, but I did pick up Earth 2 and The World's Finest. Both are pretty great so far. Nice tie-in with Mr. Terrific, too (I'm guessing he'll be coming out more as the series progresses, since his comic ended with him accidentally going to Earth 2).

Earth 2 wasn't exactly what I was expecting based on the cover art, but the alternate super heroes and origins are pretty interesting so far, and I think it'll be a great comic.

  3. Alright guys, first off, I REALLY apologize for the long period of radio silence lately. That's not really fair to anybody who's been anticipating this for so long, and really we've waited more than enough on these last few tracks.

So, I'll be chatting with Flexstyle (I've already spoken with Theophany) about getting a game plan together to finish this project within 2 weeks at the MOST, hopefully sooner. Not sure exactly how we're going to tackle these remaining two tracks but somehow or another, we'll get them wrapped up so we can move forward with the release of the project.

Thanks all for your patience and I apologize for being a sucky director as of late. Life's fallen on top of me and lately I've just been too busy to devote any time to the site. Now that summer time is here, I expect that to change substantially. Let's get this done, I'll be asking around shortly if we end up needing any outside help to get the remaining remixes finished.

I'm really excited to hear this. I've been waiting for this album for a loooong time, and I'll be eagerly awaiting its release!!

  4. I'm not sure where the WIP forum is (is that the workshop forum?). Anyway, I'm pretty done with it, though I may consider revisiting it in the future to make it a little more modern. My goal was to make it more retro than most remixes (or plain, if you will). I'll keep the critique I got in mind for future remixes.

If it's not allowed to post here, let me know, I'll move it elsewhere or to the wip forum.

Yep, WIP = Workshop Forum. One of the moderators may move this over there anyhow, but if you want to avoid that, you can always do it yourself.

Listening to the remix now, and I'm really digging it. I'm hesitant to call it "minimalist" because of the negative connotations that come along with it sometimes, but I actually really enjoy "minimalist" remixes. Thanks for jumping on this request! Hopefully, you do revisit it in the future so it could get posted on OCR!

  5. Can't get By Those Thighs: I definitely like this song, but there are few complaints. I didn't like your choices for lead sounds. Also, the song feel somewhat repetitive. Other than that, this is a fairly good track. Loved the ending.

Requiem for the Beerless: Again, a very good track for this round, and just like the last, comes with it's flaws. I think the piano was too soft, and couldn't hold the lead in comparison to the rest. The rave-y sounds near the end, around 3:20 or so, could've done well turned down, they overtake the piano at some points. But, I really like this track!

Gonna have to say Requiem for the Beerless - Ghetto Lee Lewis gets my vote!

Make sure you vote in the social group if you want your vote to count!!

  6. haha, well, it seems to be getting closer, hopefully it gets approved soon

Probably should have just put it up on my site ages ago, but it's so close now, I'll just wait it out

Ah crap, I just noticed that it was rejected by the judges. Could you post the link in the WIP forums?

  7. That's pretty true, but on a similar note, Cartoon Network did bring back
Planet hosted by Brak and Zorak and digging out some old Cartoon Cartoons, so I think the chances of them providing some quality programming would be pretty decent.

How was I not aware of this? Man, I just had a major flashback watching the trailer for Cartoon Planet.

What would be really cool is if they also played those old "What a Cartoon!" shorts that started all of the Cartoon Cartoons.

  8. The blame can all be put on the idiots in Atlanta that thought the Mooninites Viral marketing blitz for the ATHF movie were "terrorist" markings. The CEO of Turner resigned because of the debacle it became. While Sym-Bionic Titan may not have been as big as Samurai Jack or Dexter's Lab, it was showing potential (I personally LOVED the show), but was axed because they didn't think they could make enough toys off it. Tartakovsky left because of CN doing that. To me, the Network is not even a shell of its former self, it's worse. I haven't watched the channel in years.

As bad as Cartoon Network's programming is now (Adv. Time, Regular Show, Clone Wars, Adult Swim NOW, countless others), I don't expect anything good from them trying to revitalize Toonami, not by a long shot.

As far as I'm concerned, you're all better off going here, Toonami Aftermath. They may not play all that I want to see when I can view it, but at the very least they have a decent amount of shows, more than what I believe they'll try to put on a return of Toonami.

Bringing back Toonami would be meaningless unless they got some good programming like it used to have.

Samurai Jack, Sym-Bionic Titan, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, etc.

And they should kill the current CGI incarnation of the Clone Wars and replace it with more of Tartakovsky's brilliant animated version. That shit was incredible.

All of these possibilities are long shots, so it's probably also a long shot that we'll see the return of a Toonami in its former glory.

  9. Like motherfucking Animal Man.

Holy damn do I love Animal Man so far.

The Rot is some pretty fucked up shit. I think the Animal Man/Swamp Thing storyline with it are one of the most interesting ones to me right now in DC's New 52 (except, possibly, for the Court of Owls thing going on in the Bat Universe).

I'm very interested to read the full history of the Red, the Green, and the Rot.
