  1. I haven't already posted my comments? Okay, here they are: Beautiful & eccletic remix. D/led the original and you've done a lot with the original theme, nice. I think it's rockin', creepy and very professionally done. Best Prot mix? It's right alongside Forest Birdcussion IMO, I don't get why people like Brainsick Metal past the arrangement... But yes, a wonderful remix. Very delightfully devilish, keep up the good work Prot. 10/10 (Guess I should try this ZAMN game, people seem to like it...)
  2. I really really like this mix. There's something delightfully creepy in those raising/lowering bizarre synth noises. It's like haunted pseudo voices calling to me. It creeps me out and I like it. I just d/led it yet I've listened to it 10+ times already.
  3. Triumph. Very flow. Smoother than velvet, with half the callories and twice the awesome.
  4. Oh baby that's smooth. I love this song. Nice work Gecko, I don't know why but I have to say your sonic covers are at least 5 times better than your other stuff. I live for those kind of creepy ambient loops you opened with... it's not the effect as much as the chords I can tell, but it's the effects paired with it that make it genius. 9.5/10
  5. Very fun and flavourful mix. Definitely doesn't sound amature... good show.
  6. You mirrored my thoughts exactly Ork; I loved this tune when I heard it... I don't see how it managed to slip past me because I also thought I heard all of the SOM tracks. It's one of my favourite songs and it's very sensitively and professionally put together. Very nice. 9.5/10
  7. A very very tasty mix. I wish I knew the original. I've found my new favourite genre. Jazz/Jungle fusion. One of my favourite OCR tracks.
  8. Another one of your 'exception' pieces. It's got a flavour that I think stands a bit above the rest of your mixes. I keep coming back to it, it's really enjoyable. I don't know how you could've been so dismissive towards it; you must've been in a rotten mood that day. *Goes and reads FAQ to try and offer some kind of abstract comfort and support*
  9. Normally I find your work DJP to be... well... with the exception of a few songs... the same kind of stuff... that may come as a bit of surprise since no one would say you're 60+ songs are really alike, but it shows that a lot of them came out of the same studio set up and genre preference. However, this is one of those exceptions. A very very tasty little piece you've got here. It's aaaaaaaallll about the bass on this one. If it wasn't for the bass, I'm convinced the song would diminish 20-fold. But you DID have the bass. Yay! 9/10
  10. Thank you, 30+ replies and I thought no one was going to mention it. The piano does not sound like crap, it sounds very good, it's just this one note IMO.
  11. First; The Bad: The lyrics have an akward rhythm at times... I couldn't get used to it, I also thought the message behind the lyrics (at least at the beginning) was rather dry, why should we care about you playing games till 3 in the morning? Because it leads to your dream? I found it hard to care about that section. The lifting horn sound at 1:01 has an undeniable moment of static, likely gain related... similar vocal static at 1:38ish... Finally; the 'hunh' at 1:30 is mediocre... it works but it doesn't. The Good: GOOOD! GOOD GOOD DGO OGODOOGOG! It's not bad it just has a few issues I can't not acknowledge... if you're like me and hear everything wrong with your own mix, then I'm sure it stings to hear me pick them out... sorry. The instruments and effects are awesome, the vocal talent is perfectly suited for the mix. The mixing itself is great, and the vocal effects are perfectly timed in their execution.... the delay effects, the cutting and panning, the vocoding(?) sounds great. The feeling of the mix is great, it really expresses your emotion well. The message is well delivered and best of all, it is unlike any other mix on OCR, a huge plus in DJP's books but a massive plus in mine. Clone songs annoy me. What you have here is a completely original take and it has been developed beautifully, whatever length of time it took you to make this track, not a second of it was wasted. Good job Arkimedes. This is your moment.
  12. I really enjoyed this piece... It is definately one that grows on you, the bell like tones, which are midi-esque probably because they aren't very far from straight generated tones... probably a mix of square and sine... are very expertly executed because there is a strong combination of held notes and cut off notes. The rythmic things going on with the synth line throughout are very fun and well done as well. A very nice piece but I agree with many of the other posts, far from perfect and I think the dynamics and polish leave a little to be desired. 8/10 Excellent song choice.
  13. Since the squealy moments were apparently something you had full control over (as though it were a knob you twiddled) it's frustrating that you kept choosing to throw it so high up there. But then again hindsight is 20/20 right... I have things I hate about everything I mixed. I'll stop picking on that particular issue, everybody else already did. Great mix, very flavourful. I'm suprised I didn't hang on to it at first. Yummy, thanks DJP.
  14. Oh I get it, Bird Percussion shortened to Birdcussion. BAHAHA! That's witty! (It's sad how long it takes me to get things sometimes.
  15. This emoticon does not do my feelings justice: I am in love with this song, one of the best I've heard in a while, definitely my favourite CT mix thus far (KLuTz is in another category). So smooth, shows such musical comprehension, the chord progressions are perfect, the samples are high quality and the variations of the melody are spot on. 10/10 Gorgeous, make more like it!
  16. Reading through these posts I have to make a few funny observations. 1-After like 3 different hosts only 1, the last one, actually still seems to link to the WTF mix 2-The majority of those who listened to this are completely ignorant to the genre. I was suprised to find someone knew Brave New Waves and someone else knew Kid 606, that seems to be as close as you got to similar arists. 3-Mustin's the Atomizer was referenced I believe 4 times. WHY! Is there nothing else on OCR as ecclectic? They are not similar at all. 4-The general consensus is either a) I like it but it's not for me, Ug, what were they thinking, I do like the sheep thing though... or c)This is my life's single greatest experience; I want crack. 5-It's very nice to find people's knowledge base explaining the samples. Wu-tang, the Little Prince, David Craig, A Scholar & A Physician clearly sampled a lot. Okay, now it's time for my actual critique: Now that one of my main musical resources is OCR I've searched the databse far and wide for some fast/abstract dnb/idm as soon as I was 4 seconds in I knew I had found it. I am not getting tired of this mix anytime soon. The drums are detailed, the melody is toyed with magnificently, and the fast flanges and reverses are wonderful. Clearly this is unique on OCR, but the best... meh yeah it's good. The genre I was looking for, very mathematically acurate (which trust me can be hard...), one for my collection, even my top 5, there's nothing wrong with it (though I wasn't a huge fan of the noodles part, though it was funny), but there's just so much good music here at OCR. Besides I don't want to pull the same everyone else is. The visual; spot on... someone made the comment that with Atomizer they didn't even need the visual. WELL GOOD FOR FRIGGIN ATOMIZER! Can't you see this song inspired a flash artist to make something equally visually precise and maticulous? Isn't that a good thing?!? The flash is a triumph. Good work, it should be respected on par with the mix. In fact the two should join forces and fight evil. If you guys like this I recommend you read through a page from my personal site bio; it is full of links to a wide range of similar wonderful odd musical styles. You can find that here. (Especially the first 3 links) If you like this mix also check out these songs: Aphex Twin - 54 Cymru Beats Kid 606 & Hrvatski - Vatstep DSP Kid 606 - Never Underestimate The Value Of A Holler <<<(Missy Elliot Remix!) Venetian Snares & Doormouse - Skelechairs Squarepusher - Mindrubbers Lesser - Epic Act (Awful Way To Go) You hate it and you love it cause this music has balls, and that's all there needs to be said.
  17. *teary eyes* So pretty, so pro... jealousy rising. In close competition with Prot's Forest Birdcussion for my #1 favourite OC Remix. Belongs in the credits of a modern asian movie... like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 2. Maybe I'll just shut up. I don't want to touch commenting on the specifics of this one, I'm still far too in awe of it. SGX, Destructo, Aurora: THANK YOU!
  18. There's a lot of cool stuff going on in this mix, I have no complaints really. It's got more guts than a lot of the techno's you'll find on the rest of OCR. The bass effect at the beginning is tough and constant, the robot voice is fitting (as are it's words), and instruments play an excellent spacey interpretation of the original melody. Reminds me of Luke Vibert meets Felix Kubin, Kubin's German and therefore has a lot of German vocal samples and Luke Vibert loves the space theme, he had quite a few tracks with effects like this. Good work. Oh, and heh, Commander Keen; you can't top that. (As if everyone else on this thread hasn't mentioned this already...)
  19. Such a brilliant little flourish. Definately a real pianist, nothing wrong with this song... it could be like... a concerto or something. The peak built to at 1:38 is absolutely gorgeous. Very expressive. Very painful, very good.
  20. To this I must say, yes, many have also noticed it's the kind of piece that draws you in. It helps you see a mental picture merely with it's atmospheric style... But to your former point .smh, expand your definition. 'not quite a song'!?! ... fine; then don't play it at any parties any time soon and appreciate it for what it is: a 'sonic creation'. Music isn't a beat, music is sonic message through whatever medium. I would suggest using terms like 'more' or 'less musical. I think of all the elements to a selection of music, the sensitive conveying of emotion is the most important; this track does that to a tee. I am addicted to this mp3! It's a positively gorgeous, emotional piece of soundscape... you cannot listen to this and be thinking of a world of happiness and sunshine. The instruments are well chosen, and their faint flowing melodies masterfully used/developed. If I were to put my spin on it, I would add a musical line of suffering... a faint digital something fading in and out resembling whining... like a form of whale noise. The ending melody too, while a great, was a little unnecessary... it was like it was added on so that it would be CT enough to be accepted. I think it's stronger before that point, but again that's my spin... not to be confused with a suggestion, this piece is complete. No one can touch you on this one CotMM. 10/10 ***** Two thumbs up. Gorgeous. PS: The track also reminds me a lot of the music from the group 'Boards Of Canada'.
  21. I'm in love with this song... this style is beautiful. When you mix up the beat after pretty much every count of 4... or better yet sort of without counting at all... it almost always becomes a song which grows on you. Great song choice, excellent dark style and good integration of sound effects. Favourite sampled effect is the clicky thing at 1:30... drool... so subtle and perfect... like a pin prick. My favourite part of the whole thing though has the subtle pitch bending note on every 8 count after the song switch. Delicious delicious song. OC'ers! MAKE MORE LIKE THIS! (For more dark, creative and delicious artists like this try Venetian Snares... I'm a big fan.) get a quick idea here...
  22. I'm a big fan of this mix. I loved the song to begin with and this is a delightful little journey through it's melodies and possible variations. There's something captivating about this song, I keep finding myself coming back to it. Definately a fan of the harder drums @ 3:33... brings it so much flow. The flourishes of percussion like at 4:25 show you know what you're doing, you're not kidding around. Plus the beautiful and pro sounding piano, beautiful synth lines and realistic/appropriate sound effects. Good job Protricity, another score.
  23. On the professional level, no questions. I also listen to it too much... One of my favourite MP3's of all time... I love the somewhat muffled string samples that fade in at 1:25ish and then bounce around at 1:44ish the best, the crackle adds that snowstorm feel. That muting effect around 1:43 and 2:04 is delicious. The percussion is intelligent enough to listen to on it's own but mixed it with the instruments and the many other layers... gorgeous gorgeous mp3. Keep up the good work Ziwtra
