  1. I don't mean to start flamewars (I really don't. They just happen..), but Subspace Emissary is extraneous crap. I mean, you can tell the effort is there, but the platforming never really worked in SSBM either and was one of the most out of place features of the whole thing. As an extra in itself, it's a nice slap-on. But in itself, I don't see how SSBB really benefited a lot from it. They need better level designs or make the experience tighter as a whole next time. The boss battles are great though.
  2. Some of them are good, all of them are great visual pieces, but most of them simply do not make any or much sense. Paprika looked really nice, but the moral of the story is that if you're an extremely fat and boorish male programmer, you can get a supermodel girlfriend?
  3. But they were, until I heard about XI. After KoF2k3, they kept running the formula to the ground and that's also the time they concentrated on the Street Fighter EX style pseudo 3D King of Fighter games. That part of the series was like a black eye to the games. I don't see what's so impertinent about what I said. Further elaborating, XI was the true sequel to 2k3 after all. So that means everything inbetween 2003 and very late 2007 was all rehashes and bad spinoffs. That and the fact that the sprites were basically close to being decades old since they kept re-making the sprites upon the older ones. I guess the jump would be similar to how Street Fighter 3 was with Alpha and the other SF games. For KoF it really has never been done before, counting out the sharper sprite remake of KOF 94.
  4. So I admitted I didn't play one game but that doesn't change the fact that KoF as a series never had the overhaul the way SF2:HD and SF4 is having. It doesn't strike me as coincidental. I don't see what's so bad about comparing the two franchises that had the most direct impact on one another. I'm a fan of both.
  5. A few stores including Best Buy is having new offers to restock Wii systems, but only around 15 to 20 at a time. It's just ridiculous. PS- The Gamefaqs thread is having an aneuryism because of its activity.
  6. They already have MotW Gato and might even have Rock so I don't see why not. I think Terry's old designs are just ancient. It's about time to change. As for SF2:HD comparison, I think that's somewhat apt except I don't think they'll try to overhaul the system like KOF series tries to do every year. I hope KOF doesn't have an off year with the kind of graphics KOF XII will have.
  7. It will be made by Madhouse which is the same studio, but I doubt the actual staff will be exactly the same. It's a movie following the Trigun Maximum manga that still continues today instead of the anime-original story. I hear the main theme will be Wolfwood versus Vash.
  8. Yeah, I actually never played XI and it's apparently $15 in most stores. I hear it's a followup of KOF2k3 too (IMO one of the best ones aside from the 90's ones). But even more than Street Fighter, KOF games seemed to languish with its sprites, but maybe it seemed that way since they made about a dozen KOF games compared to the constant remakes. I don't really count the sharpened sprites like some people have mentioned in this thread too, though it's a nice addition. KOF games always passed off each year as a sequel so that seemed disingenuous. Street Fighter always seemed more consistent even if they were mostly remakes. And now it seems they are finally moving forward with KOF in all aspects. It's not just in the wording either. Finally they move away from the nearly decades old sprites.
  9. Nobody will post in it so why bother? Also, this kind of graphical update with High definition hand drawn sprites was what SF4 was rumored to be for a while. I find it highly ironic that KOF got the treatment after all the lousy KOF games in the last 3 or 4 years. Also, another similarity is that both games are done in the style of renowned comic/character-design artists. Both do look great in that aspect I would say, but for different reasons.
  10. Somewhat old news because apparently the vast majority of Capcom gamers don't even realize KOF exists. But this trailer is beyond incredible: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/30832.html This is basically what SF4 should have been.
  11. Red Circle of Death, Sorcerer? eh.. Now only if they'll just combine PS4 and Xbox720 and be done with it. Then it'll pretty much be the revival of the mountain of 3rd party games in the PS1 and PS2 eras.
  12. This year is the year of amazing oldschool sequels really. Trigun, Slayers, Golgo 13, Birdy the Mighty, Gegege/Hakaba Kitaro, Macross. I wouldn't be surprised if that decade-long-rumored Cowboy Bebop prequel will be made. All the above titles were way more surprising than most. And it is happening consecutively this year. If a good portion of them lives up to the hype, it'll probably be one of the best year in anime ever.
  13. I liked it a lot, but I actually think FFXII may have been more overrated than FF7 now. I had the opposite problem since I had the battle down pat for 95% of the game even to the final secret bosses which only required the cheap zoning/rezoning trick. Also the gold seemed to be way too easy to obtain if you know which items to sell and all the skills were watered down into uselessness (seriously, if you use spells instead of the '5 attacks per second' buffs, you are being silly). And as for the plot, FFXII really had one of the thinnest ones I can remember, even if it was stylistically beautiful.
  14. FFXII was nowhere near as good as the insanely high review scores made it out to be. Especially its silly end game that seems to mock its own game engine.
  15. I think IGN is down due to everyone trying to read/watch the SSBB review... And it should be early morning for all of America..
  16. Buying two copies. One to eBay for hundreds of dollars a decade from now. Or maybe to keep..
  17. I still don't think Otakon sounded right. Then again, I never thought he was a good voice actor. PS- Thanks for linking that Star Fox voice acting video. I now have a headache. And I think I'm going to play the game again.
  18. Why did they change Otakon's voice actor?.. That doesn't sound right. Good to see Snake being retarded again though.
  19. I didn't take kindly to Sylpheed's demo. For a demo, it seemed way too complex. I'm glad to hear that it's actually a bit like Gundam Seed too. I did love the space battle aspect in that sense. But hearing that it is down to $30 now, I think I'll probably buy it soon. Only after I buy a PSP, PS3 and a dozen 360 and Wii games...
  20. I have a feeling I'm going to simply play the game for what it is and have fun even if it means I die 90% of the time when playing online. I'm only good at some rare games like COD4 for some strange reason (I got murdered too much in most FPS games to consider myself any good at them). Even in Puzzle Fighter online, I die most of the time but do give the most I have to at least play the occasional foil. I hope SSBB allows a bit of that space for some unexpected victories since I probably won't bother getting too good at any characters except for when I try to use Luigi competitively. I don't know why, but I love playing the underdog/foil in online matches. I somehow think my subconscious has chosen Luigi as my choice.
  21. That was a nice scene in Air, though it rarely seemed to make much sense. They rushed through the plot too quick, but that happened in Kanon and in Clannad now too. Very well made shows, but they rush everything. Oh, and SPARTA: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9pQxxvY7X4U
  22. I don't think most Phoenix Wright fans would agree it was close to perfect. There is some gap in quality between the silly/totally-useless filler episodes to the most dramatic ones. PW3's final case was great, except the very end just went around in circles with Godot a bit. To me, Apollo Justice is nice because it tries to deviate from the main characters. I think the gameplay really has nowhere to go at this point though. I still think the final case in Phoenix Wright 1 was how it always should have been. Challenging and you actually needed a bit more investigative skills than usual.
  23. It's sort of scary to know that Bowser apparently is getting an upgrade. I think he basically went from a non-threat (I think most tourneys considered it laughable to use Bowser for the most part) to being close to higher tier now. Pretty big jump.
  24. Those voices are pretty fuckin' terrible. Even for Solid Snake, I like his Japanese voice a bit more. I know I'm in the minority on that one.
  25. Now that I think about it, Triggerheart was a Dreamcast game, so I think it could be worth it.
