  1. I can agree that it doesn't seem as good as it could be, but it looks way better than the hundreds of lazily edited and designed Mario mods. I think there are some better ones though.
  2. 1080i resolutions in general even below 1080p are pretty good. 720p is still quite a bit above as I see it, but that's mostly a resolution for smaller HDTVs and LCDs. And Atomicfog, I doubt the footage on TV stores is that big a deal anymore unless they make a point to show non-HD channels on them (which is usual). Like I said many times, the only good way to ascertain how good HD feed is by watching actual demo booths that only feature HD content. I think they are doing more of that now than ever.
  3. I think you got your priorities mixed up. DVDs are just old and antiquated for newer TVs. It's not the newer TVs' fault. Wait, who said that? You are making it sound like it's some wide consensus. It is not. Remember when we had the same discussion about technology holdovers a year or two ago? Apparently the infiltration of high definition TVs is pretty much a done deal. There is almost no physical way to buy analog TVs anymore in most stores. And not surprisingly, high def formats are catching on. I don't think the story of high definition holdovers is the majority. It's the increasingly smaller minority. A good 25 inch screen can show a lot of difference already, not to mention a 40+ inch one. I don't understand why that myth continues to pervade. And Bluray quality is of quite higher quality than DVD by comparison. Actually, it's really not a comparison at all especially for movies made in HD feed to begin with such as many animated CG cartoons. Ratatouille just looks ridiculous in High Definition. It looks almost too perfect and much better than it did in theaters. That, and DVDs are meant to be shown in 4:3 format analog TVs. It's just not a good, compatible format anymore for new TVs. Also, most people seem to forget that the audio is a big selling point for higher disc formats. The audio is literally movie theater quality for all High Def DVDs and Bluray I experienced while only a select few DVDs offer a full theater sound support and even then, the depth of the sound typically doesn't match those in Bluray. I bet those wishing it wasn't introduced don't own the said HD formats at all. Compared to HDTV infiltration, the format infiltration will happen though more slowly. I have no real problems with DVDs either. Just that the technology is starting to show its age and limitations compared to newer technology. That and older movies not originally made in HD feed won't make the same impact as all the newer movies that does. More Bluray/HD-DVDs of older movies and TV shows sometimes scale the visuals to the newer standard, but it's not the same quality and the difference isn't as clear then. Also, I didn't think the difference would be that different for the DVD/Bluray until I went to a BestBuy and was glued to the demo booth. The difference is just so clear and convincing in motion (remember when people said the same for HD gaming?). It's definitely not something you can just get across with a description alone. Eventually most TV viewers and disc-buffs will catch on.
  4. I could swear the best thing about SSBB is its maps. Frankly, most SSBM maps disappointed or were totally useless or at worse, plain annoying (Big Blue SSBM, Pokefloats). Pictochat and Warioware maps just sound like a blast just to play in them. Not to mention the Luigi's Mansion featured in the dojo.
  5. I distinctly remember climbing uphill on a bicycle for an hour to get Super Smash Brothers Melee and the Gamecube once. That climb would have been difficult for a professional.
  6. The main theme is the best one Uematsu did since FF8, IMO. I think I have to buy the game now. I heard nothing but praise for the story too. I guess it helps that it was based on a novel to begin with.
  7. And I was getting perfectly used to the dual formats. Both did sell well while they were there. I wonder if this means Microsoft will have to buy Sony's format for Xbox720... awkward... MS should just buy Sony then.
  8. I don't see why not. It's par for course for RPGs. I think it wouldn't be a problem if it was on Bluray though.. Infinite Undiscovery does look gay, but its gameplay should be better than most of its type. Just about all the reviews give Lost Odyssey the same symptoms of a JRPG. Technically backwards (long loading, four discs, ancient play mechanics) but pretty well done in what it does. I'll wait until the price drop for both RPGs. I'm still waiting for Eternal Sonata to drop.
  9. Melee Captain Falcon is becoming a galvanizing internet fad sensation like Obama is in the presidential election. "PAAAANCCCHH!!!"
  10. I can barely under the criticism anymore. It's even beyond caring. Some of the criticisms are weird. "we don't get to see the monster enough times". "what was the government doing?". "I didn't understand the story". Duh, it's a mystery.. Mysteries are... mysterious. And those comments, I heard from the theater after the showing.
  11. I haven't heard much about the wave dashing in Brawl. Is it is pervasive as it is before, or does the lag nullify it online?
  12. Weird thing to double post about, but this morning, my house was burglarized while I was still at home. I'm feeling all the emotions a human being can feel right now. Even happiness for the obvious reason.
  13. I still say the DS is still 'kiddy-ish' but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a huge library of great games. The 3rd party tends to straddle the line between being kid friendly and just running loose with a few titles with the DS while for the PSP, they tend to jump straight into the mature fare knowing their audience.
  14. Great news. It's a must buy for me (yes, even forgoing pirating for once). I'm a bit worried that the C&C universe is getting swamped again. There's the new C&C FPS game, C&C3 and now C&C RA3. I hope they don't run the franchise to the ground like they did before.
  15. Define 'crap' because I think TV is still in pretty fine form even with the lousy pilot episodes. Also, I have a high (IE VERY HIGH) tolerance of reality shows so that helps too. Also, the recent episode of Jericho was just amazing. Too bad it'll get canceled again due to low ratings, just like with all the great TV shows.
  16. Yeah. Apollo Justice still will be the top visual novel style game for the DS in the coming weeks. I'm buying both, but overall the impressions aren't as high as it is for Apollo Justice (straight 9's compared to a few 8's for Layton in Famitsu reviews. Mostly the same reception elsewhere). I don't have a very high opinion of Level 5 since they seem to downplay their games even when they work on high profile stuff like Dragon Quest. I think smaller games suit Level 5 more.
  17. More recently in Mai-Hime, Mai-Otome (the Otome specials had some tracks that gave me real goosebumps) and El Cazador. She seems to get better with each anime she does. Yoko Kanno is still great (watching Macross Frontier), though she is more erratic in quality. She still gets way too much props for Cowboy Bebop though. That is ten years ago. While Kajiura is consistently awesome. For all her OSTs.
  18. 2 minutes? What, so pedophiles can't do weird SSBB sign language to lure youngsters within 2 minutes? Is that it?
  19. I wonder if people are starting to use Ventrilo for SSBB. I heard about a few games that did in Gamefaqs threads. Which is really, really ironic since Nintendo didn't even want to go there. But how else is one supposed to communicate mid-match?
  20. Heroes, Breaking Bad, Lost, South Park, Rescue Me, House. I almost forgot about all of the except for a few new eps in the recent weeks.
  21. I don't think they had much of a choice when turning an anime styled fighting game into 3D. I wouldn't have minded a more straight 3D conversion like Project Justice though. I was hoping SF4's art was done by Project Justice and Dark Stalker's Edayan.
  22. There's always Devil May Cry 4, Call of Duty 4 (lots of fours..), Grand Theft Auto 4 (again?), Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect expansion, Too Human (if it's any good), then Soul Calibur 4 (Four again) by June. I'm basically only going to use the Wii for No More Heroes and SSBB for now. And maybe the occasional Galaxy. Then Kart later in the year. That and XBLA is still pretty amazing. I'm hopelessly addicted to Puzzle Quest and Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo. Then there's the 2D remake of Bionic Commando.
  23. That is a moot point when hardcore/semi-hardcore games are selling like wildfire too. While on the other side of the spectrum with PCs, there isn't much of a 'casual' market to speak of other than all the silly Tycoon games and Sims and a few free online games that really shouldn't count as 'PC games that you buy for $50'. And I don't really know how to categorize MMORPGs in that spectrum. Hardcore/Casual?... Even 2D games are selling like crazy on downloadable services for console systems. That says a lot. It also seems that platformers and shoot-em-up games are more apt for the Xbox Live Arcade treatment and it sells well that way. I admit that PC games as a WHOLE isn't dead, but the whole culture of PC gaming's importance isn't really there anymore. PC games don't trailblaze; Console games do. In the 90's maybe, but not now. There's a few stellar examples for the PC side, but it is totally out of proportion compared to what console games do nowadays. Oh, and piracy is a way bigger issue on PC gaming because it is so accessible compared to all the hardware fusses you need to contend with for console gaming: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165631 One of my favorite franchises, Max Payne, had to be put on hold indefinitely thanks to overt piracy.
  24. I thought I forgot about Red Steel. ugh. But yeah, RE games were a good effort though somewhat derivative. No More Heroes is pretty much what the Wii needs. I doubt most game developers will be as gutsy with the wild innovation as often though. The most innovative games in this year seems to be for the PSP and even a few PS3 titles actually, with stuff like Echochrome and Patapon. Which is really ironic.
  25. Thankfully, the worst I've ever gotten was a few angry car key scratched on my once brand new car. I fixed it with almost no cost thanks to insurance anyway. So that was stupid of the idiot who did it. I did hear of a full blown robbery in a neighborhood once. I hate people.
