  1. www.eventide.com

    Rubies of Eventide.

Very cool free MMORPG. Well made. Certain skills aren't implemented (About two or three out of 51). Good community, so you get pretty much instant help with the /h help channel.

They have a general server (phoenix), a roleplaying server (fireopals) and a completely PvP server (halberd).

There's a cool language feature. You can set the language to speak in, and your words come out translated to that language, except to people who have a sufficient level in it. You start off fluent in two languages depending on your race. One is always Praxic (English).

Anyway, it's just generally cool. You have day, night, weather, seasons and all that stuff, and there are big monsters to kill of course. And the three staple classes are there too; ranger, mage and warrior. Four if you count non-combat.

Does it get boring, and is the story interesting?
  2. Wow, an interesting bit of trivia for anyone... interested.

According to Wiki (which, as you know, knows all):

"DK Rap" was the first-ever incidence of the word "hell" being spoken aloud in a Nintendo game. It ought to be pointed out that Rare is a British company, and in Britain the word "hell" is not viewed with anything like the opprobrium it is in the US. In order to avoid future controversy, when the Rap was used in later games, "hell" was replaced with "heck".

    Also worth noting:

The line "His coconut gun can fire in spurts. If he shoots ya, it's gonna hurt!" was named the fourth worst game line ever in the January 2002 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly.

Wow, no love for the Rap.

    --Jack Kieser

I liked the 64 DK rap, the one playing in SSBM sucks.

Several years ago, the kids section of the Chicago Tribune did a story writing contest. I wrote some godawful thing about Atlantis (which, at the time, I thought was the epitome of everything written ever). I lost, but was appalled to see that the winner plagiarized a large portion of the DK rap. I was furious, and wrote up a big letter to send in, pointing out this copier's dastardly deed. I never sent it though D:

  3. I'm sure everyone here has heard of the various distributed computing projects out there, SETI, Folding, etc. There's a new one out there, but instead of using your computer it uses you.

"Welcome to GalaxyZoo, the project which harnesses the power of the internet - and your brain - to classify a million galaxies. By taking part, you'll not only be contributing to scientific research, but you'll view parts of the Universe that literally no-one has ever seen before and get a sense of the glorious diversity of galaxies that pepper the sky.

    Why do we need you?

The simple answer is that the human brain is much better at recognising patterns than a computer can ever be. Any computer program we write to sort our galaxies into categories would do a reasonable job, but it would also inevitably throw out the unusual, the weird and the wonderful. To rescue these interesting systems which have a story to tell, we need you."

For those of us that are interested in astronomy (or just need something to do during coffee break), this is a fun diversion. I've spent quite a bit of time listening to the EVE Online OST and identifying galaxies. You've got to take a little test to make sure you're not galaxy-retarded, but it is really fairly simple. And, you get to feel like you're helping some sort of cause. There is a bit of quality control - most galaxies are identified three or four times by different people, just to keep trolls from mucking with the system.

    Galaxy Zoo.

If they implement a team feature, I'd love to start an ocremix team.

0_0; It'll never happen, but I want someone to pull a stunt like that at least once in my lifetime.
