  1. This might be too long. Mega Man 1987 Capcom Mega Man is the protagonist of the seminal platforming game of the same name and its large series of sequels. He was designed by Keiiji Inafune. In Mega Man, Dr. Thomas Light, a pioneering robotics engineer in the 21st century, builds a robotic assistant for himself that can perform household duties autonomously. Dr. Light, along with his colleague Dr. Albert W. Wily, creates six other highly advanced robots to supervise the operation of less intelligent robots. However, Dr. Wily reprograms these "master robots" and employs them in a campaign to take control of the world. Upon learning of this campaign, Dr. Light's robotic assistant asks him to refit his metal body for battle against Dr. Wily and the master robots. Dr. Light accommodates this request, and his assistant becomes Mega Man, sporting a new helmet and a plasma cannon in his arm called the "Mega Buster." Mega Man thereafter makes it his duty to foil Dr. Wily's plans for world domination, and does so time and again throughout the Mega Man classic series. Mega Man's characteristic ability is that of copying the technology from a defeated foe's weapon into his own arsenal. That is, whenever he defeats a master robot, he can thereafter use the robot's primary weapon system against his enemies. His abilities have also expanded since the original Mega Man (in which he can only run, jump, and shoot small plasma bursts at shoulder level) to include sliding, charging the Mega Buster for more powerful shots, and fusing bodies with his robotic dog Rush. 2. Hopefully not too much overlap. EDIT: "The OCR Mascot Bio Project: Letting you in on what that one hot picture on the randomizer is all about." And I will add more links to all of my bios soon. Morrigan and Lilith Aensland Capcom 1994 After being given a temporary body by Jedah, the Lord of the Vampire, the youthful succubus Lilith Aensland realizes that her liberator has no intention of keeping his promise to reunite her with her real body. Lilith makes her way desperately to Morrigan Aensland, her true body and origin of her soul. She interupts a battle between Morrigan and Demitri Maximov and begs Morrigan to fuse with her. She falls unconscious as her temporary body begins to die. Morrigan senses something familiar in the girl (as Lilith was indeed once a part of her), and the two succubi fuse in essence. Afterward, Morrigan appears no different than she was before, but her disposition lightens akin to Lilith's and she feels darker emotions. Perhaps such feelings are a response to Lilith's destructive nature, for which the two were separated in the first place. Appearances: This reunion takes place in Darkstalkers 3 (1997). 3. Lilith Aensland Capcom 1994 Lilith Aensland is a character in the Darkstalkers series of fighting games. She is a seemingly young succubus with a cheerful persona and an appetite for violence. She is, in her essence, one third of the destructive power of the Scottish succubus Morrigan Aensland. Both succubi technically came into existence as one at Morrigan's birth in 1678. At that time, however, Morrigan's father Belial sealed away a part of her power. Over many years that power developed a consciousness, and named herself Lilith Aensland. When Morrigan reached 300 years old, Jedah, the Lord of the Vampire, released Lilith and gave her a transient physical form. He told her that if she helped him unite the souls of the Dark World with himself, he would reunite her with her real body: Morrigan. This prospect is her reason for fighting in the game. 4. But what about the people who flock to OC after the revolution and don't know anything about video games? They need to know who Mario is. What about the kids? I was thinking the other day, "I hope someday some kid finds it cool that I'm whistling Sonic the Hedgehog music." Then I realized that kids today haven't played the old Genesis games and won't know what I'm whistling. I feel old. EDIT: I don't want to postwhore: When all the bios are written, we'll probably want an editor to go through them and make the style and formatting consistent (as well as fix typos, grammar, etc.). Depending on when that is, I'd be happy to proofread them, or some of them. I'm not a professional editor, but I took enough English classes that I consider myself qualified. In any event, that's a while into the future, but it's something to keep in mind when we're closing in on completion. EDIT AGAIN: Is the Mario bio too long? I took out the very extranneous, and it's Mario after all, but...thoughts?
  5. Mario Nintendo 1981 Mario is possibly the most widely-known video game character today. He is Nintendo's official mascot and is an icon of the modern era of video games. Mario first appeared in 1981 as the protagonist of the arcade game Donkey Kong. Here he is a carpenter who must save his girlfriend from his escaped pet gorilla by making his way through a course of obstacles. In this game much of Mario's appearance as we know it today was defined; incidentally, technological limitations played a significant role in how he looked (such as his trademark hat eliminating a difficult task of animating hair). In Mario's first console game, Super Mario Bros. for the NES (as well as in the arcade game Mario Bros.), his character changed, and he has remained for decades as he is in this milestone title. Mario is a plumber who, with his brother Luigi, must rescue Toadstool, the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, from captivity. She is held by Bowser, the king of an invading tribe of turtles called the Koopa. Princess Toadstool is the only person who can undo the Koopa's black magic that transformed the people of the Mushroom Kingdom into stones, bricks, and plants. To do this, Mario makes use of his facility with plumbing and pipes to adventure both above ground and below. This game produced a long-running series of sequels in which Mario again and again must foil the Koopa and their malicious operations in ever-expanding ways. The Super Mario series has also branched repeatedly into multiple types of games, from racing to party games, from spectator sports to role-playing. Mario and his supporting characters have been featured in a myriad different places throughout over two decades of his history, and have had an indelible influence and presence in video gaming since the 1980s. Mario appears here wearing a Wing Cap, a special hat he can find in Super Mario 64 that allows him to fly. Some Primary Appearances: Donkey Kong (1981) Mario Bros. (1985) Super Mario Bros. 6. Last final complete + don't want to pack = bio I'm still on Disc 1 of Xenogears, so anybody who has anything important to add, speak up. EDIT: I get this sense that Fei was already done, but he's not on the list...btw nice new sig, Dafydd. Fei Fong Wong Square-Enix 1998 Fei is the main character of Xenogears, an amiable young man of 18 years. His home has been the small village Lahan since he was brought there one night, unconscious, by a silent, masked man. Upon waking up the next morning, Fei had lost his memory and started his life anew. Fei is a practiced martial artist, and instructs Lahan children in his art. He is also a prolific painter and appears to have been taught his skills by a master. He is quiet but not shy, often expressing his thoughts and feelings but in a controlled, pragmatic tone. Xenogears is, in part, the story of how Fei's shadowy past violently shapes his life. Although at the game's outset he seems unimportant to the great conflict that rages outside Lahan, he is revealed to be more and more bound to it in past, present, and future as the story progresses. Over time, Fei is reluctantly transformed into an effective pilot of Weltall, a large engine of war shaped like a person (the likes of which are called "Gears" in the game). Weltall time and again is almost a part of Fei in how extensively it is tied to and influences his fate. 7. It's amazing what you'll find once you know some words...which brings up an important point: DJP should know what all of these things are called, since he put them on the site. Can we ask him to add names to the image list? Bonus kun Sunsoft 1995 Bonus kun was the mere punching bag of Rouwe, the final boss of the arcade fighting game Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors. However, he came to life, and Rouwe trained him in the basic skills of fighting. He is apparently a parody of Ryu, of Street Fighter fame, in both his red headband and his techniques of fighting. In Galaxy Fight, Bonus kun is only played by the computer, but in Waku Waku 7 he is available to the player. In both games, his lack of limbs prohibit him from dodging attacks or throwing his opponents, leaving him little more than headbutts (and kicks of some nature) at his disposal. However, in the latter game, his special techniques are powerful enough to make up for these farcical inabilities. 8. A note: some of the images are duplicative, so we're closer to having a bio linked to each image than it may seem.
  9. Dr. Robotnik Sega 1991 Dr. Ivo Robotnik, known in Japan as Dr. Eggman, is the recurring antagonist in the Sonic the Hedgehog series of games. A mad scientist with a talent for robotics, his malevolent plans classically involve turning Sonic's animal friends into robots, prompting the games' adventures. In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, his operations expand to include his familiar quest for dominion of the world. He takes control of cities and industrial facilities and, again, captures animals for robotic slaves to build a doomsday machine called the Death Egg, which reappears several times later in the series. It is also in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 that he is first recorded as seeking the Chaos Emeralds: seven large gems of extraordinary power that are, together, a signature of the Sonic series. The race to keep the Emeralds' power from the Doctor's hands takes center stage in Sonic's adventures hereafter. Dr. Robotnik's character and story are expanded upon piecemeal in more recent games. In Sonic Adventure 2 he is noted as having an I.Q. of 300. This game reveals that his grandfather, Prof. Gerald Robotnik, was a brilliant scientist like him and designed the space colony "ARK," in addition to being involved in the development of Shadow the Hedgehog, the so-called ultimate life form. The Professor's granddaughter, Maria Robotnik, is also noted as Dr. Robotnik's cousin. In Sonic Heroes, he is described as "a romanticist, a feminist, and a self-proclaimed gentleman" but as also possessing a mania that often obscures this side of him. Dr. Robotnik is the boss of most levels in the Sonic series. His position as Sonic's evil contender is defined by his megalomanic programs of world disaster and his undiluted delirium. Some Primary Appearances: Sonic the Hedgehog (1991) Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994) Sonic & Knuckles (1994) Sonic CD (1993) Knuckles' Chaotix (1995) Sonic 3D Blast (1996) Sonic Adventure (1999) Sonic Adventure 2 (2001) Sonic Heroes (2004) Sources: Gamemanuals.net -Sonic the Hedgehog manual -Sonic the Hedgehog 2 manual -Sonic Adventure 2 manual -Sonic Heroes manual Wikipedia's Dr. Robotnik page Other Links: Sonic Central (Sega's official Sonic site) The Green Hill Zone Sonic Encyclopedia's Dr. Eggman article
  10. I'm really interested in knowing what that thing in Dafydd's sig is. And another bio coming soon.
  11. That's a shitload of equipment. I agree, why doesn't she have a modular synth if she's going to have a ballroom for a studio? It's going to kick any keyboard's ass, and it would, oddly enough, save space due to its versatility. Hey look, it's my Ion!
  12. Okay I'm a moron. Keep up the good work.
  13. Dafydd, could you keep a record on page 1 to show which characters have been covered?
  14. Hopefully I can do Frog justice. Frog Square-Enix 1995 Perhaps one of the most recognizable characters from Chrono Trigger on the Super Nintendo, Frog is an integral member of the game's time-traveling party of heroes. Frog's first game appearance is in 600 A.D., at the Cathedral south of Guardia Castle. When Crono and Lucca are caught off-guard by an attacking Mystic, Frog enters the scene to kill the fiend before it can strike. He says that, as a knight in the service of Queen Leene, he shares the time-travelers' intent to rescue Queen Leene from Yakra and his gang of Mystics. With that he joins the party. Frog is, as his name implies, a frog the size of a small human. It is later revealed that the wizard Magus cursed him with this physical form, but that he was born in the form of a human and named Glenn. When he was squire to the legendary knight Cyrus, during the war between Guardia and Magus's army of Mystics, Glenn and Cyrus confronted Magus together. Magus killed Cyrus and transformed Glenn into a frog, so as to humiliate him. By the time Crono and Lucca meet him, however, his image projects nothing of humiliation. Frog, as the squire-turned-knight instructs others to address him, is a picture of nobility, yet humble and honest. He speaks with characteristic syntax and diction akin to sixteenth century English, which not even his contemporaries use. This adds to his stately style. After helping to rescue Queen Leene, Frog leaves Guardia Castle in self-imposed exile. He says that he failed the Queen in allowing her to be captured, and that he no longer has the honor of serving in her presence. He retreats to his home in the Cursed Woods until Crono and his friends bring him the legendary sword Masamune, reforged. With it, he confronts Magus again to avenge Cyrus's death. Upon being swept out of his home time with Crono and the others during this battle, his story becomes intertwined with theirs. Frog's elegance makes him a memorable part of Chrono Trigger. 15. Experimental. Which means that it doesn't have to sound pleasant. Which it really doesn't. And that doesn't really matter. Man, your stuff keeps getting weirder and weirder, Adhesive_Boy, but as DJP said about this one, it's always full of intent. It's not "cockwaving" because it has thought behind it. Good work.
  16. Great bass writing; it has the mood in its hands, and it shapes it well. Distortion is good here except, perhaps, where it detunes some notes (chiefly the last in the main sequence--it sticks out like a sore thumb). Now, considering that it's Shadow, he has a lot more broken about him than his thumbs, so it bolsters the mood of the song. It just doesn't sound appealing--hopefully you were working toward this. Anyway, great interpretation as has been mentioned. Brooding.
  17. fireflower, check out http://bt.ocremix.org for more information. I use BitTornado, and every time I start a torrent, it asks me which folder I want the files to be downloaded to and uploaded from. If your client doesn't do this, it is probably a setting in some options or preferences menu; look around, you should find out where the client is saving stuff. thexshadow2, can't you just start seeding right now? And where the hell did the ThaSauce torrents go?! I was getting to OCR1375 when they just disappeared.
  18. Wow, you are one hell of a perfectionist! I can't wait to hear this, because I can tell you nitpicked the sound quality like...something that nitpicks...I will certainly look forward to the special edition, but damn, with that sort of devotion to quality, I'm sure your not lying about the second release not implying anything bad about the first. I'm breathing deeply, trying to curb my enthusiasm.
  19. Lollercakes. Anyway, at first I was thinking "are you fucking joking?" But on second thought, from everything I hear, this deserves to be a spectacular event, not a fade-in. Would you, today, tell the Binnie of the past to release KiC early, without the awesome site to pay visual tribute to its aural grandeur? SZ, I know some of the frustration in web design. You take the time you need to make it tight; we'll all be grateful for your hard work. Edit: and, after all, "you wait a little longer, and your penis gets bigger."
  20. QFE on all accounts. Ah, just kidding you, Red Omen. Anyway, I imagine that what CS meant was that it will be...let me wrap my mind around this...more than freakishly awesome of the "Kong in Concert" sort? That's the sort of tall tale you tell to your grandchildren... "And then, yes, there's more. And THEN, THE BIG ONE came out..."
  21. Let me just say that I listened to this song pretty much constantly for the two days after I first heard it. I haven't heard something so deserving of the title "trance" in a long time; you've reminded me how good it can be.
  22. You're organizing the project, right? Why not mention it to DarkeSword or DJP? They're the ones that CAN do something about it, or at least tell you what can be done.
