OCR00394 - Blaster Master "Dancer Master"
Royal Sovereign replied to Saunders's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Huh! Looks like I've found a new favorite remix. Any time that an obscure game has a first level tune which is suddenly given a danceable new electroclash beat...it's ALWAYS good! Awesome work!! -
OCR00271 - Final Fantasy VI "Shadow's Theme"
Royal Sovereign replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Pink Floyd meets Alaistar Crowley...extremely dark and creepy. The guitars are perfect in this piece, everything a dead-on homage not merely to Shadow's theme but also to the dark, tortured soul of Shadow himself. Superb...my God! -
OCR00178 - Final Fantasy VI "Relm's Weepy Loop"
Royal Sovereign replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
A tad cheesy for my taste...it sounds like two Yaoi characters are sharing a candlelit dinner, or something odd as such. And besides, the bagpipes from Relm's original song are gone. Ho hum. Nice effort though. -
OCR00168 - Legend of Zelda "Essential Links"
Royal Sovereign replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This mix should be subtitled "or, Link Does Electroclash." For some reason this tune is so dead-on reminiscent of Ladytron and Felix da Housecat one can't help but wonder if it would do well in a New York club. Good stuff! -

This one made me laugh out loud. Is that bad? Ha, ha, ha... -
OCR00766 - Earthworm Jim 2 "Wormaphobic Disorder"
Royal Sovereign replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Nice job remixing a hard track (the "Anything But Tangerines" theme) with some inspired synths and a surprisingly danceable sensibility. Great stuff with this one -- highly recommended! -
OCR00286 - Final Fantasy VI "The Arab Painting"
Royal Sovereign replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Dear god...this is superb. My misgivings about turning Relm's Highland-bagpipe overtones and turning them into Arab ones aside, the two themes put together and given a twisted Middle Eastern is pure genius. From the instrumentation to the inspired combining (you heard me right, kids)of the two themes -- wow! One almost expects someone to scream out "I am the Mad Abdul Al-Hazred! IA, IA, CTHULHU FHTAGN! " Oh nevermind. Anyway, excellent stuff! -
OCR00206 - Final Fantasy VI "Terra in Black"
Royal Sovereign replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I was frankly blown away by this one...it's one of the better FF-VI mixes out there, in my opinion. The intro is sublime, and the guitar that comes in is an inspired touch that elevates this mix to the next level of greatness. Highly, highly recommended for the FF fan! -
OCR00969 - Wolfenstein 3D "Nazi Requiem"
Royal Sovereign replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Deliciously creepy, implaceably melancholy...this mix is daring in all respects. Using clips from "Triumph of the Will" was an inspired touch, as well. As a World War II buff, I can tell you this mix gave me cold chills -- and that's a good thing. VERY well done!!! -
OCR00615 - Wizards & Warriors "It's Knighttime"
Royal Sovereign replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I was a fan of the source material (the first fire-cave) when I was a boy, so hearing this comes as a pleasant surprise. This remix is an exceptional one that I like a lot. The unique instrumentation makes it like something off the soundtrack to a modern horror movie (it does sound scary, doesn't it?!). Very, very good work. -
OCR00832 - Dragon Warrior III "Flight of Destiny"
Royal Sovereign replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ramia's Theme was one of the more breathtaking songs out of the NES vanguard, but this remix is so sublime and perfect one could almost call it an improvement on the original. From the soaring strings to the weeping harp, this song is beautiful in every single facet of its existence. Bravo!!! -
OCR00943 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Her Azure Eyes"
Royal Sovereign replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
One could almost see an orchestra playing by Azure Lake...on Xanax and with a deejay. Ha, ha! In all seriousness, this is one of my fave remixes: a lovely, happy, bouncing rendition of one of my fave songs from Sonic III. You don't need Prozac -- just listen to this song, and you'll feel happy! -
OCR00882 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Sonik Azure"
Royal Sovereign replied to Disco Dan's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Yes, 'creative' is the key word here... it sounds like Hootie and the Blowfish mixed with late 90's synths and a carefree sensibility worthy of Oasis...all with a piano at the end! But I must say it all holds together beautifully -- a delicious piece of ear-candy. -
OCR00067 - Mega Man 2 "Flash Fire"
Royal Sovereign replied to Joe Redifer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I'm not exactly sure which it was about it, but it has to be the dissonant chorus that puts this as but a mediocre do-over of Flash Man's stage in my book. Yes, it does have good points, but is far too "busy" or even noisome to be the true heir of Flash Man's stage. -
OCR00848 - Mega Man 2 "Metal Man Goes Clubbing"
Royal Sovereign replied to Disco Dan's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
...now THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call 'breathtaking.' The song is absolutely superb, from its on-the-mark conversion of the famous intro, to the soaring and darklit finale that utterly completes this excellent magnum opus of Disco Dan. A trance beat set to the original sound of Metal Man's stage provides not just a great, albeit overlooked idea, but also gives fodder for the idea that such work could very well do well in the mainstream -- released, for instance, on an album or other collection. Disco Dan is an absolute genius. -
OCR00364 - Mega Man 2 "Stainless Steel"
Royal Sovereign replied to Saunders's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Can we say..."Electroclash?" This mix is just plain fun to listen to -- the styling is unique, with its deliberate attempts to keep the 8-bit sound intact (the backbeat at the intro, for instance). VERY good stuff! It certainly and deservedly stands out. -
OCR01085 - Mega Man 3 "Magnet Man Goes West"
Royal Sovereign replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Positively brilliant! Sparkling with a dancable, deleriously happy beat, this remix can be truly called something brought from the Twentieth to the Twenty-First century, while still exuding that coy innocent sweetness found only in the Mega Man series. It should be said that one the most enigmatic songs out of Mega Man 3 is Magnet Man's stage. The stage itself is break-your-controller hard, and features a villian that is both mad-looking and just plain mad (like when he uses his magnetism ability -- )It comes as a surprise, therefore, that the music for the stage is so giddily happy. Disco Dan's superb remix for this song comes as a surprise as well. Instead of merely taking the original song and filtering it through another medium, he comes out with a tune that actually enhances the way the original feels.
