  1. I bought all of the CDs (OSTs 1&2, the voice mix arrange, and the arrange album) like three weeks ago and haven't even opened them yet. Maybe I should?
  2. Late to this thread. Just adding my sentiments to those who've already stated that Gray was one of the most defining members of OCR to many of its visitors. He was the first person here to give me strong technical assistance on my tracks and really expanded my knowledge. He'll be missed.
  3. Was that you who was inspired by the drunk dialing? I thought I heard "WesPip". HAH THAT DRUNK MESSAGE GUY IN EP35 WAS ME! had to say it.
  4. *assumes angst position* No amusing impressions of CompyFox? Listening now. Speaking of "live", Rayza and Aurora once had an unffocial "live show" that was just kind of like "If you're online call in and we'll add you to the Skype chat". I'll leave more comments when the show's done. Edit: What happened to Christian's Mystic Quest mix? ohshit OLR post
  5. http://line6.com/promos/rotm/ Every month, they're apparently releasing a free refill. You need to sign up, though.
  6. Uh no. He wants to find out how you can clear the reverb trails early, if I properly read the post.
  7. The funny thing is that Reason isn't actually all that cheap. And gentlemen, play nice. If the original poster has any more questions, then we can reply to them. If we're going to have a slugfest about sequencers, we can do it elsewhere.
  8. But Compyfox did give a fair assessment at the end of his most recent post: That does not contradict what Zircon said about FLStudio. It's nice to know that FLStudio has its defenders as well as its detractors, but of all of the sequencing software mentioned on OCRemix, FLStudio frankly needs the least defending. FLStudio's value for money really speaks for itself, and it's mentioned all over these forums. Occasionally, people mention Reason as #2, but I think that it's a pretty far, far down the list #2.
  9. Man, you don't even know OMG SLANDER!!!!!!
  10. When a statement like, "FLStudio users unite" when it's rather obvious that FLStudio users are already the majority, some people just kind of want to go . This *is* a religious war, though -- which sequencer to use. It's like your "Which is the best OS" war.
  11. I think it's Zircon waking up.
  12. Well Compy, there are a bunch of us who use Reason, and despite what anyone says, a decent handful of extremely talented people use Cubase, Ableton, and Cakewalk products. The unfortunate reality is that Image Line has price-cut the competition while providing a competent product, which has attracted people from this community (which consists of people mostly of ages 13-19 who don't have big incomes). It's funny from my perspective to see you spaz out like this, but a lot of other people get offended. I can get annoyed a bit at the FL evangelizing that goes on around here too but just keep up the discussion and talking about the other alternatives and some people will listen. Cakewalk Project5 will break through yet. If it ran on Mac, I'd try it.
  13. You guys would probably not believe it, but my music skills have increased exponentially because I've been able to look at example files.
  14. FLStudio users are the majority. Frankly, I'd be interested to see more than one person start using Project5.
  15. Actually, Dave said he wants to start rotating the front page spotlights more frequently so that old projects can receive fresh attention. EDIT: PLEASE KEEP VOTING, GUYS! We're still way behind this month. VGDJ will be back soon... If you can't do a full show, then it might not be a bad idea to throw in a quick mini with a full song once a week, just to remind people that yes, the show is alive, but the hosts are busy.
  16. Uh Hi thread, I just listened to VGDJ #35. I think I missed #34 in the process, though. I'd have to double-check this. ... but I just read the thread too, and it's a bit disappointing to know that The Wingless is gone! He's a real heartbreaker, let me tell you. I didn't think you'd play my phone message, either. I know, I've totally lost the "called in the most number of times to VGDJ" award now, but that doesn't mean you have to play every message I leave, darlings. Okay, back to work... got a few papers to read and write up. Hope you find a new host soon, I'm looking forward to a new episode.
  17. Then you're seriously best off starting with the programs you've already used, unless there's some serious deficiencies with them that prevent extendability. After you make a few songs that you're happy with, you can begin deciding if the program that you know is too limiting for your purposes.
  18. First thing... learn a program. You probably won't make any music, but you'll learn some fundamentals. Once you understand the basic terminology, then you can read something like Zircon's Remixing Tips Compendium. Also, if you choose a particular program, you should be able to find sample song sources to grab and download. Some remixers are willing to share their source files if you ask them. I don't suspect that Jeremy Soule's going to give you source files anytime soon, but keep an eye out. Many remixers on this site are extremely accessible and are glad to talk about their craft, provided that you demonstrate a willingness to learn and a dedication to practicing.
  19. When I got a USB MIDI controller (PCR-80), I had no problems with getting it to work. I have Reason 3.0 and they changed the MIDI engine, but you should be able to select your device from the Preferences->MIDI section. I used to have Reason 2.5 on Windows (I also had the Mac version) and on both 2.5 and 3.0, Mac and Windows, worked without a hitch. Is your controller recognized by your OS? Also, make sure that the track you want to play is selected using the little keyboard icon.
  20. Non-weighted keys (synth keys) are light, are usually made of plastic, and are spring-loaded. Semi-weighted keys are heavy and are spring-loaded. Weighted keys (or hammer-action keys) are heavy, and there is a mechanical mechanism set up such that you get the "clunk" when you depress the key. The clunk is a simulation of a hammer hitting a string on a piano. The hammer action requires a lot of space, so there are very few small, inexpensive boards out there with hammer action. Although there are some pretty good hammer-action keys out there on controllers and digital pianos, the real thing is much nicer. The weight allows you to play with more expression, since it's easier to press the keys such that you get different velocities when you can feel the weight.
  21. That's not a mixer, by the way. I was thinking of getting one for a while but hesitated on it.
  22. Software: Reason 3 Logic Pro 7 Audacity, I guess, but Audacity sucks and won't go through my audio interface. Some AUs that I can't think of because I rarely use them. Hardware: Edirol PCR-80 Eurorack UB802 Echo MIA Midi Computer: PowerMac G5 dual 1.8GHz
  23. Celebrate a little bit, zircon. The little victories always lead up to the larger ones. Obviously you shoudln't throw a party but celebration is as simple as thinking, "I've got an awesome melody going on here."
  24. fix'd ohshi, those are NOTES, not chords. No wonder I was confused. I was entering into my sequencer, "E chord. G chord. B chord. C chord. E chord..." and wondering, "Hmm, this doesn't quite match up with what I know from music theory." But still, it's totally fun to play, even if it sounds like crap.
  25. LET ME SAVE THIS TO MY DRIVE NOW. It's the kind of thing I've needed for a while.
