I gave some ideas in my opening post about what you can do about your story. The instruments as mentioned don't sound like they're in the same space - you may want to give them a particular space to put them in and match the reverb and the levels accordingly. Instead of fade-outs on the percussion, have it thin out and stop. Things like that. You may think that you can't compose anything original but I think that this piece needs more. Add more variations. Make it culminate into something. I personally don't believe that this will make it past the judges yet, it still needs some fine-tuning. The track isn't bad but could use more to maintain the interest level with the listener.

I would play a Peggle RPG.

I bought this game yesterday. I'm a few days late to the party but I can say that it's definitely an addictive few hours so far. It is actually kind of underwhelming when you first start out since the levels are so easy, but as you expand your repetoire it gets more and more fun. I think this is one of those games that you want to play with friends to get the most benefit from, because they will give you suggestions of items to solve puzzles that you won't think of yourself.

my girlfriend is telling me that there isn't actually an Aion demo.
-
so when are we starting that ska band?
-
What's the free demo for Aion like? I presume that there's a trial. I'm downloading Windows 7 now (yay MSDN Academic Alliance) so I can install it and maybe try this game this weekend.

Then, playing MMORPGs is like watching TV for some people.

The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!

what ?? why did you act like you're the OP -
My first thought was that this mix sounds rather low-fi - that of course changes as the track develops. The track is relatively enjoyable. It has a good sound to it. The instrument choice is nice. Hmm, I think my first thought is that the instruments don't fall well into the "space". You have a percussion-like beat in the background that fades in and fades out, for example - when it's at its full volume, it still sounds very up-front and has a lot of presence. It also fades out. What happens then is that I'm not really sure what the story is supposed to be - is it instruments playing in a chamber while the guy playing the percussion kind of moves around? I like the clean guitar that introduces the song, as well as the piano. I think they are well-placed. There's an electric guitar that sounds a bit too sharp for my taste - in addition, there's some kind of explosion that happens in the introduction and I'm not sure it fits. The other issue I have is thematic - the same motif is repeated many times throughout the song. In fact, it's the only prominent theme in the song. I think some more variety will benefit the song greatly. Anyway, that's my quick take on it. Good work so far, keep working on it.

Agree with my previous posters. Too much hard panning of the instruments make the beginning of the mix unbalanced. The backing synth as was mentioned also annoys me a bit, I would try to cut down on the modulation that it has. The sounds are a bit muddy too, and sound too "far up front". I'd cut down on the reverb and the volume. I'm not much of a production person, but it's possible that you compressed your mix too much to make the instruments loud. The mix's integration of the two parts isn't strong at the moment - you start with one theme, and abruptly move into a new theme. The Terra's theme section is much better than the beginning half. I think it's because the source theme is good and the instrument (piano) is a bit more interesting. What I would consider for your next project is the following: - In addition to melody, put in more harmony. Use chords, or counterpoint and add some "fullness" to the sounds. - Also try adding some bass as well. - Listen to other people's music that you like and see if you can hear what they do with their songs. What instruments do they use? How do they play them? See if you can incorporate that into your own music. Good luck, it takes a lot of practice. Keep at it.

Of course it is which is why I'm asking for opinions in this thread, eh?

What's Metroid Reorchestrated?

If I played this I'd play it with my girlfriend and she doesn't like playing PVP. Hmmm.

The official date of release was the 22nd I believe, but I think there was a two-day preopening and they opened up the servers early. Predictably, there was no way they could handle the burst demand and the launch was pretty crowded. I'm a WoW player. What I want to know is if this game is worth putting some time into. I'd have to do more work than most to get it running (I'm on a Mac and I haven't installed Windows yet) so I want to know if it has some lasting power and is relatively solid coming out of the gate. I can't rename this thread myself unfortunately

Soundtrack competition for browser MMORPG - Interest?
Arcana replied to arias's topic in General Discussion
One thing you'll want to discuss with the artists as well is issue of ownership and intellectual property - who owns the tracks at the end of the day? Can the artist withhold his track from the game in the future, or does it become the property of the game's developer? etc. -
Apparently there's been an early release of Aion already and the general game is opening in a couple of days. I currently play WoW but a lot of people are talking about this game and I'm wondering if anyone has tried it yet. I would like to know if it's worth putting effort into a different variety of game like this one. I've read a few reviews already but I'm more interested in factors like the community and so forth. Regards,

Not-Just OCR but pretty much anything game-related lossless project
Arcana replied to MrMAGFest's topic in General Discussion
Is this for a personal private project or a public service? -
Sheet music like? Most of the big programs don't incorporate writing music with notation too well. You can use Finale or Sibelius for sheet music but I can't comment on their audio effects and mixing capabilities. Sonar and Logic (and GarageBand for that matter) also have notation as well. You know, I'd consider going to YouTube and keying in a bunch of searches for tutorial videos where people are using the software. I can't recommend any specific ones but watching other people actually using the software might give you a good idea of what you might feel comfortable with.

Soundtrack competition for browser MMORPG - Interest?
Arcana replied to arias's topic in General Discussion
I think it largely depends on what the original poster needs. Presumably there is absolutely no music in this game and it's up to the game's producer to tell the composer what music he wants. You have a problem right there if you go with a project - everyone's going to kind of do their own thing unless you coordinate very tightly. The upside, however, is that he'll probably be able to get a large number of tracks that can be incorporated into the game. Alternatively, if he holds a competition, he may have the competitors submit their ideas for a "main theme" and a few other themes (ex: map music, town music, whatever), choose the winner, and then go project-style and get the project participants to remix the winner's songs. -
Then again this was first proposed in January, but as far as I know it got revived and then Jade leveraged her leet skillz and got a bunch of people signed on before posting the grand announcement. It's the way most projects should be done honesetly. Recruit people... THEN post the thread to recruit more people.

Can we make this thread a list of people who can't/won't go? <- won't be going
