If Demoman is so overpowered, then everyone would play him

this is not how video games work

you should know this yourself just by looking at how many people don't play as sagat in sf4

also to clarify a SKILLED demoman is overpowered

So shoot at your targets with the pipes. It's very powerful and quite satisfying when you manage to lead a target properly.

Battle medic needles occasionally let me lead targets.

but... you play spray and pray battlemedic. i'm not seeing how that's any different :?

No, I use the vents to my advantage on Turbine and .. that's about it. Plus, spray and pray doesn't net you top score unless you're a demoman.

Now that's just not true. People play what they want to play. You think I play Pyro so much because he's the bestest and strongestest class ever? No. I'm pretty sure most pub players play whatever class they want with little regard to if it's overpowered or not. Or if it's actually helping the team or not...

I accept that Demoman is OP. It's not something I think needs to be fixed. All things considered, TF2 has pretty good balance. If you look at other games like Brawl with OP OP OP Meta-Knight it helps breaks the game because if you pick Ganondorf and play someone at the same skill level (I'm assuming a moderately-high level) who is using Meta-Knight, you're screwed.

Did I mention that I think Scouts are also OP? Would I want the game any other way? No.

Personally, I think Valve should focus more on bringing depth to 'the other classes'. And they are. Heavy is getting a spiffy new pair of gloves, along with the sandvich-toss. Maybe they'll give another toy for him. Maybe. Engineer might need something but we still have the Engineer update so I won't worry much about that one yet. Valve added compression blast to Pyro which is my favorite tool in TF2. Anyone who has played with me much knows I'm a compression blast fiend. I'm addicted and can never get enough.

Still, Pyro could benefit from some sort of burst damage with his flamethrower to encourage non W+M1 tactics and if Pyro could get some form of advanced mobility to aid in getting into ambush position, even if just the Backburner had it, I'd be happy. Most of you will probably disagree with the Pyro stuff. Oh well, I can dream.

The majority of SF4 players play high-tier SF4 characters. At a high level, Sagat is not really better than other high-tier characters. However, in Capcom vs. SNK2, Blanka and Honda are overpowered. Everyone plays just those two. If Demo is the only overpowered (high tier) character then everyone would play him. Most people don't intentionally handicap themselves; most people like to win.

The Pyro does not need any more buffs, period. The majority of TF2 players suck at using Pyro and STILL manage to do pretty decently...if they ever discovered that the "airbalst iz ston"...well, it'd be terrible.

@ zircon: I think a lot of people just play what is fun for them. If winning is the only determining factor in what's fun, I imagine they play the clearly higher-tier characters (be it a fighting game, FPS game, etc), but as for myself I enjoy playing classes/characters that have a flaw or two built in. It's no fun, for me, to win all the time.

I don't really think any of the classes in TF2 are overpowered or underpowered. Every class has their weaknesses and their strengths. Rock, paper, scissors, etc.

I really think that the second paragraph is what Zircon is trying to say. Even if demoman is considered the best class, it doesn't inherently mean that he's overpowered. Generally speaking, there is always going to be a "best of" in a videogame. This is only a problem when the margin between 'best' and 'worst' becomes nontrivial.

People still play the other classes, because they still have merit, because the game is fairly well balanced. Demoman does not break the game. That's usually the definition of overpowered.

For the lazy web serverist like me who doesn't want to generate thumbnails, but wants to offer something more visual to browse screenshots than a bunch of filenames, I present to you THIS!

How do I do it? Just copy and paste this code into a file called "index.php" and place it in a folder with your screenshots. Then make a subfolder called "thumbnails". (Depending on your server, you may need to CHMOD this 777)

Note: Code was written in like 5 minutes and probably has bugs.

EDIT: Oh, you can also use this to generate thumbnails for use in the forum! If you nose your browser into the thumbnails folder, you'll find the compressed images all sitting there waiting for you. Just make sure you look at the main page at least once before looking for the thunbnails.

you were i guess implying that you dont wanna use stickies to kill people but if youre a demoman that primarily relies on stickies to get kills you are a TERRIBLE demoman

pipes are much more deadly than stickies and guess what you actually have to aim those!

lol recently started playing him + not my most played class is different from not playing it often considering i've recently started playing him and so therefore i've been playing him often. i thought that much was within your realm of understanding but apparently not

you seem to go back and forth a lot with your statements. you suggest nerfs in the form of pipes not blowing on direct hits and 150hp some pages back yet when I play against you in the server and kill you with stickies you take the issue up with stickies instead. Perhaps you should clarify with yourself what exactly you want nerfed because apparently you just want to take away the whole demo's arsenal further showing that you have no clue about the class' strengths and weaknesses. and now you are saying that skilled demoman are overpowered? yeah, right.

sounds more like someone's just angry that they're dying all the time and finding excuses instead of actually looking at what they're doing wrong or finding ways around the demo's strengths. is this the part where i end my post with yawn?

it's because if the stickies don't kill you the pipes willllllll

is there some rule somewhere that the better you are at this game the dumber you have to be
