Vyse of Arcadia Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Hey, guys! A couple of us were talking on IRC about how awesome it would be to have a meetup at this year's Dragon*Con. For those of you who are too lazy to click links, Dragon*Con is a large(spans 3 hotels) sci-fi/fantasy/general nerdery convention held in downtown Atlanta, Georgia every Labor Day weekend (September 4 - September 7 this year.) I'm not exactly the most active member of the community, but I'm more than willing to organize a meetup at Dragon*Con, not that I imagine it takes terribly much organization. Who's interested? Quote
Drack Posted June 22, 2009 Posted June 22, 2009 Finally, a meetup in Atlanta! Count me in. Being a Georgia Tech student, how could I pass up this opportunity? Quote
EdgeCrusher Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Ill try to make it down there if i can get off work long enough. Quote
Meteo Xavier Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 What do you all do during these meetups? Quote
Liontamer Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 We may be doing PAX, otherwise I might have tried this. Quote
Vyse of Arcadia Posted June 29, 2009 Author Posted June 29, 2009 What do you all do during these meetups? I haven't the foggiest. But it's Dragon*Con, I'm sure we'll find something! Or maybe just stand around and talk about video games and music like the video game and music dorks we are. Quote
Drack Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Finally a meetup in Atlanta, and no one's showing any interest? Shame. There must not be much of an OCR presence around here. Quote
EdgeCrusher Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I know Beatdown organized a dragoncon meetup one year, but according to the forums he hasn't logged in since december 08. Quote
Liontamer Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Have some faith. I'm sure we can try something down the line after DragonCon too. Quote
K.B. Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I have a four-day weekend then. I am considering hitting N GA for some hiking/camping, so I could spend part/most of Fri doing this convention thing (whatever that entails, never been) as a pit stop. Put me down like Oasis. Quote
K.B. Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I heard from the new guy at work that DragonCon is like your conventional con except exceedingly mischievous and drunken. Or at least so after hours. If anyone can validate this I will renew interest. Also, bump. Quote
Kizyr Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Well, DragonCon is rather a cut above any other convention. It's definitely run far, far better than any other convention I've been to (the possible exception is MAGFest, but the two are so different in size and style that you can't really compare). Had there been a meetup last year, I would've gone. But, unfortunately I don't think I'll be going this year... KF Quote
TheHands Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Another forum I post at is having a meet up there, and I can't do that either. I already do New York ComicCon, Ubercon, AWP, and when no one else from my magazine can cover it, NYAnimeFest/Big Apple Con. DragonCon sounds pretty big and all, it's just too far a commute and too much time off. Good luck though, hope your meet up is worth the time to organize. Quote
TehDonut Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 bump... It's coming up..........................next weekend. Quote
Brycepops Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I know Beatdown organized a dragoncon meetup one year, but according to the forums he hasn't logged in since december 08. I talk to him on xfire/aim almost everyday. I could tell him to pop in here if you want. Quote
Beatdown Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I know Beatdown organized a dragoncon meetup one year, but according to the forums he hasn't logged in since december 08. Two actually, and has it really been that long? Also screw you guys because this may be the one year that I cannot get the time off work to attend and MAN do I really wanna attend. Quote
