Syndicated.Corpse
Okay, I don't know where exactly to put this so hopefully I don't get in trouble. I'm a newb when it comes to making music, I know the basics of making music with FL7. But I'm looking for someone who has the time to teach me about the in and outs of music making programs, devices, apparatuses, etc. A turor of sorts. Eep! Don't flame me. Lol. P.S The reason why I ask is because my friend who use to make music with me up and quit. So now it's about me making the music from scratch. Gario
Well, if you're looking for pointers, often this is the best place to start . Read through those and practice your craft - you'll get the hang of it soon enough.
Rozovian
Also, Workshop for any sound/mixing/composing-related questions ad problems, the FL subforum for FL-specific things, the remix feedback board for video game remixes you've made/working on, the other feedback baord for stuff that isn't vgm remixes. We're both there, as are others, to help.
prophetik music
continuing to ask questions is the best way to get your questions answered. also, your sig is too large. i'd suggest shrinking it to the 250px limit before darkesword changes it to a line of text or something. Syndicated.Corpse
Thanks guys!! Anyone know where I can find a full version of FL7 or above? I mean I am sure there are better programs then that. I have a crack version that sucks.
prophetik music
you might not want to post that fact. you could always buy it from imageline, since they're the ones that sell it. fl studio's website would help. google assists on this kind of questions too. Rozovian
iirc, Zephyr has some FL discount link in his sig. There's also Reaper, which works for free and their discounted license isn't very expensive. Look around for the Workshop for DAW threads and info on whatever else you'll need. prophetik music
you can get fl products for 10% off through the affiliate link that any customer of fl has in their 'my fl studio' account on the fl website.

Arcana
FLStudio is pretty cheap as far as music software goes. Just a heads-up.
Moseph
My little brother just told me about a freeware program called Linux MultiMedia Studio (which is also available on Windows despite the name) that I'd never heard of before. It apparently doesn't record audio but has some sort of VST capabilities. I haven't tried it out, but it looks sort of like a poor man's Reason. prophetik music
that's pretty damn poor, then. at least in my opinion.
Gario
Reason doesn't have VST support, so it's a step up from that, at least
Syndicated.Corpse
Newfeg question. What is VST? @_@
LuketheXjesse
VST is the standard format used by MOST digital audio workstations for effects, equalizers, etc. VSTi is more advanced stuff like virtual instruments. You simply load them up in whatever track in your DAW you want to apply them to. VST's and VSTi's come in the form of .dll plugins. The only DAW off the top of my head that doesn't use VST is Reason. Reason has its own format called ReFills. There's also Reaper, which works for free and their discounted license isn't very expensive. I also suggest Reaper. I use it for my Metal music. Dyne
Digital audio workstation, actually.
Syndicated.Corpse
Lol! Thanks for that Dyne. I am all up on the Reaper Tutorial by DeathbySpoon. I'm all excited. Though, curiously, all music programs use a DAW system?
prophetik music
DAW = digital audio workstation = reaper, fl studio, reason, etc. the music programs ARE the DAW. alternatively, DAW also refers to a computer set up solely for music work. Rozovian
Basically, a DAW is a music program that does EVERYTHING. Audio editor, sequencer, plugin host, mixer... Audacity, for example, is just an audio editor. It has some basic midi tools but those were still being tested last I heard. Anvil Studio is, iirc, just a sequencer. Doesn't do plugins. Just midi writing. Unless I'm wrong about what they can do, they're not DAWs. Note that having a sample library and/or built-in/bundled effects isn't necessary for it to be a DAW. Those are things you may have to get yourself. Fortunately, the internet is full of free stuff. Some of it is even good. edit: realizing that the remixing faq/tutorial me and zephyr were writing would be really helpful here. You might find this unfinished version useful, just ignore our comments about what needs to be added/changed and stuff. Thought I had a v1.3 somewhere. Maybe I'll have time to dig it up and update it this week. edit2: reading through it, there's a lot I need to change. Most of it is ok, but I'd check with other sources to get stuff like the order of effects right. The part about samplers is a little confusing because sometimes we've misspelled samples as samplers. Should be fixed it later versions, but that's the version I've got online.
