Brandon Strader
I think my first post was probably equally silly

Garpocalypse
ELP!!!! I always thought the boss music of FFVII had a little ELP in it but really, your post is... unsubstantiated... to say the least. BTW, Toccatta was NOT written by ELP but WAS supported by Ginastera after hearing ELP's arrangement of it. The more you know!
Melbu Frahma
Yes, because that sounded exactly like Cosmo Canyon. Or Temple of the Ancients. Or Wutai. Or Tifa's Theme. ELP is cool though.
Gario
To his credit, Nobuo Uematsu did mention that ELP was one of his biggest inspirations (not sure where, might've been in the Advent Children extras or something, in an interview). It's very likely that he was influenced by them.

However, if you start a thread like this you have to do your homework and illustrate your point. Pointing out that Toccatta from BSS sounds kind of like FFVII is pretty far off. I don't think Ginastera's work is anywhere in FFVII at all.
jmr
Related: ELP: Dr Mario: ELP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFal0CC4Cmw#t=237s Metroid: I suspect Hip Tanaka was an ELP fan.
OutSpoken
I've owned Brain Salad Surgery for a while now and it always struck me that a lot of video game composers must be ELP fans. Pretty decent album.
Meteo Xavier
Every prog j-composer is an ELP fan. Check out Tarkus and listen to the SOM boss music or some of Motoi Sakuraba's early re-arrange albums (they sound similar to me at least).
Dhsu
Yeah, definitely reminded me of the SoM boss music, and also FFV's final boss music.
Nabeel Ansari
You heard an organ, some drums, and a fast tempo, then cried FFVII? :/
Otakatt
FFV's final boss music. That's what I was reminded of! But it didn't sound like the whole soundtrack of FFVII, no. XD ETA: Also I've never heard of ELP but this is some awesome stuff. >> ETA2: And parts of Toccata vaguely remind me of FFIV's Red Wings the more I listen... lazygecko
Prog rock was video game music before vgm existed.
DrumJ8
ELP http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt-sfNULEzE This sounds like the Chocobo Theme. Nothing is original and I don't mean that in a bad way, I just mean it as fact (I'm a huge Nobuo Uematsu fan too). We're all influenced by what we listen to. Everything comes from something else. I wonder what it would sound like if a hermit dood started composing after living in solitude for 30 years ..
