Esperado
I noticed there are like 3 or 4 tiers of membership on soundcloud, are any of them really worth paying for? does it significantly benefit you as a musician in putting yourself out there at all? 29 euro isnt really that bad of a price if it does help you in some significant way. Of course, you get more play time ,so there is that i guess.
zircon
I'm not sure if there is a significant promotional benefit... but being able to upload more music and have better embed options & analytics is nice.
Brandon Strader
Nope. Facebook, youtube, if you need to host files try box. You get 5gb free space. Edited April 13, 2013 by Brandon Strader
Kanohi
I feel like getting a higher tier of SoundCloud helps more for sharing tunes if you're already established as an artist. I don't really see any other benefits unless you REALLY want to have a ton of music up in one place
Chimpazilla
I upgraded to the first tier of Soundcloud Pro, mainly so I could change my music files without deleting all the comments (as I make mixing fixes). And a few days later, I find I'm getting spammed by new "followers" that are just ads for dating/sex services. I wonder if the events are related... I've had my SC account for two years and this never happened before. Anyone else? Any advice? (aside from deleting SC) Here's my "new follower"
Garpocalypse
I upgraded to the first tier of Soundcloud Pro, mainly so I could change my music files... I would only upgrade my soundcloud for a month if it let me delete some of those garbage WIPS i put on there. Is there a way to do that? I haven't figured out how to do it yet. But I'm freaking out about this fake follower business... is there any way to block that, aside from muting them individually? Very freaked out about this... edit: just emailed their support... Esperado
i JUST got one of those too. i think it must be a recent thing and not related to the pro account. its nice that you get to try it for free. does it reset the plays when you update a song? i might actually do it for a month if it doesnt reset it. once i get enough updated wips that is. (aside from deleting SC)Here's my "new follower" Same issue with fake followers right here, so probably not related events. I like Soundcloud Lite because I can replace tracks with updated versions and use the Spotlight feature. Analytics are ok too. I think Lite is a good value for active musicians. Nope, it doesn't reset anything, the file change is transparent... which is the main feature I wanted. That way you don't have wip #1, wip #2, wip #3 etc., you can just keep updating the file. (but honestly, I would only do this on nearly complete tracks. If you change the track significantly, like new arrangement, then the comments will be weird and misplaced. I only do this on tracks I'm just about ready to submit. For true "wips" I upload them to Box instead of SC.) So when you say you just got one of those too, do you mean the bogus followers? I guess that's one way to boost your follower count, but jeez, it's disgusting (at least to me).
Esperado
yea , the bogus followers . i just got one. i only have like 8 followers so i was all excited until i realized it was some sort of ad for porn sites. gross, but it does boost follower count, they seem to delete themselves relatively quick though, so its useless in that sense as well. i might wait until i have a large buffer of updated mixes before i use the free month of pro to update my songs. Modus
Well after having this discussion I looked into re-buying Lite, but I only see two tiers now: Pro and Pro Unlimited. Plebeian Pro seems to be the same cost as Lite was, so I'm assuming it has the same features, or maybe even more. Cool.
