Starbound!

Starbound is a game that is sort of a spiritual successor to Terraria, and the beta just came out today!

Anyone else excited about it?

I think everyone is excited for it but wishes it had been Terraria DLC

It's #1 on my wishlist now for steam games.

I had pre-ordered this months ago. Being an upgrade of terraria, I'm super excited. They added all sort of thing so you really learn new things. IT's like bigger terraria.

Edit: But it is not the same game as terraria and only 1 develloper of terraria is on starbound

I'm waiting to play until my sister in college is done with finals. We've played Terraria so much together, and we're hoping that this will carry the fun even further (not that Terraria goes away, mind you).

From what I've seen of it so far, Starbound's a heck of a lot harder than Terraria.

Having said that, fun as all get out.

Yeah the first boss (after building the distress beacon) is RIDICULOUSLY strong considering how early you can fight him.

Looks fun, though I'm having a hard time figuring out what its emphasis (like how Terraria has more combat/loot than Minecraft) is at a glance. It looks like you can do a lot of things.

Too many things.

Minerals are too rare.

Lucked out in finding a dungeon with a lot of gold ore in it, managed to get enough to make me a golden pickaxe.

Need a lot of iron for the next armor set. No idea where to find armor. Mining doesn't seem as easy as with Terraria. Not by a long shot.

Found a cool unique sword that decimates most things.

Found a cool tech ability. Found some poop which costs $50 to 3D print (don't ask) Found a traveling merchant, bought clothes from him, and killed him on accident.

Found a castle with a king, killed the king, and wear his crown.

I found one really amazing chest that had a bunch of goodies in it, including a harmonica. Playing the abc files seems super buggy though, most of them make the game crash.

Minerals get more common as you travel to different planets with higher threat levels. Around 5 or so you'll find iron ores all over the place.

Also, not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but any one else think Starbound's logo is super slick?

i can host a server on and off, nothing really suitable for more than little multiplayer expiditions though

I found more Iron than I can handle

Mined down to a flesh pocket on a level 8 planet. Found a lot of minerals, but I'm looking for Silver so I can make the silver armor. It is stronger than the avian armor (loinclothes and shit)

Someone said the leather armor is better though, which makes no sense to me. That can't be the case, can it? The silver armor has 10 armor per piece. It's already stopped me from being an insta-kill just by having 2 pieces, they do about 20 damage to me now on the level 8 planet.

The defense on leather armor is currently 13, which seems to be a bit too high. It'll probably end up getting lowered some in a future patch.

Yeah Leather Armor is the best tier 1 armor you can get and it also lets you survive on moons and snow planets without having to spam campfires or anything like that. It will probably get nerfed.

Leather is so rare though. You can't just find it in the ground like the other minerals. It doesn't have a really high drop rate. How many do you need for the leather armor?

33 leather for the whole set. Also, you can dual wield hunting knives, so...go have fun. :3

I just looked for a midi to ABC converter. ABC files are basically text files with a particular type of notation so you can put pretty much any song you want into the game.

So far I'm liking this game a lot. Although I'm still angry about spending an hour fighting the Penguin UFO, only to have the item disappear before I got to it.

I'm also waiting for an inventory editor to come out so I can regain the piano i lost to glitches.

9 out of 10 abc files I've tried to play have made the game crash

edit: Tried playing the banjo part you posted and it made the game crash.

Normally the only thing that crashes the game for me are ABC files with multiple tracks. All of the files I've made work perfectly fine for me.

I started playing this game again and it looks like the regular pre-release build is going to remain as it is until 1.0 is ready. Anyone interested in some multiplayer?
