Bahamut Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Anyone else pick up this glorious game? Shit is hard as fuck - so far I've made it up to the fourth stage on normal, and the 7th stage on easy. Edit: Now I beat 7 stages on easy, but they don't let you get to the 8th on easy mode apparently. Quote
suzumebachi Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 oh it's out already? how's the music? Quote
Bahamut Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 The music is good stuff so far of course - kudos to Jake Quote
Bigfoot Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Yet another title I need to pick up. Dammit, I'm so poor right now because of all of these good games coming out. Btw, where did you get it? It doesn't release at BBY until the 20th. Quote
Bahamut Posted November 15, 2007 Author Posted November 15, 2007 Got it at Gamestop - release date was two days ago, although I think it got to stores yesterday. Quote
Bigfoot Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Oh well, I'll just get it on the 20th. I'll get paid by then. Quote
BardicKnowledge Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I agree completely -- the game is absolutely amazing. Difficult as hell, too -- a tribute to the gaming days of old. And Jake's music is perfect, with just enough nods toward original tracks to make the game feel like the tribute that it is. Quote
Bahamut Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 So, I unlocked original Contra, Super C, and secret character Probotector . Damn I love this game. Quote
danimal cannon Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 spoooilorsz I unlocked those as well, I also got some interview where they talk about how videogame cover bands like to cover contra, also I unlocked some OTHER character, some chick. When you select probotector you can change his color by pressing up and down on the character select screen, also the original contra, the sound is fucked spoilleros end Quote
Ramaniscence Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Holy crap this gmae is repeteadly kicking my ass on EASY. I'm getting the hang of it...but damn. Quote
Neo Samus Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Have you guys tried the Konami Code yet to see if it works in this game? Quote
lazygecko Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 They probably implemented it, Heretic style. Quote
Ramaniscence Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Have you guys tried the Konami Code yet to see if it works in this game? If you play medium, and pause the game, and put it in, you die. True story. Quote
danimal cannon Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 under the right circumstances. it does something if you do it correctly. Like if you dont have an upgraded weapon. Quote
BardicKnowledge Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Alright, gang -- I'm at 31/40 of the challenges, and am stuck. How on earth do you run fast enough to clear speed run 5? It's the lab waterfall climb. Oh, and I hate hostages -- they should all die. Limited ammo isn't terrible though. Also, on Normal difficulty, I'm at what I believe is the end of the game and need help. Spoilers follow: After the acid climb, you fight a boss that appears to be a remake of Super C Stage 6's boss (but this time from the standard perspective). I've knocked out the side snakes (once), and apparently the teeth. But there's something above that that I can't figure out how to hit at all -- any advice would be much appreiciated (if you don't want to post spoilers, please PM me).end spoilers. Anyway, it's an extremely solid game, and I can't wait to see what beating _all_ of the challenges does. Someday I might even play the game on hard...if I quit being absolutely raped on Normal. Quote
Avatar of Justice Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 I'm able to make it to stage 7 on normal (haven't touched easy at all and don't plan to), and I keep getting screwed by dying and having only the pea-shooter. Perhaps I will make it to stage 8 tomorrow.... Quote
Avatar of Justice Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 For anyone who has gotten to stage 9, is it just me or is the dash move that the first mid-boss or whatever you fight in the stage does unavoidable? Quote
BardicKnowledge Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 ^To dodge that, constantly change height -- I can beat that first mini-boss without losing a life by confusing the hell out of him. Quote
JoeFu Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Just ordered this game from Amazon. I can't wait for it to get here as I get it the day before my Thanksgiving break. Quote
OceansAndrew Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 Picked it up last night and got pwnt pretty hard; I finished it on easy level and started working my way through normal now, and a few challenges here and there. I love the art style on a lot of the more "open" stages, such as the jungle and city, as well as the underwater stuff, and the music is pretty good, with the exception of the waterfall area music, which is frickin amazing. I'm going to remix the hell out of that one. Quote
Bigfoot Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 OMG this game is ridiculously hard. I love it. Quote
Brycepops Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Damn you all. I ordered it from Amazon over the weekend, and I don't know when it's supposed to get here :'( Quote
Torzelan Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 This game is awesome. I've only tried (and finally beat) Easy so far, but it's really cool how you'll reach a boss, get your ass completely obliterated and all continues lost and be like "no way, what!? It's not even possible to beat man! Easy my ass...", put the DS down and sit drooling for a while - then return and just "figure it out", beating the boss and feeling sooo good It's so unfair and unforgiving too, impossible to beat on the first run without knowing what's going to happen. Like that first boss, it's not exactly the easiest thing to dodge [spoil]the attacks from above and the blue "flames" on the ground[/spoil] if you're not prepared! It's short enough that restarting from the beginning isn't too bad, but not too short and definitely packed with cool stuff. I love the Challenges too, and I sure as hell am not giving up until they're all cleared (only got the first two unlocks so far; and are they sweet or what?) but it's obvious that it'll take a while! Some of them contain the last areas from Normal and Hard though so I think I'll try to get through at least Normal first. Music is ace, obviously, and I'm really looking forward to a soundtrack being available somewhere, somehow. One of my fav. games for the DS for sure. On the other hand I have a boatload of fav. games for the DS, such a great system! Quote
