That's really great news. I love this piece, and can't wait to hear more of your combined efforts. Also, the person talking about the blip at, what 2:15, is right. I do hear something, whether it's supposed to be there or not, I don't know, but I did hear what he was talking about. There is actually a softer one at 3:59. But agian, it could just be the music and it stands out to me. ~Syruss

So it seems I am destined to return to this site to review. I had decided some time ago that my obsession with game music and their remixes was taking too much away from my life. And now you go and craft this epic piece. Words truly fail me when I listen to this piece. Given the bit rate, I think this bit of music is as perfect as can be expected. I'll be honest; I obtained this song as part of a mass "catching-up" that I initiated a day ago. As soon as I clicked play, I knew I had a Jeremy Robson piece. The orchestral section mixes perfectly with the choir. The pace of the song is stupendous. And it is one of the most powerful pieces I've heard in a long time. It's like the rare occasion when the product lives up to and surpasses the hype. Both artists, Jeremy and Derek Oren, are incredibly skilled. Anyone who doubts this has not yet listened to this piece of art. I would look forward to hearing anything you two ever create. However, should that never happen, I think that this piece is more than enough to commemorate your collaboration. Excellent work. 10 out of 10, hands down. ~Lord Syruss

OCR00426 - Final Fantasy VI "La Locura del Kefka"
Lord_Syruss_Khalai replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Well, where can I start? This is the song to which I owe my knowledge of OCremix's existance. A friend of mine told me about an excellent FF video called zombie. I was a little worried, but then when I say it, I realized that while it was great as a whole, it was the wong that really brought out Kefka's madness. Fortunately for me, it said where the sang was from in the end credits. After looking around for a few weeks, I realized that La Locura Del Kefka wasn't the first song I'd heard from OCremix. Notable ones included all of AE's Megaman 2 remixes, which I got of Napster back in the day. Anyways, back to the point, this is quite possible my favorite song on the whole site, and also, perhaps, my favorite remix. While there are many other remixes that may be stronger in one aspect or another, this one excels in every regard, topping them all. I also agree that it does an exquisite job of putting Kefka's derangement into audio form. The way the differant musical elements are brought together; how too much of this kind of mixing would just be chaos, noise. But it's just right, just at that edge....Like kefka's mind. This is an amazing remix, and I not only recommend that everyone hear it, but I demand it. 10 out of 10, +1 one for deliciousness. ~Lord Syruss Khalai -
OCR01356 - Final Fantasy VI "Seized with Fury"

Hmmm.... I've been listening to this song for a while now, and it's beyond me as to how I've missed commenting on it's greatness. I may be the only one who feels this was, but as an avid listener to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, I felt that this song really reminded me of their style. Just the way it was put together, with guitar, and then parts that seems more orchestral. But they went together well, since the orchestral was always heavy, very strong, so, while you do notice that it's accompanied my a metal guitar sound, it doesn't strike you as out of place in any way. Also, the way it ended strongly reminded me of TSO's style for ending music (or in some cases when they are just going to change tempo). Excellent job. I'm always up for music like this. 10 out of 10. ~Lord Syruss Khalai -
Good song. It seems, to me, like it's building up to the perverbial something, but never really breaks. It never seems to lose momentum, and keep going, until, at the end, it fades out. I really like the way that was done. AS I said, it's a good song. I'm going to have to go with an 8 out of 10. It's not really my thing, and keep in mind that it's an 8 in my mind; you may not agree with me. One of the weak points to a song that doesn't seem to change pace or lose/gain momentum is that it can feel repetitious at times. IN this case, I didn't feel that until the very end, so it's not too bad. All in all, not to shabby of a remix. ~Lord Syruss

OCR01358 - Final Fantasy VI "Little Painter Girl"

This song is pretty good. I like it mostly because it seems to be a "sad" song. Unlike many remixes that are upbeat. Maybe sad isn't the right word. Thoughtful, or reflecting maybe. But at the same time I feel a sense of reservation, a tinge of sadness. Like when the song playing during the credits is so emotional, and you're sad the movie is over. That kind of thing. As I was saying, I very much enjoy that kind of song. It's quite beautiful. That whole 1:38 thing, it sure does stand out. I think maybe it doens't belong in this song because it doens't seem to match the feel. After listening to the song a few times, however, it loses it's "missplacedness", as you become accustomed to it. At any rate, it was a risk, one that I woul not have taken myself, but in the end seems to work regardless. I'd say a 9 out of 10, since it's a very nice song, but for the most part, a little simpler than others. Don't get me wrong, simple is rarely synonomous with bad, and in this songs case, is one of it's important distinguishing factors. I do wish it were longer. I could listen to this song for quite a whie and not tire of it. Reflecting, I don't know if this type of remix of this perticular song could be not simple. At any rate, it's a wonderful song. I like it very much, and in my opinion, you have done a great job. ~Lord Syruss [Edit] You know, I'd like to revisit the whole 1:38 thing. After listening to this song a few more times, I really come to appreciate the variance. I have to say, it was a good decision on your part, as it changes the song a bit, but still lends to the beauty of it. Way to go on that. I really do like the melody of that section. [/Edit] [Edit] Well, this song really is a masterpiece. I truly love it now. I'm going to go ahead and give it a 10 out of 10. Man do I love this song. [/Edit] -
OCR01360 - Final Fantasy VI "Deadly Promises"

I have to say, I was a little worried at first, not having heard anything by this remixer, and also having it be a Terra remix. But I have to say that I found it to be pleasantly refreshing. The whole song was so differant from any Terra mixes I've heard that I didn't feel like I was listening to the same song....again. Anyways, I have to say that this was quite well done. 10 out of 10, for sure. ~Lord Syruss -
While I find this to be an interesting remix, and quite skillfully made, it's almost as if someone took a song that was meant to be epic and sound dengerous, and make a dance song out of it. Now, One WInged Angel and Techno are great, but while I didn't find Final Fantasy VII as mentally stimulating (visually, of course) as the previous Final Fantasy games, I have to admit that, aside from Kefka, and maybe not even him, Sephiroth is quite evil. Delusional and confused, but evil-y so... That being said, I also have to say that the original One Winged Angel is one of my favorite songs. I love the looks I get when playing it in my car. People really do look scared. However, I feel as if I'm commiting blasphemy by even listening to this remix. As I said, it's quite skillfully made, but I cannot enjoy it. I like the original way to much. Also, to be honest, I was glad that remixes of this song, for me at least, have been few and far between. Such is my commitment to the original. Do keep up the good work, it seems like many many people foudn this to be a good remix. Also, a side note for Diabolical Dr.Eccles, it is true that the literal translation from Japanese (dispite that it is Latin) to English doesn't make much sense, but, as many people no doubt know, that is true in very many songs that originate in Japan and make their way to the States, or any other place that is not, in fact, Japan. However, with a bit of word play, you can determine what is meant by the lyrics. As I said, this is just a side note. I will give this remix a 7 out of 10. Even though I didn't not find it to be compatable with my personal tastes, does not mean that it is a poor remix. As I have said, it is quite skillfully made. My own prejudice, however, keeps me from really enjoying it. ~Syruss [Edited so as to make more sense. 6:59:30 05/26/2005]

I think this is an excellent remix. True that it doesn't have the same feeling that the original was going for, but I have a certain respect for people who try something new, even if there are people who don't really like it. The Jenova remix from FF7 that was done in Piano is a good example. Listining to the original version of that, a piano remix is quite possibly the farthest thing from my mind, and I am a pianist. But regardless, I enjoyed it. This song is very nice because it's differant. It isn't as noisy (not in a bad way) as the original, and yet it's packed with emotion and feeling. I very much enjoy this remix, and I feel that Tuba Lin has done a great job, remixing a song and not only making a remix of it, but a remix that is differant enough from the original to be apprecited independantly while still "knowing its roots." Keep up the excellent work. 9/10. ~Syruss

It may be quite later than everyone elses posts, but I have to say that this...this...symphony experiance, is qiote possibly thegreatest I have ever heard. This song definately represents a story in and of itself. At the same time, it is quite representative of the game itself. It's as if the two things, song and game, are related, and closely, but one can be taken independantly of the other. This is an amazing accomplishment, this music. And I am now a fan of yours. Keep up the excellent work. ~Syruss

This is a great remix. Just amazing. But, someone help me please...the beginning of this song, the very beginning, sounds very much like another remix I've downloaded...but I can' think if which it is... Anyways, it's great, 9/10. This is a definate dL for anyone who either liked the game, the song, or ReMixes that are intense, and mellow, at the same time. Get it. ~Syruss

OCR00209 - Legend of Zelda "The Music of My Groin"
Lord_Syruss_Khalai replied to m68030's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Well, I understand that people like it, and it is amusing... That being said, I'm also going to admit that I don't really like it...at all. I know that it was made as a joke with no seriousness, and maybe it's cause I had my speakers all the way up when I put it on...(ouch), but it's just not my cup of tea (vodka). So, I doubt I will ever listen to it again... However, I am deeply disturbed that it could be compared to the like of Wayne's World and Austin Powers. Those movies are great. To people who enjoyed this song, keep on enjoying it...but, alas, I will not. ~Syruss -
...Mother of God... It's like...a smooth tasty milkshake...full of hidden razor blades and needles. In a good way. It's so differant...and cool. I love how it's just familiar, and yet it's sharpness challanges your senses...or...your ears...hopefully oyu know what I mean. This is a great tune, yet very unique, and very much not for everyone. If you love the avent-garde, probably strongly love in this case, it's a great song, otherwise it may just come out as electronica puree. I loved it, after the first time...even I had to aquire the taste. But it's so delicious. Hard-core 9/10 ~Lord Syruss Khalai

I think this is a great piece. I play the piano, and I only have a few problems. One was mentioned, and thats that it seems like the person playing this had their "foot on the pedal" a little to much. It makes for a great effect, but parts of it do run together. As far as a contrast between the lower and higher notes, I didn't really have a problem defferenciating between the two. Also, as far as it being fast, one thing that piano players will do so that the song doesn't sond monotonous is to speed up parts and slow down other parts. This song could be played all at the same speed, but then it would be repititious. Varying the play speed is a way to make one part stand apart from another, even if they are the same sequence of notes. And yeah, it was pretty soft, but it's not like that isn't easily remedied. Anyways, I'd have to give this remix a 9 out of 10. It's worth listening to many times. ~Lord Syruss Khalai

OCR00067 - Mega Man 2 "Flash Fire"
Lord_Syruss_Khalai replied to Joe Redifer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Well, this is very interesting. About a week ago I made a CD of Mega Man remixes. Now, I just started DLing MM from this site today, so I didn't have any of these songs. That didn't hurt the CD process too bad, since there are many, many great remixes out there. I have, including the bad ones, a large folder of about 300 - 400 MM remixes that i had to choose from. So you can probably guess that a lot of them didn't make the cut. The CD only has 29 tracks. Anyways, you can probably imagine my surprise when I DLed Flashfire only to discover that I already had it. Titled wrongly, mind you, as a Heat Man remix. Good news though, is that, even though I didn't know that this song was AE's, whose music I enjoy, it did in fact make the cut. And it's track two. I was just surprised when I discovered I had some OC stuff and never realized it. And i had it a while. I haven't gotten and new MM stuff for well over a year. Anyways, Kudos on your new shiny 10/10. ~Lord Syruss Khalai
