The People's Remix Competition 340
PRCv14-02

Hello everyone and Welcome to the People's Remix Competition!

Welcome to a the second round of the season. The first round is now in the voting stage. I will again mention the changes of the contest and the new schedule:

1.     It is no longer necessary to use ThaSauce to submit. Participants are allowed to enter by posting a download link at the Ocremix Topic as well. I’ll upload the songs to ThaSauce myself to have the songs centered at one place (to avoid download problems). It is also not necessary to vote @ThaSauce, it can also be done by sending me a PM.

2.     I’ll try to make sure that deadlines of PRC and MnP are not at the same date. However, a PRC round will always be two weeks. I don’t know how I’m going to do this yet and I won’t guarantee anything; this also depends on the MnP schedule.

3.     The winner of round X will not select a source for round X+1 but for round X + 2. So the one who wins this round may pick a source for PRC341 and not PRC340. So the winner of last round (338) selects a source for PRC340. No difference if there’s a tie, both pick a source for round X+2. The PRC schedule will change as follows:

The winner still may not enter the round if he/she selected the source but the winner is allowed to post a bonus mix (he/she has two weeks more to make a song).

The regular schedule of PRC will be as follows:

-        Monday week 1: start of the remixing stage.

-        Wednesday week 2: end of the remixing stage, start of the voting stage.

-        Monday week 3: end of the voting stage. The winner(s) must send the source for the next round before Monday week 4.

So if PRC X starts at Monday January 2nd, the round ends at Wednesday January 11th. Voting ends Monday January 16th, I need the source before Monday January 23th. PRC X+1 Starts Monday January 16th (or a couple of days earlier if it fits better in my schedule), remixing stage ends Wednesday January 25th, voting ends Monday January 30th and the winner must send the source to me before Monday February 6th. And so on… If it is different I’ll mention it in the post. When extensions are necessary, the winner(s) are given less time to pick a source.

Time to start the round.

PRC339 isn’t finished yet, check the Thread to vote:

PRC338 was won by Zorrakh, nine people entered the round. It was a close call, but he was the winner of the 13th anniversary round.

I originally wanted to pick Largo LaGrande's Theme from Monkey Island 2, but the only MIDI I found is off the beat and I unfortunately don't have the time to fix it. So here's Plan B:

Source Track: Evening of the Undead

Source Game: Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo Entertainment System)

MIDI: Link

Now here's something to consider. There are two different versions of this track; one from the Sega Genesis release (the original, as far as I can tell), and one from the SNES release. I don't know if it matters if both could be listed, but the MIDI is based on the Genesis version. Both are embedded below:

If you need anything else, just let me know!

Source: Zombies Ate My Neighbors – Evening of the Undead (GEN / SNES)

MIDI

Note: there are two youtube videos from both the Genesis and SNES version. The MIDI is from the Genesis version.

Source Information

ThaSauce link: Click here to submit

To submit a song at the compo page you can use the ThaSauce page. If you use this, an account is required. If you don't want to use ThaSauce, please upload the song somewhere else and post a download link in this thread. I recommend Soundcloud, don't forget to allow downloads to enable me to upload the song at ThaSauce. I will keep using ThaSauce as the place where all songs are located.

If you want to use ThaSauce, the following steps should be done.

  • Click the ThaSauce Link.
  • Click the 'You are not logged in' button in the upper right.
  • Click on 'register' (at the bottom).
  • Read the terms and click 'I agree to these terms'. If you don't agree with them, upload the song somewhere else and post a download link as mentioned above (by doing that, you allow me to upload the song at ThaSauce.
  • Continue the process by filling in your information.
  • You will get a question to confirm that you're not a robot. Here are some possible answers:
  1. Name a compo: PRC
  2. Who organizes One Hour Compo: Starla
  3. Name a ThaSauce subdomain: compo.thasauce.net
  4. Who created Mega Mans: Capcom

A confirmation mail will be send. There might be some issues with it (meaning that you don't get it), if that is the case, upload the song somewhere else as described above.

Once registered, login with your username and password, go to the mentioned page and submit the song. If you want submit two or more songs you can create multiple ThaSauce accounts or upload the song somewhere else and post the download link.

After uploading your song, please check if your song plays and can be downloaded and played without problems. Only upload MP3 files.

PRC instructions

  • The deadline is Wednesday January 25th 2017 at 10:59 am ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT), check the ThaSauce page for the exact time left. Make sure that the song is uploaded to ThaSauce or that there’s a download link posted in this thread.
  • You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. You are free to create a second ThaSauce account for that if you use ThaSauce, it's needed to be able to upload a second remix if you use ThaSauce. Of course you can also upload it somewhere else and put a download link in this thread.
  • Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted in this thread.
  • Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they receive a free first place vote added onto their score.
  • The winner of this round may select the source for PRC342.
  • The winner of PRC338, Zorrakh, can only participate by submitting a Bonus Mix. His vote is doubled in the voting stage.
  • You can find the full rules list at this page as well. I edited this page with the new schedule and rules.

GOOD LUCK!

This seems like it's gonna be a bit of a challenge! Not my usual style but I've got some ideas. Looking forward to see how other people remix it.

I'm very close to finishing my bonus mix, as well. I hope to have it up tomorrow evening. The semester just started up this week and I no matter how much I would like to, I can't neglect my homework.

My entry! https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8-q7hg2GtQPQnRMalJvSWhldFE

I was originally going to go with a Middle Eastern/Indian style with sitar and the like, but the longer I listened, the more it started to sound like reggae. So, I went ahead and threw the bass line down in a swing pattern, and everything else sort of fell into place. I feel like there's something that needs to be added to the mix, I just can't put my finger on that particular something... Anywho, I had a good experience experimenting with a new style, barring the artist's block I got in the middle.

Just posted mine! The titles a bit long... I hope you enjoy it!

EDIT: The title was too long for Soundcloud. The full title is on the album cover: Morning of the Unfortunately Still-Living Neighbors Having Their All-Night Dance Party Next Door [Evening of the Undead ReMix]

I think your title was too long for ThaSauce as well since your song didn't play.

I've reuploaded the song with a shorter song name and it works now. Also uploaded Dewey Newt's song.

Welcome to the voting stage

The mixing stage is over. This round has 3 songs and bonus mix by Zorrakh. The following people compete against each other

Dewey Newt

GCJ

PlanarianHugger

(if you want a different color, let me know by replying or sending me a PM). I won’t use the pictures anymore since I have issues by getting them at this page).

To vote, do the following:

·       Visit the stated ThaSauce Page and listen to all the entries.

·       Scroll to the form at the bottom of the screen or click PM.

·       Fill in the entries from first to third in the ThaSauce form or fill in your top 3. Participants only need to fill in or send their top 2 (they should leave the third box empty). Do not vote for Zorrakh

·       State a reasoning for it.

·       Participants are encouraged to vote and leave feedback. However, they may not vote for themselve, they get a free first place if they vote, so it is attractive to vote. Non participants are encouraged to vote to decide the winner and leave comments.

·       Always look in this thread to find out who's the winner of the round after the voting stage instead of only looking at ThaSauce for the results. Especially since some people might vote by sending me a PM.

You have until THIS Monday, January 30th 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT) to vote.

If you vote by PM make sure that your top 3 (or top 2 for participants) is clear. I prefer something like this:

(To)

Bundeslang (if you follow the link you won’t have to add my name).

(Subject)

PRC ### Vote

(Message):

1: (remixer A )

2: (remixer B )

3: (remixer C )

(reasoning)

I will post the feedback given in the PM’s and the votes in this thread. The winner may choose the source tune for PRC342. PRC341 will start before saturday.

Check the ThaSauce Page to vote or click here to send a PM.

Results Time

The results are as follows:

Number of participants: 3 + 1 Bonus by  Zorrakh

Number of votes:  5

Maximum score: 15

PlanarianHugger got a first place, but still gets the last place wooden spoon with 9 points.

And the winners of PRC340 are Dewey Newt and GCJ with 13 points!!

Dewey Newt and GCJ, you both claimed the victory. You may both select a source for PRC342. Send the source to me (with a MID/MP3 file, otherwise send a second source with a MID file) by PM, other options are PM me @ ThaSauce or by e-mailing to bambombim@gmail.com (I prefer a PM @Ocremix). Send your source as fast as you can, but before this Monday (6 February), 10:59 AM ThaSauce time (18:00 UTC, 19:00 GMT).

You may select any source for any game, but not a source with an OverClocked remix or a source which has been used in PRC before. An overview of the past PRC's can be found in the following links:

http://sites.google.com/site/bambombim/prc

http://bambombim.googlepages.com/PRCRemixList.doc (also downloadable via the link above).

PRC341 already started, deadline is next wednesday February 8th:

Check the ThaSauce Page for the results and votes.

First off, good job everyone! The remixes turned out pretty well. Can't say I saw this coming. I'll take a look at those previous sources for PRC so I can start searching and see if there's anything I can come up with then I'll PM my ideas to Dewey.

Dewey, send some ideas to me through PM as well and we'll figure out something.

Excellent competition and entries this round, great job everyone! I'm with GCJ in that I didn't see this result in the works at all. I've got some ideas for a source, just need to make sure I can find a good MIDI out there for it. I'll shoot you a PM after I do my searching, GCJ (or you'll beat me to it, one of the two, haha).

Skimming through "Da Rules", GCJ and I both pick a source, and then it's the competitor's choice whether they want to cover my source, GCJ's source, or mix the two together. Did I read all of that correctly?

Both of you may pick one source, meaning that PRC342 will have two sources. But if you agree on selecting one source that's fine as well.
