    NK Pixel Artwork

Hey folks! Besides doing music, I also do pixel art from time to time. My previous occupation was video game character animation and environment art, but for some reason I really hated it. I like to work with large resolutions and small palettes. Here's a few pieces: And there's more here!

  2. Haha those captions! I submit that no one should attempt to pee in a tsunami. I'd be more likely to try to FLEE in a tsunami. But I digress. Filtered intro, cool, but I keep hoping the filter is going to open more fully, the whole track sounds muffled. Those DnB drums and glitches are very cool. Seriously is there a high cut on this entire track, where are the highs? The strings don't feel like they fit with the rest of the soundscape, somehow you've got to mix them so they sound like they are in the same space. At 1:02 the lead synth cuts through so well that it really sticks out from the rest of the muffled soundscape. That lead could also use some vibrato or filter movement, it is very plain. When the soundscape gets dense, the strings seem to make everything sound midrange-muddy. The piano sounds very mechanical, especially when it is exposed at the end. I like this arrangement. I don't know this source so I'm not sure if I recognize it here or not. On a cursory listen it seems to be represented well enough, mostly in the strings as Wes mentioned. Regardless, the mixing issues are dealbreaker for me. NO (resubmit)

  5. That Nippon Manju song is great. OK. I'm having an idea that I'm slowly becoming committed to. I've already done a game-inspired death metal album. I think to make something really masterful, I should double-down on what I know. So I'm thinking Valkyrie Profile Viking Death Metal. Original songs with "references" to Valkyrie Profile songs. That means it's mostly original but there might be a bit of a Sakuraba melody in there somewhere. Kind of like how Dragon Force is original but plays a Double Dragon guitar solo note-for-note in the middle of the song. I would basically be making another full-length album before going "on tour" to MAGfest. What do you think? Valkyrie Profile does drama better than almost any game out there. 20 or so people die in very dramatic circumstances. Some of them have love affairs involved, it's amazing. And actually, I have sitting on my computer not one, not two, but THREE songs that I wrote based on three of the scenarios in the game over 15 years ago. I never recorded them or anything. I wouldn't use those though. I'd go all new. There's just so much inspiration to be integrated into some Viking Death Metal.

  6. League of Legends keeps improving. Looking back at the game when it released I am amazed anyone would have wanted to install it on their computer.
