Wow, what soundfonts are you using? Free?

I didn't even know about Rock Candy. I'll check that.

The actual melody doesn't vary much now because of the way I want to characterize the first half of the piece as a whole. The creativity in this part comes in the orchestration of it. And I do have parts that are, I think at least, divergent enough from the original just because they don't include the main melody at all. The second half will be much more interpretive if I can pull it off properly.

http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/orwl/eborch majorly wip'd still. no intro to speak of, and the arrangement will go on from there in a very different direction. How does this seem for a first half? All comments are welcome.

Do you think this CT arrangement I started a while back is more in the right direction technically? http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/bdbc/trial2 -

Yeah. Like I said, if I had the technical know-how here, I'd load up every possible sample for every kind of articulation and attack and sustain and whatever, but i'm at the point that i CAN'T. If I do, the program crashes. I'll resort to exporting parts as wav if I have to. I'd like to play the parts live, but my midi controller has a strange problem where it places everything slightly early. I guess I could just move it manually, but I just have so many technical issues I want not to worry about it. I hate these violin sounds, for example, but these were the only ones out of the whole library that I could find with a good enough attack to let me do fast sections that wouldn't use up too many resources. -

Ah thanks for that feedback. I don't get too much of that. I'll take a lot of that into account for sure. And I wish I could say I was a Vaughan Williams fan, but I just haven't found many places that i can listen to a variety of orchestral stuff. A lot of the sameness in texture is due to the fact that I'm probably using these samples wrong, as trying to load in a pizzicato sound with all the other stuff causes me to use too much ram and break the program. -

I'm using FL Studio with kompakt player. it's what it installed with by default. My biggest problem is that I'm not familiar enough with the technology to accommodate my arrangement ideas -

it's gold, which is taking quite a hit on my ram -
I would love to beef up the sample quality. But unfortunately there's only so much I can do with EWQLSO and 2 gb RAM
-
All I can say is it needs more bass. There's so much on the higher frequencies and the bottom is just neglected.

Ok, never mind that. I ended up just working more on it and I like it again. HUGE update. http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/nuvn/aloneorch

Thanks for the positive feedback. But I find that the more I listen to this, the more I am disappointed with the way it's going. I'm going to overhaul it majorly or just start over entirely, I think.

I saw it's been a good 4 years since any were submitted for this song, and the only other orchestral mix of it sounds kind of dated. So I figured I'd take a shot at it. http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/nuvn/aloneorch - update as of 5/26 Some notes: - The structure of the song is basically done now. I will rework parts at the suggestion of others, but for the most part, this is how it will be. - I especially need critique now on the instrumentation in specific areas - Is the ending ok? Mainly I'm looking to see if this is the right direction to take it. And also I want critique on the arrangement. Thanks.

Just to throw in my view on the matter.. basically, I am a hobbyist. I don't intend on selling my work at all. I just like to mess around. Demos suck and free stuff is never as good as professional products. If I didn't pirate it, I wouldn't buy it because I don't have that kind of money to throw down. So either way the producers aren't getting my money. But at least if I pirate it I can have a way to have a little fun and learn about how things work, and if I ever get good enough to sell anything I make, I would certainly buy a copy of the pirated stuff. For me it's more about learning than saying "hey free stuff lulz," and I can say for sure I would not be anywhere near where I am today developmentally if I had not had the chances that I've had to mess with certain programs. I don't see how I'm doing anyone any harm.

what's the recommended string section these days? -
my very first. I'm getting better, but I still have work to do. I'm at least much better now than this piece of work ;o http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=3793667&q=hi

I need basic electronica pads and leads. You know, the basic stuff. I have PLENTY of acoustic sounds, but if you ask me to throw together something sounding quite electronic, you get a half-assed attempt of mtrying to make acoustic sound like electronica. And I can't seem to find good stuff.. just think of a generic techno song/ I need those blaring leads, those weeping, clear pads.. now I'm no master of electronica, so I'd have to say I go most for trance music. But that doesn't mean much. I just need a good starting place for these types of things. Using the poizone and toxic plugins that came with FL Studio only goes so far. -
Topics like this make me wish I had money.

Yes, blatant ripoff of a certain mix already here, but I like what he did with it so I'm gonna try my hand at it. Naysayers say nay, but please nothing too harsh. Songs included are, for the 30498304th time, Wind Scene and Chrono Trigger. Don't mind the half-assed transition. This here is mainly a test to make sure I got the sound right. After these two sections are tweaked and improved, including that transition, I'll move into the second part of each piece and get much more interpretive with the melodies. Comments? Thank you. http://media.putfile.com/ct-brass-wip
