  1. I just knew I heard all sorts of hints of Lonely Rolling Star in this mix, and lo and behold, when I follow the album link I see a remix of that very song! I love the Katamari influences here.
  2. definitely in it to win it and for uematsu and final fantasy and distant worlds etc etc
  3. this is a bump and a promise for an update soon.
  4. http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=470 updated. fleshing out the tail end of the previous wip
  5. I'm aware of the issue of separation.. right now I'm not too worried about it since it's just stating the main theme. I can address the repetition, but I definitely at least intend on blending it all together into something more unified and connected. Whether or not I am successful remains to be seen
  6. http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=470 update 10/1 The ocean theme ( ) as well as hints of outset! This is still a very very very very early wip and not even close to being like half way written, but I like it so far so I want to share and get feedback on what's here. I'm aiming for ocr quality this time around, so be harsh.
  7. How can I create a pitch bend controller to use with this plugin? There's no knob for it anywhere as far as I can see.
  8. I love this source. I may have to take a shot at arranging it myself. The main critique I have to offer is adding more to fatten out the sound. The texture feels so thin across the whole thing, and the same general harmonic structure is repeated over and over which can make it fatiguing to listen to. The key change around 3:50 helps that a bit, but you definitely needs more mids represented in the overall soundscape, and maybe a stronger bass line.
  9. The horns sound terrible. I know it's hard to sample that but with jazz it just has to be the real thing. As a horn player and jazz fan, I find this painful to listen to.
  10. The attacks on some of the notes just sound weird. And the the vibrato seems to be a bit much.
  11. Would you mind sharing what brass samples you're using for those little kicks? I love that kind of lo-fi sound.
  12. zac spruthasa? I'm really hoping that's "Also Sprach Zarathustra"
  13. That crescendo at 2:20 just NEEDS more energy. You keep the texture exactly the same and it needs to be BIG
  14. It's not DISTORTING it, per se. There's only one spot in a sound I have that I found where the headphones setting actually distorted the sound at a part that's loud in the mids. But there is definitely a difference between the settings, and I was just curious as to what other people did, or if it was the same for them. I have it on desktop speakers still just because it doesn't seem to boost anything that I don't tell it to.
  15. Recently I discovered that I could change my windows audio settings to stereo headphones instead of desktop speakers. Doing so did make it sound nice - it boosted a lot of the mids and gave a full sound to everything. But that's the thing.. it's distorting the sound. What should I go with for mixing to get the most accurate representation of the mix? Some parts of songs sound distorted on the headphones setting, so I've stuck with desktop speakers where everything sounds fine, but this new knowledge just got me wondering.
  16. Parts sound cool, but really it never goes anywhere. It's at the same level of energy through the whole thing.
  17. When the new guitar comes in it sounds really flat to me. My ear isn't great, though, so someone else should verify this. I also think it's too loud.
  18. I think the soundscape doesn't really vary enough. A bit of texture fatigue going on still. I think a break in the vocals with something else doing a melodic interlude (hint hint cheesy strings) would work well. I would also add a lot more energy to it when you have the low vocal part come in toward the end. So far it's all at the same dynamic, even when you add more parts in.
  19. This DEFINIELY needs some sweeping pads and ultra cheesy synth string lines behind it. It would fit so well.
  20. I don't really have a lot to add. Just saying I think this is awesome.
  21. What's wrong with the articulations at 1:38? They seem to me fitting with the airy nature of the section
  22. There's a lot of original stuff around it, but the melody is kept fairly intact. I really had fun doing this one. The arrangement of parts isn't very complex in itself, but I loved exploring different harmonies. Production is probably where this song fails the most, especially considering I have very little technical knowledge of the process. So what sounds good and bad? Should I add more percussion aside from vibes? Add more overall? All comments welcome. This is, of course, just the first draft. http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/sonj/neweborch edit 1: remastered a little to get rid of excess reverb and add other misc enhancements
