My point was not to discourage university education just because others were able to be successful without it. That's really lazy-minded advice that could have negative impacts on one's ability to actually succeed in an artistic field (honestly, you'd be surprised how many people simply refuse to learn how to do music right just because their heroes didn't need it). Yes, it's proven you don't need college to get ahead, but it still exists for a reason - and it's where a lot of music jobs for music graduates show up.
-
Don't let that stop you from pursuing real instruction and knowledge on how music is done. Keep in mind the many people who "made it" musically without formal training are celebrated for that fact in reverse - it only sounds awesome AFTER they got lucky and did something amazing that was successful enough for them to get recognized. You don't NEED university, but it probably gives you a lot better a shot than not. Hell, college students in many fields are still struggling to get jobs having paid $40,000-$100,000 for the world's most expensive toilet paper and music jobs are tough to get even if you are an A-level composer/celebrity. Always keep that in mind.

Facebook Use and Self-Esteem Questionnaire

Done. I hope I didn't throw off the whole curve with my implausible existence. -
The DAW daily technique - is this even a thing?
Meteo Xavier replied to ShadTK's topic in Music Composition & Production
Thirded. Keep a variety of things going on - maybe do some shorter pieces some days, longer pieces on others, tutorials on others, audition sounds on others, etc, depending how well you do with repetitive structure. -
The Official SNESology Thread - Sample Libraries Available!
Meteo Xavier replied to Monobrow's topic in General Discussion
SNESology posted a new track I did for them. Fun Fact: This track is at least 4.5 years old. I only finished it recently. Fun Fact 2: I'm well aware I dropped the ball visually here. I thought there were be more good Cecil and Golbez images and I thought I took out the Chrono Trigger one, but it seems to work all the same. Please enjoy the track. -
Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness - History
Meteo Xavier replied to Usa's topic in Projects
We have you listed for Weird Counterpoint, but Angel's Fear I don't have any frame of reference with. Rozovian hasn't told me anything on it, it may be that it's just left off the list by accident (it tends to not get updated correctly very often). You didn't use any samples from the game itself in there, did you? Edit: Hylian Lemon, who I assume is HL, is listed for Angel's Fear as well. I think maybe its just a clerical mistake. -
Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness - History
Meteo Xavier replied to Usa's topic in Projects
No Brandon, a lot of people have been really busy for months now and haven't had the right time and availability to finish up on this project. Rozovian is busy with work, I'm at least a month behind in my business due to a death in the family and a long, frustrating winter obstacling much of what I could have gotten done, Usa is busy with an album that took him longer to do than he expected, etc. etc. Just be patient. This project is not done or ignored or cancelled or anything, it just isn't complete yet for very good reasons across the board. All the time and everyone's effort to make this album incredible will not go to waste. -
Most discussions on social issues in a videogame community ultimately add up to this anyway since social issues are rarely, if ever, solved that way and overwhelmingly only amount to arguments and people wanting to flex their knowledge on the subject as opposed to learning anything from it or forming a task group to actually do something about it. Think of every 50-100 page thread you've ever seen on here. Did we best sexism in videogames yet? Is the collected quality of Square-Enix titles going back up? Are EA's business practices getting any better? Are we getting any more African-American JRPG protagonists any time soon? What do these discussions actually do to justify all the time and energy going into them? Ultimately, it goes to waste. Internet debates pretty much only exist so members can get an ego high from flexing their opinions on a subject. That's pretty much the whole reason I'm posting this now. This post won't change anything or inspire anyone to stop doing what they're addicted to doing now, but it gives me a short-term outlet to pretend I'm an authority on anything after a full day of accomplishing not much else. Same as almost everyone else.

In the wave of LucasArts nostalgia, I woke up today with a sudden craving to play Star Wars: Dark Forces again...
-
Which pisses me off because the only thing that was wrong with the game was simply that it didn't match up to ZAMN in terms of quality, which was a damn high bar in the first place. And everyone hates it for the pure and simple reason its only a "decent" sequel instead of a "great" sequel. /off-topic rant

http://kotaku.com/disney-shuts-down-lucasarts-468473749 And before you do it, understand there are already a million Disney/Empire jokes already circulating. You will not be original. I'm sad to see it go, but its already been kinda lost to me ever since they moved away from doing kickass original projects like Maniac Mansion, Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol (of which I am the only living fan of), and went strictly into Lucas IP franchises only. God rest you, gold man.

The Music Software Deals thread
Meteo Xavier replied to big giant circles's topic in Music Composition & Production
I'm wanting to call April Fools on this because, while being on a computer that does not have my music stuff on here, it makes no mention to what actual sounds are in it, not to mention how much its trying to sell itself on being the best. -
If you could change one thing in any game...
Meteo Xavier replied to nOkbient's topic in General Discussion
There is a special circle in hell waiting for you, my son. Kitase is the bee's balls and his only flaw was making Final Fantasy VI so good that legions of RPG fans will forever use that title as the standard to which no other Final Fantasy can ever match up to and be acknowledged as a result. Also, where is the love for Hiroyuki Ito? That man is God's love made flesh and the reason we even have the internet today is because of him. -

Meteo Xavier replied to nOkbient's topic in General Discussion
Make the 2 Player in Zombies Ate My Neighbors split-screen so that characters aren't arbitrarily confined to only the space the two characters can occupy. Honest to God, that shit was ridiculous. Love the game to death, but that pretty much broke the 2 player part of it. -
I want to build you a computer
Meteo Xavier replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
I don't need a new system yet (the one you built me like 3 years ago is still running strong as a fucking ox) but tell me about this deal please. I'd much rather buy from you than anyone else I can think of. -
Thank you very much! Man, with all this attention I got on here, I feel bad not taking the extra effort to entertain you all once you got here. The lot of you are worth that extra effort. Guess I'll have to +2 it next year.
-
I'm not sure why that needed to be pointed out, but thank you all the same.

Happy birthday to you too, my man!

Well, I spent an hour trying to make an epic self-parody humorous self-birthday thread like I do every year, but this year I lost the whole damn thing when I accidentally clicked out of the damn browser window and now its all gone. I don't feel like writing it again, so wish me happy birthday you den of philistines.

EastWest/FL Studio Issues

Well, this is the second time I've loaded them in and its producing the same effect. -
EastWest/FL Studio Issues
Meteo Xavier replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Music Composition & Production
Necro-bump, I did eventually solve the problem like I said, but the Stormdrum 2 panning issue is still there. Both support and KVR are absolutely useless and I'm still wondering if anyone else knows anything about random SD2 samples being only right-stereo output. Thank you!
