VikingGuitar Halloween Compilation 2013
Meteo Xavier replied to VikingGuitar's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
It's metal only? -
Can I use this thread to express my extreme regret that Dragon Quest VII is being ported to the 3DS instead of the regular DS like I hoped for for years? I don't have a 3DS...
-
I found it pretty choppy and a downgrade personally. I loved the FFIVAdvance port however.

I have to admit, JH Sounds keeps getting better with each release. It's like a catalogue coming to a boil of some kind. I kinda wish it still wasn't quite as lo-fi and gimmicky as it is, but, yeah, it was definitely a cool listen. You need to start submitting this stuff to some indie, lo-fi labels, J. It's really getting better and there's a niche for this kind of stuff, I've seen it.

Final Fantasy VI for the GBA. It was SUPPOSED to be on the DS.

Tropes vs. Women / #GamerGate Conspiracies
Meteo Xavier replied to Brandon Strader's topic in General Discussion
And with gender roles and concepts being as outdated as they are today, I have to laugh at this statement. That will be my only contribution to this discussion. I seriously think we have bigger things to worry about, even in the videogame industry, than the damsel in distress trope that only get a fraction of the discussion and action in relation - EA's handling of the recent SimCity controversy, for example. -
By late this year I'm going to be starting a new commercial album under a different name and I'm hoping to do a major departure from the sound I'm using to doing. The record label I'm on was extremely generous to re-release my ambient, ESPERS, record, as they're primarily an IDM label, I want to return the favor with a genuine IDM album and I'm wanting to do the opposite of ESPERS with a really hyperkinetic, aggressive and dark sound. At first, I was interested in doing something like Autechre and Aphex Twin, but I started diving deeper into the sound, I don't think it will appeal to modern electronica enthusiasts as it would not be memorable or exciting. I've decided to go in more of a Squarepusher territory with more Drum and Bass and Drill and Bass experimenting, but even then that might be too light and melodic to fit the project feel. So I was wondering if anyone here might recommend some good, modern experimental IDM with a lot of hyper and aggressive action going on so I can try to pinpoint down a better muse. I'm not looking to do a lot of ambient backing for it and I'm trying to focus on seeing how creative and insane I can make the tracks without making it too experimental to get into. Lofty goals, but I thought I'd try anyway. Here's the closest to what I want to do that I've found so far: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VxDNv1Ux9M&feature=player_detailpage#t=0s - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VxDNv1Ux9M&feature=player_detailpage#t=2099s - https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=RkTktX3WssI#t=1999s - - - a lot of these tracks have kinda the backing I'm looking for, but its dubstep instead of DnB and I ain't doin' dubstep.- Granted some of these are not DnB, but they're aggressive, hyper beats and electronica which is more precisely what I'm looking for. Any help relevant to the discussion would be appreciated. Thank you!

EWQL Composer Pack/ The $1,000 Question
Meteo Xavier replied to XPRTNovice's topic in Music Composition & Production
Unless you're super rich or have some paying gigs lined up soon, I'd stick with EWQL CCC. It has its faults, but it's still one of the best balanced packages for price and quality you'll find. It really doesn't make much financial sense to spend $3,000 or whatever finding THE ABSOLUTE PERFECTLY HIGH QUALITY SAMPLE SET FOR EVERYTHING if you're not already lined up to make that much back. All these guys can say "nah, go with Project Sam" or "nah, get Kontakt 4 and spend $100-$200 on every single little instrument so you can get the highest quality", blah blah blah all they want, but it won't do you much good to get that highest quality if very few people ever hear it. Get CCC first and learn to use it well. -
***dammit, I finally purchase a Mega Man 7 cart for $60.00 at an overpriced game store just because I doubt I'd ever see one for sale again and now everyone starts selling theirs for better prices. I might be interested in that Alundra, but I need to see what my entertainment budget is going to be like next week first. I'll hit you up if I can afford it, but at least I wanted to impart a nugget of interest.

Need a sample, synth, or effect? LOOK HERE!
Meteo Xavier replied to zircon's topic in Music Composition & Production
There is actually a Final Fantasy VIII soundfont with a sample of that in there. I think you can get it at Zophar's Domain. -
Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness - History
Meteo Xavier replied to Usa's topic in Projects
Also, Hakstock and Blaine's tracks need to be BLUE'd. -
I was more curious how you could afford it, especially with 3 kids. I don't mean to derail the topic or anything on it, I'm actually fascinated that someone can do that and the knowledge may quell some of my own financial fears and so forth.
-
Pure genuine curiosity - what kind of day job do you have where you can build a studio in your spare time?
-
My thoughts exactly. What kind of input were you looking for here?

King of the Nerds Season 2 Casting Has Begun!
Meteo Xavier replied to ocre's topic in General Discussion
Ocre should most definitely represent OCR in King of the Nerds Championship. HE'S LIKE OUR VERSION OF TERRY FUCKING BOGARD -
Bullshizer, I don't judge games as they stand up to the classics of the series, I judge them on their own merits and I found Assault to be much better than everyone kept saying it was. Even the foot missions I found surprisingly spry and fun, but the best part was that a lot of levels changed up the gameplay and goals throughout the levels. It wasn't amazing, but it was definitely better than everyone was vomiting over. A 7/10 instead of a 9/10. That's still pretty good.

How do ethnic instruments count as "unusual"? Some of those have been around for more than centuries.
-
I'm just going to throw this out there: Star Fox Assault was a LOT better than everyone kept saying it was, and you wankers should be ashamed of yourselves for not buying it and keeping the Star Fox franchise healthy. Wankers - the whole lot of you.

Good lord, they've been out that long? What an irony the longest current generation I know of would be the one I've never touched. Holy shit.
