  1. Ristar has some good music, though I can't recognize the original melodies in your tune. Instead, this sounds like something one would hear from The Little Mermaid.
  2. Try implementing FM gradually on longer notes instead of adding a default value of FM in short and wide notes. I think you can also add some vibrato while using FM to give it a large and powerful sound. Quick example of what I'm talking about
  3. Well, I guess the thread has been derailed a bit, but let's see what you got. First off, here's a wav with a few parts of the song. There are moments I felt that the leads are not very pleasing to ears. Are these unsuccessful attempts at vibrato? Might want to fix that. Your organ sequencing at 1:54 is nice, those can be brought out more. Right now the leads are too dominant for a piece about 4 minutes long. The mix is dying for more organ or wah-wah parts to keep things interesting and varied. I know you like programming leads, but don't be afraid of giving other instruments their turn to shine.
  4. I remember this guy's work. Totally love . The amount of WTF material is great. has videos of similar quality.
  5. you mean house? He's saying people used to call all electronic dance music techno, but now people are calling everything electro.

  7. Also, level 1 has a lens flare on the SNES version. WOW! The SNES game runs in a lower resolution, so it is stretched horizontally and everything looks fat as a result. The sounds are muffled as well... it sounds like it was recorded underwater. Compare it with the sound effects on the Genesis. The SNES might have better color palettes, but it had less number of frames. Mike Dietz said he prefered working on the Genesis better because he had more frames of animation to work with and it was capable of a superior number of sprites on screen at any one time.
  8. Can't think of any. Probably because I don't play games for the story.

  14. It is mostly inspired by and The Hybrid Front which have similiar quality. There are 5 FM channels, 1 PCM sample channel and 4 PSG channels, which shows what the hardware was capable of.

  18. You don't have to look for drums VST. Just grab any original nes song in nsf format and sample everything you need by muting all channels but the percussion. If you don't know how to rip sounds from an nsf, PM me and I'll upload waves of various NES drums.
  19. SIDPLAY has a Mixer feature which allows disabling individual channels.
  20. None of these games had MIDIs. MIDI is just information sent between different types of hardware/software. It has nothing to do with cheap sounding instruments.
  21. Or you could just not use it and summarize everything in one sentence.
