I'm not sure if you could ever say there's a right way to do compression. Just go for what sounds good in your mix. Rock That Comp! Oh I know. I just wanted to open up the floor for a li'l drum compression discussion. Always like to see any advice on this kinda stuff.

Agreed. I prefer a dry kick. I used to use a lot of verb on the rest of my drums, but lately I've been using it sparingly, and I think I like it better. Makes them stand out more.

Should you compress each element separately? Or the drum line as a whole? I tend to compress each element by itself. Don't know if this is the right way to do things.

Not sure if this is the right forum, but 1. I want rainforest ambience sounds 2. I want them to be free 3. I want them at CD quality resolution lol, is this too much to ask? I've done some research, but not really found any free stuff. I could splash out a few bucks for something, but I like free shit.

It is? Because you gotta get an account to DL stuff at Soundclick, I've always assumed that it's out of the question for submitting stuff to OCR.

I say, force yourself to finish songs, no matter how much you think they suck. I go through stages with each song: 1. Jot down some ideas and think I'm off to an awesome start 2. Start fleshing out the song, but start to think, "WTF, this doesn't sound good at all" 3. Stick with it, despite my misgivings, and get to the point where I start to like it again and enjoy working on it. *shrug* So yeah, just force yourself to turn your ideas into full songs.

Nah, I wouldn't say always. Some of the more extreme electronic genres like industrial are built around really harsh sounds. digital clipping or distortion seems appropriate if you want something nice and abrasive.

The montastery idea sounds pretty good to me.

Maybe take a break for awhile, mate. Sounds like you're pushing yourself too hard... trying to force something from nothing. I haven't had a slump in awhile, but when I did nothing really worked. I just had to ride it out. edit: oh, you already said you took a break. Maybe a longer one?

Yeah, but, for an extra $50, it seems silly not to just save up and get GPO or Silver, which sound FAR better imo than the Edirol dealie. I think Edirol is WAY overpriced considering the quality of the sounds.

yeah, I'm a newbie. However, I took a gander at the list and saw that someone else was already doing the Mysterious Woods theme, which is the one I'm gonna do, so ne'ermind. edit: I've only done a couple game arrangements, but if you want to hear the most recent head over to the link in my sig and listen to "A Mountain Most Evil". Good luck with your project though, I'll definitely keep my eye open for the release.

Really enjoyable stuff. This is your best orchestral-esque work so far, I think. Liked all the layers of percussion. All around excellent... I'm very jealous of your skills and drive.

Well, uh, if you don't know anything about composing, you should probably deal with that problem first before you worry about buying orchestral samples.
