Don't worry, it's definitely not a finished version, and I know he plans on working with the winner(s) extensively before submitting. -

VOCR: Vocal Remixing Compo- WINNERS ANNOUNCED!
Jillian Aversa replied to Jillian Aversa's topic in Competitions
Well, from the original list of 28, we got a whopping 7 entries... one of them being my own. Weak. There's really no point in giving out three great prizes when the competition's so slim. Soooooo... I'M EXTENDING THE DEADLINE FOUR MORE DAYS, TILL 9 PM EST, WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 27TH! A lot of you claimed to have technical problems, illness, or not enough time, so here's your chance. Please PM me ASAP if you plan on entering. I'm counting on you guys! P.S. Current contestants are welcome to revise and resubmit! -

1.5 hours to go! Just as a warning, I'm rather sick at the moment, so I may not feel up to organizing, re-tagging, and hosting all the entries tonight. If I don't, though, I promise they'll be up tomorrow. -

I don't know if I'll be able to offer prizes next time, though. Hopefully people will still want to partcipate, even if there isn't material incentive. -

Hey, you can't blame the guy. It is really annoying getting the same PM's over and over again about something that isn't your responsibility. JJT hazed me in his remixer bio, asking everyone who wants his sheet music to email me. I don't even bother responding anymore. Serves him right! Grumble... -

Well, I've decided not to extend the deadline. It would be unrealistic, because I could only push it back a day or two, and I doubt that would make a difference for all the sickies. It's a crappy time of year for a vocal competition, but I'm still surprised at how many people have dropped out so far. I have a feeling we're gonna get less than half the original list... and that's pretty disappointing. 12 hours left! -
VOCR: Vocal Remixing Compo- WINNERS ANNOUNCED!
Jillian Aversa replied to Jillian Aversa's topic in Competitions
Everybody read the first post! I expect submissions to be emailed to me directly, according to the guidelines. Just as a heads up... I'm considering possibly extending the deadline a few days. So many people have commented that they got sick, and I just woke up this morning with terribly swollen tonsils (was gonna spend all day recording), so it might not hurt to give people a little leeway. If you're not sick, though, please plan on getting your stuff to me by the original deadline! I haven't decided yet whether or not it would be worth it to extend the process. -

Aw, that's too bad. Two days, people! (Well, technically one, if you don't count today since it's Friday...) -
Remixer name: pixietricks Real name: Jill Goldin Website: www.jilliangoldin.com Game remixed: Chrono Cross Song remixed: Radical Dreamers ~Unstealable Jewel~ System: Playstation Original composer: Yasunori Mitsuda Original vocalist: Noriko Mitose Comments: Okay, so several of you know this already, but this mix has actually been sitting around on my computer for quite some time. I showed it to a few people over the summer to get some feedback, and then the next time I tried to open the project file, it was damaged. All attempts at recovery were unsuccessful, sadly. There are still things I wish I could change (i.e. varying up the percussion, tighter snare, reverb on the attack strings, more distinct panning in the choir section...), but I still feel like the piece is in a good place. So yeah! It's a song about longing/unrequited love... Really original, I know. Thankfully the lyrics no longer apply in my life, but I'm sure they will reach an audience of sorts. I drew my inspiration almost completely from Dido on this one: specifically her song "Here With Me" from the album No Angel, which was featured as the opening credits track on Roswell, an awesome sci-fi TV series. Hope you like! Lyrics: Sometimes I lie awake at night and wait The shadows changing on the hollow wall And moonlight streaming through my windowpane Leaves me cold, under the shroud of nightfall You're there beside me in my deepest dreams A ghost of all the weight I feel within And floating endlessly, my heart believes That we are one, ready to touch, to begin Imagine how your lips would taste on mine And how your breath would feel against my eyes My heart is racing for the millionth time Don't let go of this thought, otherwise There's a haze, a feeling that I get with you And this hand won't let go Lead me, show me just how love's supposed to feel So that I won't be dreaming...

OC ReMix officially attends MAGFest 5 festival
Jillian Aversa replied to Jillian Aversa's topic in Announcements
Yep, there's gonna be an OCR panel, and basically identical to the Otakon format. Dave, Larry, Andy and I are going to present it, and if any other judges are present they'll probably be involved in one way or another. We're going to add/change a few source tune and remix examples, focus a little less on site history, and more on things a slightly more clued-in audience will appreciate. You should ask Dave if he wants to perform your collab again! -

I'll bring my videocamera, so hopefully somebody will be willing to work it. ^-^ NEW NEWS! First of all, there will be no big panel with all the videogame remixing communities. I tried to organize something, but everyone seems too busy to get involved, and it's tough over the internet. Secondly, the OCR panel will be at 4:00pm on Friday the 5th, followed immediately by a meetup in the lounge! -
VOCR: Vocal Remixing Compo- WINNERS ANNOUNCED!

The voting period will last one week (once I've hosted everything). That's enough time, right? I know people might get busy around the holidays, so in order to make sure all the entrants remember to vote (a rule I stated in my first post), those who do not will be disqualified. ^_~ /me cracks da whip Gotten a couple entries so far, and they're sounding good! Can't wait to hear what everyone else comes up with. -

Hey guys! Just a reminder that the entries are due in my email inbox a week from today: Saturday, December 23rd @ 9:00 pm EST! -
The results from our survey revealed that hardly any of our listener base actually discovered us through Podcast Alley, so we actually made a conscious choice not to remind people to vote this month. It just didn't feel worth keeping track of, y'know?

What if you want to sing lyrics of words that are nonsense? Or just string to together beautiful foreign words that have no context when actually translated? Still gotta include the text. And no, they don't have to literally be .txt files. -

Sure, spanish is cool! I should say this for everyone: If you plan on doing submissions with lyrics, your text must be included in the email to me. Also, foreign language texts require translations. ^-^ -
*NO* Ultima 5 'Lord British Lullaby'
Jillian Aversa replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Gahhhhh! That intro sounds like one of those listening tests I had to do every year in elementary school. Why did you choose like, the highest perceptible octave to the human ear? We're not dogs, you know. ^_~ And besides, it doesn't really sound relaxing like the rest of the piece. I think zircon summed things up very well here. There are a lot of things that you could do to beef up this arrangement without losing the overall simplicity of a lullaby, and his suggestions sound very tasteful! A lot of the samples sound too rigid for my taste. If you're really going for the lullaby style, there needs to be a more organic quality to the piece, with dynamic swells and time stretching. Think... rocking the baby. NO -
*NO* Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening 'Flooded Woods'
Jillian Aversa replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Wow, you really threw us a curveball here. This is great stuff! Despite the emptiness in some parts, I enjoy the overall style and unique rhythmic choices you've made. Production's hurting, though. I think you should bring out that bassline somehow. It seems too rounded and subdued for the kind of melodic content it takes on at times. Everything else, as Vig said, sounds dry and hot. (Yes, despite the rainstick! Were you trying to trick us there? ) I hope you won't let that talent go to waste; if you think you need help with the production, don't hesitate to ask! The WIP forums are a starting place, but if you don't get enough helpful feedback there, I give you my personal permission to harass zircon on AIM. XD NO RESUBMIT! -
*NO* Pokémon Red Version 'Viridian Vibe: Another Day'
Jillian Aversa replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Anyway, it's all been said; I couldn't agree more with TO (and the Larries). This is a really smooth, sexy piece, but it's just a little too liberal at the moment. Everything other than the sax sounds more like filler than arrangement. I know how frustrating it can be to remix when you have one special performing talent that you wanna showcase, but don't worry: you're headed in the right direction! Production sounds really awesome. Just tie in the original a little more, and you'll be golden. NO RESUBMIT!
