We did do that, believe me. Took us a while to get started, though, so the fire was already on its way out.

As q-pa pointed out, myspace is fugly. Granted, it may be a good way to attract attention to your band/project/show/whatever, but I dunno... The whole idea of it just seems kind of high-schooly to me. We already have a lovely website, thanks to the help of LES.NET, Cyan_Ide Design, and belthesar's torrents. What do the rest of you think? Would it be worth it anyway? Part of me just doesn't want to invest the time in yet another website community, but...

OCR01524 - Cave Story "Moon Rhapsody"
Jillian Aversa replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Yeah, don't know where you got that impression. This remix was ALLLLL DOUG! Go Doug! Woo! Brilliant! Sexay! Shake that thang! XD EDIT: Oh yeah, and your mom, too! I guess you didn't do it *completely* alone... Dougley Doo! -
Just thought I'd quote this, since it was towards the bottom of the last page. Anywho, don't forget: VGDJ needs your votes!!!
-
Nah, I thought it was funny. I think LAOS was the one to take it the wrong way. ^_~
-
Yeah, they made me sound ditzy. >< Soooooo...ummmm.... How 'bout those Google Ads?
-
I SOOOOO make more money than Andy. Summer at GiGi's and singing for accompanying class FTW! I make more money than the both of you combined. Yeah yeah, you night-shifter. At least I have a life!
-
We'd never let the show die, even if we were together but too busy with life. At worst, we'd train a couple people to carry on in our place- but don't worry, that won't be happening any time soon. Viva la VGDJ!

*NO* Donkey Kong Country 2 'Take Me Away'
Jillian Aversa replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Wow, not what I was expecting from you, Darangen! Acousticy goodness. This is a very touching arrangement: beautiful lyrics, spacious chords, haunting FX... Mixing sounds excellent, too. I fear that you may get a few complaints about repetitiveness, but I think the simplicity of the piece actually works in your favor. Do you like Guster? The main problem is that your voice is much more exposed in this style than we're used to hearing, without all the drums and electric elements. I think you are a good singer, but perhaps this key was too high for you. All the vocals, particularly the upper harmonies, tend to sound uncomfortably flat. You may wanna choose a lower key, or you could do some pitch correction on the compy. I can see what you were going for with the echo at 0:58, but I don't think doing it down the octave was a very logical choice. It breaks up the rest of your range. Honestly, though, if you just rerecorded (or pitch-corrected) the vocals, I'd have no problem passing this. NO, PLZ RESUBMIT -

Nice ideas, sloppy execution. One of the most important rules I've learned in jazz performance is that the bass and drums have to *completely* lock in. If there are timing issues there, the other performers could be spot on, but it still wouldn't be enough. Another problem I see is that the guitar part is the first thing to be introduced in this mix, and yet it's the only one to never change (other than occasionally dropping away). Where's da soul? It's repetitive to the point of obnoxiousness, at least to me. I wanna smack it away every time it comes back! Others have already mentioned this, but the sax part really does sound a little midi. It wouldn't kill you to end a phrase with some tasteful vibrato, ne? All in all, I feel uninspired. It doesn't sound like you guys had much fun performing, either. If you care about this mix, you gotta show it a little more. As I see it, nobody's really putting in a concerted effort to make it work... and you're all talented performers! Don't give up just yet. I think Darkesword hit the nail on the head here. The stuttering effects are great, but I think you're relying on them too much to carry the arrangement where it's lacking. I actually wasn't feeling this one until the percussion came in, and the stuttering works better for that than the guitars, IMO. Still, it is Earthworm Jim, so a little weirdness is never out of order. ^_~ Nice slide into the heavier percussion at 1:26! Seriously, little details like that can go a long way. I felt like the arrangement just sort of died, though. From 2:02 until the end, there's really not much going on. You've got yer chill synths, yer strings, and yer pianer... and then everything just kinda drops away. Drums could be bassier, but meh. Definitely pushing my limit, but I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt this time around: Borderline YES

OCR01546 - *YES* Donkey Kong Country 2 'The Delay'
Jillian Aversa replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Agreed. This is solid, solid work. The whole mix sounds a little hot, but I certainly wouldn't reject it based on EQ alone when it's not a serious problem. I'm not sure that I'm feeling Larry's comments on the cohesiveness of the texture. What seems to be the problem? Sounds fantastic to me! The arrangement itself is a little straight-forward, but I feel like you've achieved a decent balance between source and originality. Love the FX and panning- very mysterious! Maybe it's just my New Age bias, but I see no real issues with this remix. CERTAINLY -
It's sol. Believe me. Anywho, can we get back on topic here? The name change is old news, and not very relevant to VGDJ.
-
It's actually "sol," not "so." Everyone thinks it's so, though... probably because of the actors' accents in The Sound of Music. Anywho, I think I'm gonna stick to pixietricks after all, at least until I can find something that really clicks. And even if I find something new, that doesn't mean my personality's gonna change with it. Soooooooo, yeah... back to votin'!

Enough about mah name: you guys are forgetting the important stuffs! IT'S THE FIRST OF THE MONTH! DON'T FORGET TO VOTE FOR VGDJ AT PODCASTALLEY.COM!!!

I think the 26th would be way too soon, for those commuting from afar. I know I wouldn't be able to get down to New York the day after Christmas. But if it were the 28th or 29th, that might be doable. Or we could wait until after the new year, and make it a sort of meetup marathon leading up to Magfest? Anyway, I will most likely be coming, assuming it's not immediately following kurisumasu!

Oh come now, we had the Flow Basket II and BGC interview recently; those were both hour-plus episodes. And last week was a guest host! I understand that all the crazy summer stuff may have spoiled you, but remember; it *was* summer. This is now the school year, and there are fewer things like VGL/Otakon/8bit Genocide that we can take advantage of when we're also attending school full time.
