  1. the first half repeats...and i agree with prot about the bad notes. kind of akward. the interlude is okay, but the drums stand out at this point as being particularly low quality. the ending is weak. there is really just a lot of repetition. NO
  2. I agree. serious quality issues. the drums are way too loud. the recording is dry, and the recording is muddy. the bass drum is loud and angry and stupid. the two guitars arent in synch. and there is little arrangement. NO
  3. i agree. this is really lacking in structure, and there are lots of little problems with quantization synch issues, clipping, etc. NO
  4. what is going on with this mix? it's a mess, the notes seem totally random, there's no harmony, there's no ending. how did this not get the letter? for the sake of my fellow judges, NO OVERRIDE
  5. crowded, yet there isnt all that much going on. i dont hear a bass part. i here maybe two or three synths and drums. the whole mix is dry. lacks variation. i think it could use some reverb and some more diverse sounds. NO
  6. this is very cool. it is minimalist, which is the basis of the few problems the judges are bound to cite. it develops slowly and subtly. it could develop more, but i think it's very nice. like i said, it's minimalist, which some might interpret as "repetitive". while the melody repeats, there are subtle changes made. i think there could have been measures taken to make this more gratifying, but as it is, it's very pleasant, and develops in a chill and minimalistic way. YES
  7. i agree with prot. there are some major harmony issues in this mix. it's really kind of a mess of notes with very little organization. NO
  8. i'll fall asleep whenever i damn well please. as for the song, i really really like the sound. it's great. moody, atmospheric. but for an atmospheric piece, this is WAY too short. it doesnt develop. that might sound strange when refering to an atmospheric piece, but it can happen, and it should. listen to CotMM. also, listen to Gas (a german ambient techno artist). you could have brought it up very subtly by adding randomesque noises, or a quiet ambient techno beat. or you could have just played around with the voicings for a few minutes. in a song like this, variations are going to be subtle, so you can afford to experiment. i dont think this song should be any less than 6 minutes long. NO
  9. hmm...kwix's mixes seem to get progressively better.. this mix has a lot of potential as it is, but it is lacking some polish. in the intro, when the lead synth trails off, it should continue to trail off, replaced by a different voice. it should not cut off to get back to the melody. treble fades are used, but not with any amount of subtlety. the treble will jump from all the way down to all the way off. subtelty. in the places where there are more than two lead instruments, they should not be the same instrument. a little before 4 minutes there is a nice backsynth, but it is too quiet. the song as a whole could use more softpads and various instruments in general to fill up the space. i like the arrangement. with some work this could be very good. NO
  10. well...i like the arrangement, except for...you know...the whole...no bass thing. but i have a couple issues with the execution. i dislike both of the guitar sounds. the distortion is too fuzzy and doesnt have enough edge. the clean guitar should have had the neck pickup selected. as it is, it's too trebly. the drums are too monotonous. there is really very little variation. there is a lot of clipping. especially later in the song, it's quite obtrusive. NO
  11. i was really enjoying the groove and the synthpop sound until the melody came in, which isnt very well arranged. it sounds like it's straight from the NES with a slightly higher-bit sound. in fact, the entire song, other than the intro, is really pretty straightforward. there arent a lot of instruments or harmonies. and thesong is short, it doesnt expand. NO EDIT: i should have been more clear, my complaint is not that the mix is too close to the original, rather that the melody sounds like it's straight from the NES, and such a sound is asynchronistic with the groove.
  12. i may bw dru k right now, ut your post scared the shit out of ume
  13. oh, is that what that is? there was a lot of clutter. rythm issues, sound issues, it sounds like there's a slight vibrato on all the instruments and it is irritating. there is also a pulsing on everything that sounds really bad. the piano is giving me a serious headache. needs lots of work. NO
  14. I like the groove and the lead. i think that doing terra in this style is a good idea. i just dont think it was executed as creatively as it needed to be. it gets repetitive, it doesnt escalate terribly well, and it just needs more. i'd say work on it more, bring up the intensity in some places. i think this is a cool idea, but NO
  15. i also like what's here, but it really isnt long enough. a song like this could expand with a large variety of subtleties without losing it's minimalist feel, but this is really just a demo of what it could be. lets hear some more. i like this as a start. also, there are some rhythmic issues, may want to play around with your quantizations NO
  16. what's here isnt bad, save some distortion and quantization issues, but it's less than a minute long. lets hear some arrangement and expansion, please. NO
  17. sounds like a rip to me. on top of that, it's short and doesnt really develop. also has a halfassed ending. NO
  18. okay, the intro has far too much reverb. the melody is too dry, and the patches are really bad. the rhythm distortion guitar (?) really plays no rhythm...it's just a sustained noise....oh then a key change....then back. there's rampant clipping, aside from the atrocious distortion guitar. there's really not that much arrangement, the harmony is one or two notes at a time at best. the transitions are sudden and dont work terribly well, especially because the drums stay constant. if you are going to completely change the feel of the song several times, the drums ought to change with the rest of the song. i cant identify what the lead patch is supposed to be. the song has no ending; it just cuts off. you have no idea how much that pisses me off. NO i think this one should have gotten the letter.
  19. hmm...there's very little variation throughout the whole song. the song is five minutes long, so the repetition is very bad. there are a number of direct game samples that really dont work terribly well, and the orchestral stabs are quite akward. this is really just aching for some development. right now, all it has are a bunch of key changes. really not enough. NO
  20. okay...this mix sounds really good in some ways. the arrangement is tight, and strong. really well done. there are four problems. they are big ones. 1. Not enough high end in the mix. there isn't enough treble. this is an easily remediable problem, i expect it to be fixed before i pass this. 2. the transitions between songs aren't smooth. its like <SONGSONGSONG> *STOP*.....<NEWSONGNEWSONG> please be more fluid. 3. there is no ending. i said i was going to stop being lenient about songs without endings. the overall dynamic could use some tweaking as well...you know, climax, resolution, that type of thing. NO
  21. Holy distortion, Batman! this is a loud, busy mix. a bit too loud. there's distortion all over the place. also, the drums are much louder than everythign else. something strikes me as off on the solos. just a bit akward. and the last solo is VERY akward. the problem with this mix is it has one setting: LOUD there are really no dynamic changes to speak of. well...at the end a little bit, but by then, my auditory nerves are already shot to hell. NO
  22. i agree with binnie. it just doesnt bring anything new to the table, and the arrangement could use work. it never really escalates. needs a bit mroe to be an ocremix. NO
  23. this is an okay mix. the sound is interesting, we dont hear it too often, but the arrangement is average at best. it doestn build too much, and the harmonies are sparse and akward. pretty borderline. for me, the ending ruined it. i'm done tolerating bad endings on otherwise decent mixes. put a better ending on it and i will be more conflicted. but now, it's definately a NO
