  1. yeah, this falls to the "original with drums over it" syndrome. i agree with what other folks have said some points to add...is this caribbean or is it techno? having an identity crisis. contrary to popular belief, caribbean and techno are NOT a match made in heaven, and in this case the techno beat sounds way out of place. NO
  2. ari, what where you thinking putting this up as a fallthru?
  3. this mix lacks structure... the drums are great thru the whole mix, but nothing else comes even close. the synths are sparse and ugly sounding. there isnt any measureable amount of depth to the song. i just cant think of any reason to pass this. needs to be completely reorganized. NO
  4. indeed...dave has mentioned to me neumerous times that he's upset with haroon because of his lack of recent mixes. anyway. this mix is the melody played with some goofy syncopation. drums are simple as can be, there is no harmony to speak of, and the bassline makes some questionable changes to the actual progression. NO
  5. OHOK...well...nevertheless. maybe all the fuzz was intentional, but it goes overboard and it detracts from the mix. NO
  6. i get the impression that this is mostly the original with drums. the vocal thing is cool, but it isnt enough to salvage the mix. does someone know how similar this is to the original? other problems: the synths all sound like they're straight from the NES. works sometimes, but you shouldnt rely on NES sounds for your whole mix. it also doesnt develop...maintains the same dynamic level thru the whole thing, and it's too short. NO
  7. this is on the repetitive side. also, the trumpets sound very GM. my main problem with this mix is that it is underdeveloped. it doesnt go anywhere. just repeats the melody a couple of times. needs some more elaboration before i would bother going into the smaller technical details NO
  8. pretty good mix...i dont know if there's enough variation; i havent heard the original. ... seriously tho, this mix does get a little bit repetitive, but it is a very unique interpretation, and it is probably the best schala mix i've heard. audio quality, however, is a different story. it seems like everything is fuzzy. is this just me? am i crazy? i mean, i like this mix a lot and i want it to pass, but right now it's a NO because of the overlying fuzz. can we get this fixed? is it my speakers? am i the only one who hears this?
  9. during the intro i was thinking that this was going to be a decent, if marginal remix. the groove change took me by suprise. i love it. another great feel change around 2:30. i wish it were longer, but this is well arranged and there's great stringwork thru the whole mix. YES
  10. effort went into this, but there are a number of problems. the recording is mediocre. there could have been better mic placement, better mics, whatever the problem was. i cant really tell. the mixing lacks. sometimes the drums are too loud, sometimes they are too quiet. more thought could have been put into panning on the melody. right now, one guitar plays both the melody and the countermelody and it sounds cramped. the arrangement is almost exactly the same as the original. the instrumentation is identical. the second guitar which is theoretically playing harmony is just playing single note riffs. doesnt even bother playing power chords. and the performace is a little bit lacking. the lead guitar...for lack of a better word...slurs a bit on the faster parts of the melody. the second guitar doesnt stay as steady as it should, considering it has a one note part. NO
  11. in that case, there's no reason to waste time. NO OVERRIDE
  12. i shall keep this file close to my heart. i'll rename it "the day we broke WMRE"
  13. havent decided on this mix, but i figured there isnt anything else going on here, so you guys can deal with this fallthrough. i believe my main concern was that i havent heard the original and i dont know how much is changed. anyone know?
  14. i think i'll make a habit of calling in. congradulations.
  15. uh...WTF. dj chrono sent me this PM. From: DJ Crono To: Vigilante Posted: Thu Sep 11, 2003 10:52 pm Subject: DJ Crono Hey Vigilante, Just wanted to let you know that my newest submission (FF7 Hadaka no Aeris) is that whole BEER mix type remix. I thought I'd clear up any misunderstandings so nobody would think it was a serious mix talk to you later. ~DJ Crono NO lets get this out of here. why the hell did he submit it?
  16. this is the original with drums and simple-stupid harmony added. while there are some things done more interestingly in this mix than in other simple techno conversions, ohter things are done worse. the drums are for the most part interesting. However, simple whole note 1-5 string harmony does little to enrich the mix, especially when the harmony often plays wrong or dissonant chords. i am unimpressed by changed notes in the melody and other artistic liberties taken in this mix. for instance, i am not impressed by clever little techno tricks such as repeating two beats of a phrase four times before moving on to the next two beats. NO
  17. in the beginning, there are several instances in which it sounds like the guitar cannot keep up...it gets off beat. The patches seem to be general midi. it is rarely more than drums, guitar and melody. the guitar is just too fuzzy, it detracts from the mix. and it repeats. NO
  18. The sounds are fantastic, moody and interesting, but the mix is pretty lacking...its a melody played twice? it's too short, it doesnt develop at all. use these sounds and create a real mix, make it escalate. NO
  19. Klutz's piano still sounds great. beautifully played in several different feels/time signatures. strong overall dynamic, escalation etc. and enjoyable to listen to. my only concern is that it could have been arranged more thoroughly. more attention could have been paid to flow and transitions. but anyway, YES
  20. i thought about this one for awhile before this post. i really enjoy listening to this mix, but i have concerns that it repeats too much, and doesn't escalate. these concerns are compounded by the fact that it sticks close to the original. i'd love to hear a v 2.0 of this mix, because i think the sounds, esp. the bass are great, and its a cool song. please expand on the theme, etc. this has potential. NO
  21. this mix has a lot going for it. it is very relaxing, the percussion is great, as are the sound effects. the guitar sounds nice in general, if the notes release too soon. the sparse harmony is soothing and pleasant. the mix has a nice minimalist feel. unfortunately there are some issues that i cant look past. the quick release on the melody is an issue; it bothers me. while the minimalist feel is nice, i think the mix ought to build more, considering its length. there seems to be a fair bit of repetition, and not a lot of escalation. sometimes there just isnt enough going on. i am torn. i'll come back to this one. EDIT with some reworking, i think this could be a great mix, but right now it's just too repetitive, and it doesnt go anywhere. NO
  22. *ugh* once again, beatdrop cant do it right the first time, and forces ME to fix HIS ID3 tags. the things i put up with. interesting...hope it's going somewhere... WTF is up with the fill at 1:26? the rythm is wierd-off. nice change at 2:00. i would have liked to hear more escalation, but the song doesnt get too repetitive, and extra points awarded for a unique and decisive, if not entirely musical ending. YES i've been listening to this song a lot...and i have to change my mind. the beat is cool, the synths are interesting, but there just isnt enough going on harmonically in this song. i know it's trance, but i still think there ought to be more depth. it's not your best stuff. NO
