i dont like the use of SSBM voice samples. just doesnt work. choppy. the thumping low string gets on my nerves it is too throbbing. i'm also turned off by the fuzz on the samples, and the general hissing. could use some cleaning up. NO

there are some interesting things going on. the strings are nice, but i agree with DC that the release is too quick. the drums are also interesting, but thhey also get irritating at some points. i also agree that the song doesnt really go anywhere. what's here is nice, but it needs more. NO

pretty basic and beginnerish all around. simple repetitive drums, lacking harmony, simple bass, mediocre sounds. very mediocre. NO

i'm borderline because of the samples, and the fact that it sounds awfully mono, but musically, this mix offers more than many mixes we see. I'll give it a YES with the note that right now this is a good mix. with better samples and sounds, it could be a great mix.

the performance errors are too easy to fix. i cant let them slip by. theres not much escalation; there's more repetition, with different instruments, etc, but the overall dynamic doesnt change. the ending is completely halfassed. this mix isnt finished. NO

i noticed some...harmonic irregularities in the intro. they stuck out and didnt sound good. the bass synth gets boring really quickly. and by "boring," i mean "irritating". there's really not a whole lot going on. pretty basic structure. the harmony is really quite simple, considering it is so akward. NO you want your remix to stick out and offer something different. unfortunately, the most noticeable way this mix sticks out is with its unpleasant harmonies. other than that, it's very average and run of the mill. really not a whole lot being offered here. and there's a lame ending.

woah...there are some lo-fi sounds in the intro...shitty string patch... hmm...i have to agree with anna that the vocals arent recorded or mixed well. it may be the encoding, but i hear fuzz on the vocals and some other instruments. again, like analoq said, this just feels a little bit cheap. NO

I really agree with what everyone has said. it was interesting for maybe a minute or so. but you really need to mix it up in these longer mixes. NO

can we please not use this review thread to attack the judges? if you want to know why this passed and GL's mix did not, ask us. not here. This is really good stuff. i like matt's maridia mix a bit more, but this is destinctly moody and dark. in the spaces which many of you refer to as "dull" there is a subtle expression of desolation, despair, and death. if you dont like minimalist ambience, fine, go listen to techno; there's plenty to choose from. but dont complain about this well-produced piece because it's not busy enough for you.

Hey folks. I worked all day to finish this and get it on the board before I go away next week. It's a remix of Fortune's theme from MGS2. if you dont know the original, you could try p2p, or ask me if i'm around. This mix came quite spontaneously; I layed down the acoustic guitar track one night when i was playing in my room. i did all the other recording this week. I'm putting the mix on the board instead of sending it to djp because as a result of the spontoneity of the recording, the mix kind of meanders...i didnt do it with OCR in mind, so i wasnt sure if it was right for OCR. but it came out pretty well, so here it is. as you will hear, it's about 90% acoustic. had a good time with this one. hope you like it. -Jesse Thanks to binnie for hosting. the rythm guitar is recorded very poorly. dont know if it's the amp or mic or what. the lead is too quiet. there is clipping. nice idea, poorly executed. NO

i have nothing new to say. this is the way to do techno without it being overly simple or boring. way to go. YES

very sweet. one of the better piano mixes i've heard. very appealing harmonic interpretation. i wish it were longer, but it's very enjoyable. heres my first YES of the day. congratulations.

for the second time today, i really like what's here, but this track isnt done. nice sounds, but it doesnt escalate. there are some shifts in the back, to strings, to drums, but they dont layer, they just change. make it longer and have the instruments play at the same time. this could be a decent track NO

Solid interesting stuff. I think dan pretty much summed up my thoughts on the song. ........... anyway, nice dynamic variation, nice groove, sounds fresh. could be longer, but if it were, it would risk being repetitive. so anyway. YES

i feel conflicted about this mix. i really like what's here so far, but i can think of a million ways the mixer could have made it escalate. so for now i'll give it a NO because it doesnt go anywhere, and i'll hope the mixer decides to keep working on it.

I dislike ska. fortunately for me, this isnt ska. there is no escalation, it has one setting: loud. its one minute long. please add more, use dynamics. NO

first off i think the drums are too loud. i'm having trouble hearing anything else clearly. the percussion does some interesting things, great fills. it just seems to me like all i can hear is the damned 2 and 4 hi-hat. i really like the arrangement and sequencing. the bad samples dont bother me, but the mastering does. i want to hear the hi-hat down, and everything else up. i really want a better version of this mix, mastering-wise. for now, NO

there's clipping on the drums at some points. the lead clips a whole lot. allright folks. there's nothing wrong with techno, but you MUST offer something more than simply the original over a beat. this mix does not offer anything particularly unique or interesting. and the ending is half-assed. NO

i enjoyed the mix for the most part, but i REALLY want it to be longer. please. make it longer, take more liberties, and be CAREFUL with the clipping. NO Resubmit, please.

meh.... its not bad... it's quite repetitive. doesnt escalate enough, and it goes on too long. all the instruments sound awfully tinny to me. to me, this is an allright arrangement that is drawn out for too long, and sounds awfully tinny. borderline, but NO

I agree completely with what Israfel said. except i think all these complains are clearly worthy of a NO and the ending barely qualifies as half-assed.

exactly what Dan said. much of this mix is a naked melody. and a wobbly lead that gets really irritating. on the rare occasions where there is some semblance of harmony, (a half-note bassline, most often) the harmony is butchered. there's really just not much here, and what's here is just...wrong. NO I think this should have gotten the letter.
