  1. I made a lot of headway tonight, and I'm sure I'll be able to flesh it out and polish it up by Saturday. And I was correct in thinking good friends, a bad movie, and lots of red wine would help my creativity!
  2. uhhhhh.... I haven't really started yet. I have the two sources' midis in my DAW, but so far I don't have any material that I like. I'm hoping after tonight (which consists of beers and watching a terrible movie with my friends from home through Google Hangouts) I'll be in a better mood to compose. How's yours coming, Amph?
  3. Yea I'd prefer to go up against someone who I know will submit something, because pulling an all-nighter and busting ass to turn something in when your opponent doesn't submit something is so anticlimactic. Plus, Marble Garden > Metropolis for me to work with.
  4. Awesome, glad you liked it! His involvement was actually confirmed a few years ago: http://kotaku.com/5418198/yes-michael-jackson-did-work-on-sonic-the-hedgehog-3
  5. The sheet says Silph Co. and Saffron City for Sabrina, so does that mean I use both? I'm a bit confused since the city theme is used in multiple locations. But since Sabrina is available (and Silph Co. is an awesome source), I'll go with her. I'll probably need some assistance on lyrics at some point too.
  6. I'll put a tentative claim on Lorelei (but if Sabrina's available I can take her instead). I haven't listened to the sources in a while so I might change my mind. What sources would I use if I did choose an E4 member? Don't they all share the same music? Oh and anyone who wants me to be their vocalist, just let me know, I'm up for pretty much anything!
  7. Yea but I kinda doubt my computer can handle that, since it stutters during normal usage. Plus it's a lot easier doing Melodyne edits in a separate progam because you can use the output in more places than just where you recorded it in to. I'm perfectly fine doing things the way I do. I also still use pattern blocks in FL, which everyone tells me is way less efficient than clips, but it's the way I do things and I feel it would take too long for my taste to adapt to something different. And hey, isn't it the output that counts?
  8. I think I tried that with no success a few years ago. I'm fine with the way I do things.
  9. How is it bad with audio? I mean, maybe if you record into it. Currently my super-streamlined workflow (at least for my own samples) is: 1) Record into Audacity while FL is looping the backing music, do 1-3 takes in a row, and render them out. 2) Import samples into Goldwave, cut out the empty parts before/after the sample and split the samples apart if there's more than 1. 3) Open new instance of FL, import recorded audio (and sometimes the backing audio), open Melodyne and fix all the timing/pitch errors, then export this. 4) Then FINALLY import into the actual project file, slap some Maximus on it (I finally learned how to use it!) and mess with the effects.
  10. He's one of my best friends from college, and he's been teaching himself guitar for the past few years. I figured I'd give him some more incentive to practice, and throughout this compo I've discovered that I really love working with live samples when remixing. I'm sure he'll make more appearances in my future remixes.
  11. I sacrificed my sleep schedule for this extremely anticlimactic win. The exchange rate for these deals is really unbalanced....
  12. Welp. I stayed up all night, ended up making massive changes to my arrangement a couple hours ago, and wrote in a genre and key that I never write in. BUT I think that my entry is solid and Mr. Nuts will finally have some competition in this competition. Now it is time for many sleeps.
  13. I think I have a long night ahead of me. I really like the first two sections of material that I have, and I like the 3rd section but it doesn't really fit as well with the other two. Plus I have a ton of samples to edit and work into the mix. Yayyyyy
  14. No..... I'm just a big troll and wanted to see how many people I could trick. Sorry guys, I'm gonna bring it (like always). Seriously I will submit something I promise. And it was a legitimate what-if question.
  15. I've got a few good ideas so far, which is great since the last two rounds I didn't get good ideas until Wednesday or Thursday! It really helps not having to worry about writing lyrics.
  16. My first system ever was a Game Gear, so I always try to represent my 8bit Sega roots in the compos. Half my games were Sonic games!
  17. My favorite thing about this round is that both Nuts and I picked from Game Gear/Master System games, so each song only has 3 separate midi tracks. I love how the 8bit generation had such simple-yet-intricate music.
  18. I think I'm done writing lyrics for this compo, it eats up far too much of my time. I already have some ideas for ambient vocals though, like in my Sonic CD track.
  19. I was planning on voting today but I left my headphones at home. I'll try to vote tonight! And even though I can't vote for everyone, I think we all did fantastically and it was definitely one of my favorite rounds to listen to!
