How time flies. >_> Either way, I'm back with...well, more attempts at Mega Man Legends remixes. Getting to the point, obvious WiP is obvious. Bruno is a fairly high energy track in-game, and I wanted to explore...well, something of the opposite. Couple of notes about what I have, I'm aware that the drums are repetitive. They're more like placeholders for the time being until I feel like pouring more work in to them. I plan to integrate some solos, though I'm not quite sure where. Originally, I was intending to have the main melody play, then lead into a solo section with that. But for time's sake, I went ahead and moved on to the next section, just to get out the general idea and feel for what I'm attempting. I do realize that the SoundCloud account is Sh0rtCircuit, and I assure you that it's me. Dash is a fairly old tag that I rarely every go by these days (I just didn't feel like waiting on being authorized as a legit member with the Sh0rtCircuit tag).

  3. What do you think? Totally OCRemix material. On a serious note, this is oooooold. Probably my 4th or 5th remix ever, though there are some things I like about this so I may end up doing a re-remix or something.
  4. @Rozo/Yoozer: Both of you essentially said the same thing, so I'll take the advice and try it out. It's slightly difficult when you've been doing one thing and want to switch to something else. In this case, I mainly have been working in the Orchestra composition department for a game project. A friend of mine asked me to do a Trance mix of the Doctor Who theme, so at the very least, I would want it to be something that lots of people would be able to enjoy, not just the one. Also Rozo, 7/8 dance track? I've GOT the hear this... @Skrypnyk: That sounds easier said than done, and the results would not necessarily be amazing... lol.

My first question was weird to me too...but I figured I might get some kind of answer for it. ^^; I have intermediate knowledge of Music Theory (been dealing with music since I was 11...I'm 23) and I have a Guitar-fashioned MIDI Controller. Nothing else outside of that, besides the PC and desktop speakers. Massive is sitting because I had to get my system clean for a new (old) PC that I finally got put together...I've been lazy and haven't got it on here yet. As for your method of studying...I won't deny that it sounds like a good idea. But I've listened to plenty of music from the main and sub genres...but we'll stick to Trance/Techno for now. It's not that I don't understand them, as it were. It's more of the less the fact that I don't understand how something that sounds nearly like everything is a good formula. Perhaps the problem is just on me and how I try to avoid using the "go-to" method to have something sound good to the masses. Even so, I've tried my hand at trance and techno before, but could never quite grasp how to make it..."stick." I'll try your study method and see how it turns out.
  6. First off, sorry about the thread title. I wasn't exactly sure what to title this. Alright, I want to get more into creating some electronic compositions (along the lines of Trance, Techno, etc). My first question for you guys is what do you find to be the most successful quality about any particular electronic genre? Are you more interested in how the track is progressed? Or maybe you're more into how the leads play out? Perhaps you just like hearing something that's well organized and fits together? My second question is, from a technical standpoint, what are some things someone would need (maybe not exactly need, but definitely would want) to master, or at least be decently good at, in order to produce a good, well-rounded electronic track? For instance, I've seen some things about side-chaining compression, yet I've no idea what it's true purpose is, other than it lets the kick drum and bass have breathing room so they're not competing for space. Things similar to that and the like. Of course, I realize I could do my own research...but quite honestly, I'd like to figure out WHAT I need to be researching before going off and finding out HOW to implement those things into a track. I use FLStudio 10 at this point (and if a Mod happens across this and feels it should be moved to the FL sub-forum, then please do so). In terms of Synth stuff...I have whatever 10 came with, plus Viral Outbreak. I have Massive somewhere on my External HDD, but that about sums up what I have to work with at this point. Regardless, any help/direction would be amazingly awesome...and I'll be sure to give out whole-hearted love-hugs of joygasms. ...No homo.
  7. First off, thanks for the reply! The beginning does sound midi-ish. I've realized that a while ago, so I definitely plan on doing something different with the intro to make it feel better...with jelly. I had also started writing a new section for the actual Geetz part of the remix, just to add some length so it didn't feel so short. Not sure if I'm going to leave it in, but we'll see.

  10. I've noticed that the scroll wheel on my mouse likes to mess with that particular slider, among other things in FL.
  11. lol No one wanted this? The 1250AD stage music is awesome...and would fit well in the METAL genre. I'll try my hand at this once I have my Mega Man Legends 2 remix finished.

  13. ...Why do I feel like I'm watching so random 90's porn when I listen to this? Anyways, no Vocals. They could work for this...but a Sax is much more sexy. I like the bass frequencies as well, deep but tame.
  14. Just because I'm a stickler about it...I'd prefer not to have to download your WIPs in order to listen to them. Tindeck.com is pretty awesome for hosting tracks and streaming them online. Also, having all your updates in your first post helps. I just downloaded the version from your first post, only to find that there have been several updates since then. x.x Anyways, your latest update starts off fairly well. I think I would prefer the kick-drum to thump a little lower in bass frequencies though. Your piano...might need some slight humanization. I've gotten slapped in the face by the Judges due to things sounding robotic. Also, a little EQ on your piano to make it sound a little brighter, will help the soundscape. Some variation in the last run of things would be amazing for this as well. I will already tell you that the Judges will ask for the same thing and give you a re-submit. So be pre-emptive!
  15. First off, let me say that I'm not familiar with the source. Period. Giving this a listen though, I love the feel with the combination of instruments you used. It just screams "Adventure" to me. However, my biggest complaint about this is, in fact, the percussion. I just don't feel like they capture the same energy as everything else. They play fast (generally), but...I think that's why it feels so off to me. Other than that, this is great.

  17. ---Update#2 - v3--- Well, I've got the HQ Guitars in place, though I'll probably end up going back and rendering them differently. There's some noticeable things about them I don't like and need to get fixed. Balanced some volume issues as well, but I still think the track is kinda loud, so I'll be working more on that. Um...that's basically it for now. Give it a listen. Post your thoughts. Do stuff. Enjoy. ---UPDATE#1 - v2--- Finished writing out the rest of the remix. Probably will go back over and add some variations to existing leads 'n what not. After that, all that will be left to do is render this with HQ sounds. Let me know what you guys think. -------------------------------------------------- Alright, with all the MML stuff going on right now, I figured it was appropriate to attempt another Legends remix. So, I decided to remix Geetz Battle them, with the Mother Zone as an intro. ---The Remix v1--- ---Source Tunes--- The Mother Zone - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyoM9oR33Js Geetz's Battle Theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVKUWMW3pP8 I decided to stick with the metal-esque feel that Geetz's Battle theme used...at least with the drums. But instead of having a hint of Metal, I went with full-blown metal. First off, I apologize about the sound quality. It's a hassle loading up all sorts of HQ VSTs to get an idea down, so I just went with soundfonts for quickness. Secondly, there is currently no "bridge" section connecting the two sources. The tempo kicks up after the Mother Zone source and 6 hi-hat hits mark the new temp. After that, I jump right into the "Verse" of the composition. And lastly, the second portion has little lead parts for the moment. I was more or less focused on getting a solid foundation and progression, so leads will surely come in later WIP Versions. Give it a listen and let me know what you think. Any tips for improvement are extremely helpful, especially at this point in the composing process. And as always, enjoy.

  19. But messing with the Velocities of individual notes in the step sequencer, of course! And yeah, I'm fairly positive you can do that in the demo version.
  20. Something I wrote today. It's intended use is for a Development Video of my teams fan-project, ASH. I've mentioned this project before while ago, when I posted the game's Water Theme. Regardless, this weeks video is dealing with combating Foo Roo's. Can't say there was any real inspiration behind the composition other than just writing to write. I think it has some good elements from Electronic genre's (mostly just the bass, really). But a good bit of the tracks relies heavily on Rock, especially in the drums, and guitar later in the track. Decently long track, so please give it a listen and let me know what your thoughts are.   21. This is a fan-game of sorts, based in the Mega Man Legends universe (set in the past, around the time the Master System was just starting to thrive). This game has been in the making for 3 years now, mostly due to getting the Engine just right. Although, I don't know much about the game itself...I just write the music for it.
