  1. LOL Everyone I've let listen to this has said it has Terminator. The reference was by accident, but felt like it fits with what I was wanting anyways. EQ is something I'm not particularly good at. The plugin that I use identifies what frequencies a certain instrument plays at and from there, I can adjust as needed...or what I think is needed. But, so long as the EQ is fine in the second version, then I'll leave it the way it is. Either way, I've listened to the track you referenced and I understand what you're saying. Although, I'm just really starting off with bettering myself, so something like that track kind of blows me away almost. lol Obviously, there are a number of things that Kyd does better than me, but I guess that's mostly apparent. Though I must say, it doesn't seem like he uses the same chordal progression. At about the highlight of the track, I definitely hear a change...then after, it goes back to the chordal progression we were first introduced to. Though, I could just be crazy... I'll see what I can do to better improve the composition of this track so that it doesn't have the listener lose interest. Thanks for your feedback, it was extremely helpful. :3 lol Also, the track is meant for a "Furnace" type ruin. I don't think I capture the "heat" of the place very well, but I've been told otherwise. In addition, this is one of the ending ruins for the game which should explain the mood I gave this track.
  2. Yeah, I really like this. The build up was nice, but I'm not so sure the follow up was as great. It could've been more "grand" and awesome. But you said you'll be working on the melody, so I'll be looking for that on your next update. Um...apart from that, the track as a whole is really loud. So maybe turn the master volume down a notch or two...probably by like 10-15%.
  3. Alright, I think some of you know that I've been doing work for a game project (which as always, I'm not at liberty to talk about). Either way, I have a Ruin Theme here that I'd love some feedback on. I have two different versions. One that has no EQ settings touched, and one that does. Feedback-wise, what I'm looking for is if the applied EQ settings are good...and if not, how I can improve them for each individual instrument. And two...is the composition good and if not, what suggestions do you have to improve the composition. Overall, I just hope you guys can enjoy what I've created, even though it's a WIP. Happy listening guys. :3 Without applied EQs With applied EQs
  4. lol Technically, the game is suppose to be kept under-wraps. I'm not even allowed to post music work for it...but I do anyways, because I like outside opinions and ideas. Really, the project leader knows close to nothing about music. Only if it sounds good to him, or if it doesn't. xD I WILL say that it's Mega Man related. >____________>
  5. I think it's nice...but I'd like to hear some more variation with the main melody. Also, a nice bassline wouldn't hurt the feel you've got going. Oh...and it's too short for OCR standards. Expand expand expand!
  6. Thanks! I'll definitely re-write the wind parts, because you're completely right about them. And I don't wanna be massacred by my musicians. xD
  7. .____________________________________________________. I think I just jizzed my pants. This is extremely FUCKING epic. And it's making me miss my guitar so badly. T.T I have nothing else to say. Well done sir...well done.
  8. Congrats dude. Though I had no doubts that this wouldn't pass the board. It's just an amazing remix. Now you need to get "Morning Sun" to the judges.
  9. Most important thing I have to say. Whatever you do, keep the orchestra/synth combination. While the synths are meh, I believe this could sound much much better with more sophisticated sounding synths. So far though, both replies before me are right about the arrangement being predictable. I also agree with Gario about the string stabs. Use sparingly and their effect will be that much sweeter. Overall though, it's very good in my opinion. Just work on some dynamics with the orchestra stuff and make 'em feel a little more "human," and you'll be well on your way to having an awesome remix. Btw...I've no idea what the source sounds like. xDDD
  10. The only thing that I would do different is add in Metal-influenced drum work. Just seems like it'd fit the frantic nature of this piece. Otherwise, I'm really enjoying what you have here. I love how the very beginning is soft and surreal...and then BAM! It's great. xD Keep it up man, I'll be following this.
  11. Source - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4-cb9sxhaA So far, this is just a cover, but I'd love to try and expand on what I've done with this piece of fine music. You already get a sense of feeling "love," but I want to flesh that out some more and really make that feeling shine. Regardless, what I've presented to you is the basis for how the rest of the composition will be. Orchestrated awesomeness. If you hear any issues with what I currently have, please let me know so that I can correct said issues. I just made this earlier today and then called it quits for the day. I guess staying up all night had something to do with that. ^^; I'll try and have an update within the week. Enjoy.
  12. Only thing I can offer...is just try out new sections. If you feel like something could work, expand on it. A lot of it is really trial and error. But really, what you have there isn't all that bad, even with the "repeatitive" bass. ...lol Sorry, this probably wasn't very helpful. xD
  13. Harry Gregson-Williams? Never heard of him, but I suppose I could track down some of his stuff. Thanks for the comment.
  14. Something I started working on last night. It's for a game (that's taking FOREVER to be made). The game is of the Action/Adventure genre...not sure if that'll help you hear this any better, but oh well. xD I dunno, I guess I've kinda hit a bit of a wall as to how to expand on this theme. I suppose I'll give it another shot later on tonight when I'm feeling music-y. But if you have any ideas, let me know. Also, I really wanna know if this fits the theme it was meant for. And if not, how can I improve this to make it fit the theme? Criticize to your hearts content people, something is better than nothing. ------------------------------------- Just worked on this for a few hours this morning. Right now, it's good as a looping track, but I intend on expanding this some more. This track has nothing to do with the game from above...but I figured it'd be stupid to make another thread. Thoughts? Comments? Critique? Let 'em rip!
  15. Ah...then maybe I'm just not that familiar with the source. *Is shot*
  16. This makes me jealous...I want fantastic sounding instruments like those to use. D: Either way, I'm not familiar with the source...but who cares, this is a very fantastic remix and as such...I have no critique for it. ._. Honestly though, what do you use for your orchestra sounds?
  17. ...I open this bad boy in a new tab and immediately crack up. xDDD This is auto-win. If I could give you a cookie, I would. Great remix.
  18. There's no active link for this...or else I'd put my two cents in. xD
  19. The track as a whole is solid, though I think with the lack of source, it wouldn't really qualify to pass OC standards...maybe? lol I dunno. The drums for the third part of the track, are lacking. Not really in content, but I feel like they're MIDI sounding more than anything. Maybe add some EQ to the kick drum so that it's more noticeable? Another thing would be the guitar, but I can understand having limited stuff to use. If you can have the guitar sound more guitar-like and less MIDI like, it would be ideal. But if not, it's not THAT big a deal. I also think your transitions could've been a tab better, like the intro going into the next part. You could give the drums more "solo" time to keep the interest during the transition. Who knows, doing that might open more doors for you composition-wise. It does for me some times. The second transition isn't as bad, but it IS a little plain. lol Sorry, I'm nit-picking... Um, that's about all I can think of...other than the ending. I don't really care for it...I'd rather have it as one big blow-out, but that's just personal preference. Either way, as I said before, you have a solid remix here...but you probably wanna have more source in it. Having lots of original stuff isn't bad, but if people don't know what they're listening to, or don't realize it's a remix...then that kind of defeats the purpose. xD
  20. Sweet, thank you. I actually agree with the beat being repeatitive, so I'll see what I can do with that. I may also spice up the background progression as well, just to keep it...spicey? lol Thanks for the feedback man. It's extremely helpful. ^^
  21. lol Thanks Chern, I'm glad you like it. I actually have the finished track up right now. I guess I shouldn't say it's finished, because there's always a possibility of going back and changing or adding new parts. But either way, there's at least a new version up for your listening pleasure.
  22. lol I dunno what title to give this for now. But yeah...I got the idea to do this after hearing a Final Destination "remix." I put it quotation because all it was, was FD's music with a phat beat with it and a little synth lead. Obviously, I expanded on that idea and thus have created what you hear. It isn't finished, but that is definitely going to change. I already know what I'm going to do next with this, but I just wanted opinions on the early version. I'm really excited about this one. So any critique you guys have, please...lay it on me. Oh...and turn ya speakers up, cause this puppy's got some BASS. Happy listening guys. ---------------------------- Update #2 lol I worked a little fast with this. Basically...just finished out the rest of the track with what I wanted to do. I think there's a little distortion here and there...so I'll work on smoothing out those edges. Also...this is meant to loop. ----------------------------- Update #3 Alright...added a new beat for the second portion of the remix. Balanced out the bass frequencies so it doesn't cause distortion from being a little over-powering...and, knocked down the "Trinkle Trance" (custom arp'd synth I made) an octave. Opinions, thoughts, critique...all of it's welcome. ^^
  23. http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/332714 I know you guys don't like Newgrounds, but I'm a bit lazy to upload at Tindeck atm. Anyways, I'd like to hear some opinions/critique on my created sounds. I know they're a bit basic, but I'm trying. I used Sytrus as my synth creator. As for the actual composition...I dunno, didn't really have a direction. But it ended up sounding like something you'd hear in Pocket Tanks or something. Personally, I think it sounds like something that would go with a puzzle game of some sort. Either way, I wasn't trying to make something that's "in your face." Just something that's easy to listen to. Like the Homebrew Channel song on the Wii. Regardless, let me know what you guys think about the synths, how I could possibly improve them and if the track fits the "easy listening" feel. Oh! The track is meant to loop...just figured I'd add that.
